Tivdio has done an amazing job building a quality and affordable receiver.
FM reception is excellent, along with AM being very good! Shortwave in a pinch.
Features that I liked best about this radio:
FM reception. Not a fan of the stepped tuning, but this radio does it right!
AM reception. The stepped tuning was not as noticeable which made for a pleasant stroll through the band.
Build quality, I'm impressed.
19" antenna, flip out stand, LED power indicator, and hinged battery compartment round out my favorite items.

Best radio i've ever seen under 20 bucks. În fact, this radio worth much more money for what it offers. Top notch build quality, great tuning, amazing sound and decent battery life. Love that ”lock-on" feature on FM stations. Strange enough that DSP is not mentioned on the box or the radio itself.

V-117 is Very suitable for the elderly, easy to operate, loud volume, sensitive signal reception, powered by two-cell dry battery, thank you for your sharing :)

Just got mine today. Daytime AM was impressive, but when I tried it with the Tecsun AB-200 loop antenna It totally blew me away. I'll be trying night reception later. Wow!! Everyone should buy this!

This one looks like the perfect shape, that if one were to make a red leather case for it, you could replicate the famous radio from Kiki's delivery service. The tuning knob, frequency display, and speaker are all in the right location.

I got this late last year. I think it’s better than the TR605. I even used my wind-up shortwave antenna with this in the evening and picked up some things.

Wow! Audio sounds much better than other radios that size. It’s a shame the Tecsun pl 380 doesn’t have that speaker technology. This radio is smaller than the 380 And sounds better!! Right now as I’m writing, The Tivdio V 117 is going for about 12.15 on amazon. Update! Just ordered one, I couldn’t pass up the deal. I didn’t want to have any regrets in not buying it. Glad! I got it. Also I like the fact it uses double aa batteries, more reliable easier to purchase than those bl5c. Cell batteries. 73s. Happy listening,

Cool! let me know when you get it! , its a fantastic radio that does step tuning correctly. The great audio adds the cherry on top. Watch the prices on most of the Chinese radios, they moved them up recently. They should fall back down after their New Year celebration.

got the Retkess one for 7 bucks... definetly worth more then that price. The only real complaint if you could even call it that is the shortwave coverage feels more like an afterthought then primary function given that they chose to give it a chunk of frequencies that doesn't cover some of the important bands, would have been awesome and worth 30-45 dollars if they had split shortwave into a few bands and covered a greater portion of the shortwave spectrum.

This radio looks identical to the Retekess v117. I wonder who really makes these. Judging from this video and the Radiogeek video which features a radio with a Retekess badge, the build quality is good. Much smaller than I expected and very impressive.

Hey There, Got mine yesterday, I would say it descent am / fm radio, Sound is good for the size, I prefer analog tuning on the am band, Don’t like the way the Dsp handles the weaker signals on the am band, But over all for $12 it alright. 73s Happy listening...

Actually, I was too quick to judge this radio on Sw, I’ve been testing some more on shortwave Using a. Clip on Antenna, Solar activity is up, Getting good propagation now, Listening to China radio international on 9570 and Wrmi 9455Right now, The tvidio v117 gets The job done👍

Hi, Does that vented port on the back of the radio Add some punch (bass) to the audio quality?

if anything it might make the tone brighter. Most likely there to balance the temperature of the air, so your dial doesn't fog up

Hi Todderbert, my old pocket radio almost broke and I need your kind and respected opinion. I'm searching the best portable radio in FM reception and tuning, because here in Italy FM is the most used band. The Sangean SR-35 amazed me for sound quality, but the actual price seems too expensive to me! What do you think of the V-117? Can it compete SR-35 in finding and tuning stations, even the weakest ones? Also the «rectangle» form factor and the kickstand are interesting, because I mostly use the radio at my home, placing it on the table, the night stand, on the radiators and so on... I don't care too much of AM and SW, but if I would, the Tecsun R-909 seems a little intriguing. But it isn't the best in FM (that is my priority), am I right? What about radios with digital search and display like the V-115, are they better at tuning and receiving signal than analogic ones?

One to check out is the HanRongDa HRD-1032 . A bargain of a radio and has excellent selectivity on all the bands.

I was wondering what that little flap on the back was for. Seems a bit small for a stand though but what else could it be?

I have some doubt about the analog DSP tuning with short and small scale like that, is it easy or difficult to tune with tight scale like that? Is there any skipped station if we move the dial too fast?

the dial is not super accurate, and yes if you go too fast you may skip a station. DSPs can be tricky. I have had some where I needed to tune past the station then backwards to pick it up.

DSP analog is all the rage with the cheaper chinese radios...were even seeing this on the bigger Sonys...506, 19, ect. Panasonic's 2400D also. My little NIA radio is a great example of this tech done well...I like it even better then my Sangean SR-35.

Yes, but don't use rechargeable Li-Ion batteries. The protection circuitry wipes out the AM reception.

todderbert, how does the V117 compare to the V115? Analog v. Digital in other words, for someone who wants to carry the device around in their daily life and use headphones?

The AM and SW is better on this radio, but the V115 has a record capability along with a good MP3 player, and solid audio. FM is good, while AM locals sound nice. Plus you get a rechargeable battery with the v115. The V117 actually is a DSP radio, just less electronics.

@@supersamsquared8055 I would pick the V115 over the V117 for an overall use radio. Just don't expect excellent reception on Shortwave, though the medium wave band may surprise you.

They are suppose to be similar but the TR-605 sounds much better to me.

Any idea if the headphone out is stereo and decent sound quality?

No Stereo, Mono both ears. Decent sound quality, with moderate bass and strong mids. A bit of low level hiss noticeable at lower volumes. Overall a good experience with headphone listening on all the bands.

Thanks for the info. Its actually really hard to find a budget pocket radio that does well for stereo FM walking around when the signal strength changes as you walk around things/buildings. You'd figure its possible since cars do it flawlessly. The cars from the 2000's and older had telescoping antennas and I never remembered them failing to give me solid FM stereo for my local stations. You'd figure the length of the headphone wires are close to that of the old antennas seen on cars before they where integrated into the windshield and other places. This could be a good video topic, whats the best radio for walking that doesn't fade or lose lock easily!

Good question. I can't answer that because of my location, but I do know that car antennas work well because of the metal back plane. Also the windshield antennas suffered from reception problems. I remember this from old cars I owned. I think I had a Buick or Olds with one of those antennas and it was a pain. My smaller Sangean DT-180 kzfaq.info/get/bejne/rbKepqaoldmqgY0.html works better then my CCPocket on FM Stereo while walking. I would say that has to be one of the best FM stereo portables for walking. Also my Sangean DT-200X kzfaq.info/get/bejne/rbRdh5tol8ree6c.html and DT-400W kzfaq.info/get/bejne/gZyZjdmlzZ3Me3k.html do well.

Thanks for that info. I'll check out these videos when I got some time. Maybe I might have to spring for the DT-180 at some point to try. I ordered the HRD-104 as a cheap option to add to my radio collection so I'll try it first for a while.

if your in the US unless you are in very good location (likely out doors) you won't be picking up the BBC via shortwave these days, you have a better chance to find it in part on a local public broadcast or if you have an hd reciver you can often find it on one of the public stations extra channels. Alternatively if you have an internet radio you can find the bbc stations on there.
