The Rockler Dust Right Mobile Dust Collector has a 1-micron canister filter and casters to allow the user to maneuver the dust collector around the woodworking shop. When I first saw the product announcement, I was curious to see how the new Rockler Dust Right® model would perform in my shop.
I should note I had to ream out the hole in the filter agitator handle. Out of the box, I could not get it to fit onto the shaft on the top of the filter. I did not want to force the handle on to the shaft by whacking it with a hammer or otherwise forcing it to fit. The aluminum handle made for an easy reaming process. I think it should not be necessary to have to make such a modification to the handle of a new piece of equipment.
Modifications Made To Improve Efficiency
When I put it together for the first time and started to use the dust collector, I did not like the way that the expandable dust collector hose was oriented. I purchased a Rockler Dust Right® Quick Connector 4" Elbow fitting and installed this fitting onto the flange of the fan housing. Then I mated up the hose to the elbow. This fitting now allows the hose to swivel from side to side and miss putting the dust collector hose into the basket altogether.
Run Down on the Dust Collector
Like all of this type of dust collector, the Dust Right ® 750 CFM mobile dust collector does not have any controls except for the On-Off switch. This switch is next to the motor on the top of the fan housing. It is easy to find and to use.
The unit comes with a 10-foot long cord, and that is sufficiently long enough to give the collector the range, with the hose, to reach any part of my shop. I am glad that Rockler put on a long cord. Rockler made its front handle so the user can wrap the power cord around it and secure the end of the cord in a clip.
The spring clamp does a great job of holding the sawdust bag in place, and I noticed no telltale signs of sawdust leaking from under the machine. Removing and replacing the bag is simple and easy to do. I did have a learning curve the first time I tried to install the bag during assembly. Now there is no mystery to that process.
Testing the Rockler Dust Right Dust Collector with Tools
The first machine I tested with the Rockler Dust Right Dust Collector with my19-39 SureMax belt sander. This belt sander is capable of generating vast amounts of dust. The increase of cfm with the Dust Right® was immediately noticeable. The new Dust Right ® collector picked up virtually all of the dust generated by the sander. None of the sawdust I was used to seeing travel down the feed belt was present. Very impressive.
The next tool I tried was my table saw. The table saw exhaust port is 2 ½" in diameter. As a result, I needed an adapter to go from 2 ½" to a 4" diameter hose. The Rockler Dust Right ® 2 ½" to 4" Mountable Dust Coupler was what I needed. With this connection, the Dust Right ® 750 CFM Dust Collector performed quite well. While I noticed a minor amount of dust under the saw, the residual amount was far less than what I experienced when using a shop vacuum. Again, I was impressed.
Finally, the last test in my shop was using the Dust Right ® to clean up the rest of the shop floor and tools. I purchased a Dust Right ® Bench Nozzle and used this attachment to pick up the dust in the balance of the shop. The accessory is well made and has a stiff brush at the pickup end of the nozzle. I had an easy time cleaning up the floor dust and debris. It made quick work of the shop cleaning. I was surprised to see the sawdust that was inches away from the nozzle leaping into the air stream. This Rockler 750 CFM mobile dust collector has an impressive amount of air volume.
Would I Recommend The Rockler Dust Right Dust Collector?
I liked the Rockler Dust Right Dust Collector and decided to give it a permanent home in my shop. Appropriately, it is now in charge of the table saw, SureMax belt sander, jointer, and router table (soon). Besides minimizing the detrimental effects of airborne contaminants, it was easy to set up, use, and change the replacement bag.
I think Rockler has a real winner in this tool. As a result, anyone who purchases this dust collector will significantly benefit from the large variety of Rockler accessories. That is a winning combination.

I'll be darned. I commented on one of your other videos about the 750cfm Delta dust collector as a shop-vac device. Then here you are on this Rockler machine with a resounding "Hell yeah!" I like that flapper feature to knock the dust out of the air filter, and those locking bands.

This looks great, I set up shop on site, that looks like it’s in need of bigger castors to do that but it would still fit on a big wheeled hand truck. This looks like it would work on my thickness planer I use quite a bit and the table saw.

That 90 degree elbow on the collector should be standard on all of these dust collectors. I have a JET and after seeing this, I think I may have to look into doing something like that too.

Rob, hope that you are doing well and that you and your family are staying safe. So I am glad you made this because I trust you guys. I bought this dust collector and also bought a super dust deputy to run with it. I could be losing my mind but it seems like the suction is not very impressive at all, it almost seems like my rigid shop vac has more suction. I am wondering if you lose a lot of suction power using the dust deputy. I have checked to the best of my knowledge which isn’t saying much LOL, I don’t feel any air leaking out of anywhere so I don’t know what’s going on. I would appreciate any insight you have. Thanks brother and again stay safe.

