Rockhounding Missouri finding fossil stromatolite agates stromagates

Күн бұрынIn this video I join my friend Scott ebofarms68@yahoo.com to search for cool rocks in Washington county Missouri. This time we found cool agate replaced stromatolite fossils. At the end of the video we’ll cut a few at Jeff’s house @huntingrocks. Come along!

Yeah there’s enough interesting stuff here I’ll probably be back. Who knows maybe I’ll even find something similar to Bear Canyon 😂 I can dream

I knew I liked that HuntingRocks fellow for a reason, bacon indeed! LOL. Super cool material Dustin Finds Rocks, Stromatolites have a lot of variation of both shape and color, and it looks like your spot had a lot that to show. You found amazing stuff, thank you for sharing it with us.

Yep I reckon 😆 does look like bekken! There’s some cool fossils around this area also. It’s on the list. I need some more books on the geology of this area. There’s so much weird stuff.

The black rocks with broken chert is called breccia.

The Roubidoux would be exposed on the highest areas.the deeper areas are gasconade to eminence formations most likely.

The rope chert is found in the bottom of the gasconade. I have a huge boulder that has that base and ophilita gastropods above it. I'll send that video to you. I found it in dent county Missouri.

@@dustinfindsrocks I think it forms above the sandstone of Gunter or whatever that separated the Cambrian/Ordovician boundary.

Have you guys ran into any of the gasconade formation? There's some exposures in that region.

Some of this might actually be Gasconade I’m not sure. I’m going to try looking around Salem for fossils sometime

@@dustinfindsrocks you should check out the stromatolite bedding at huzzah ponds if you do. The pond bank has small gastropods as well.

I think you’re good surface collecting in creeks they just don’t want you scooping up gravel for roads and such. 🤷🏻♂️ hopefully it’s not an issue. I can’t imagine what possible harm this is doing

Hey Dustin, when you clean these with iron out, do you use the liquid or the powder? If you use liquid, do you dilute it?

I use the powder haven’t tried the liquid

You should use the powder in weak dilution to clean. If you want to polish the druzy quartz you should use no more than a cup per gallon and change the mixture every 4 days roughly. I'd do it for at least two cycles, maybe 4. It really brings out the luster when you get all the mineral stains out and the chemical reactions will realign surface molecules on the druzy giving it a much better "polished" appearance. But it takes a few weeks to achieve this.