So I've thinking about this unit for a couple of months now and finally pulled the trigger this week. Got it home set it up (which was a breeze btw) and bamn. Personally I think this thing is a waste of money. Maybe I got a bad unity or I'm missing something, but my shop vac runs circles around this thing. I may do my own review. Shopvac vs. Dust whimp.

I have four cats, and they use pine pellet litter. The pine pellets turn to sawdust when the cats urinate on them, and the sawdust falls down into the bottom tray through the perforations in the upper tray. Emptying the bottom trays can be a hassle. Moreover, emptying the buckets into a larger bin indoors releases considerable dust. I was wondering if I could use a high-capacity dust collector such as this to remove the dust from the bottom pans and empty the bag once every couple of weeks. The sawdust is slightly moist, which makes me wonder if the moisture would lower the efficiency of the suction or clog the filter. Also, do you think such a dust collector is impractical for use inside the house? Does it have an exhaust that releases particulates indoors? I'd really appreciate your thoughts.

Does this style of extractor need a cyclone separator since the dust doesn’t travel directly through the filter?

Nice review. Perhaps in the future, you could measure the pre and post noise level that a dust collector such as this one adds when operated with a selection of tools. I'm dreaming; but, it would really be nice not to need hearing and dust protection.

I got the wall mounted 650cfm version. Mine is much louder than 75dB, listed at 80-85dB. If this one was available last year I’d have got it instead of the 650. Quieter, more cfm, mobile, about the same price. All pluses! Mine sounds like a jet taking off, need hearing protection to use it.

A cyclone fitted to a 55gal drum is pretty good and easy to manoeuvre if you have one particular tool that is making a lot of dust in your shop, you can connect that cyclone onto any other dust collector that you use as a vacuum supply, and to catch any microfine dust :)

Thanks for sharing this. I just retired and building my woodshop. I'm building a 16'X24' building in back yard in April to dedicate my tools to an area where I'm not getting dust on my wife's storage bins in the garage. I have a spinal cord injury and use a wheelchair 100% of the time. That does not stop me. I built my wife a 6' patio swing last summer. My question on this 750: Keep in mind, I have about 20% grip in my hands. How easy is it to change that bag? I have total strength in my arms so no issues lifting 30+ Lbs. I'm on the fence with these dust collectors but your demonstration on this 750 is drawing me towards purchasing this. I have no concerns moving hose from one machine to another. Not an issue. Thanks again for sharing this!

I bought this unit last spring. I haven't had to change the bag yet, but I do remember what it was like mounting the empty bag the first time. The snap ring that holds the bag makes it pretty easy to mount an empty bag. That shouldn't be a problem for you. Taking a full, or half-full, bag off might be a problem. Considering your diminished hand strength, you would probably want to somehow grab a hold of the bag with one arm, while you pull out the snap ring with the other hand. One nice thing about this unit is that the bag sits over the base so if you didn't hold the bag while releasing the snap ring, the bag would drop to the base. On mine, the bag just barely touches the base so it wouldn't drop very far when releasing the ring. All you would need to do is stabilize the bag so it doesn't fall over when it's released. Even with your abilities, I think that's very doable. From there, you tie up the bag and then you could drag it to wherever you would store it for later disposal. Given your situation, I think this unit would work for you. Compared to other dust collectors that are on a mobile base, this has a much smaller footprint so it would be easier for you to maneuver around your shop while pushing it from your wheelchair. The basket for the hose is right there at your level for taking it out and putting it away. I would suggest the Dust Right collapsible hose though. I have a standard 10 ft, 4" flex hose and it is a pain to wrestle in and out of the basket. It fits, but it's a struggle that would be worse for you. The collapsible hose would sink right in to the basket for no trouble. The only bummer about this unit is the price. When I bought it last spring, it was $550. The current $800 price tag is quite a jump. If you can afford it, I really think it would work for you. Power-wise, it will beat a shop-vac set up by a mile. I have a Ridgid 12-gal vacuum with the Dustopper and while it works great on a router table fence or with a sander, it's woefully inadequate on my table saw (Ridgid R4512). I only get about 80 cfm at the end of the hose. I have it on a cart (designed by JohnBuildsIt, here on KZfaq) so it rolls around nicely. However, the Dust Right 750 will give you at least 400 cfm at the end of the hose and that will be enough for just about any tool. I hope this helps and I wish you luck with your new shop.

Would you recommend this dust collector over the larger 1250 collector for a small garage, hobbyists wood shop? Or could you just upgrade the harbor freight D/C to a new canister filter and that would suffice? Im really on the fence about it.
