Guitar lesson on how to effectively kill string noise. String noise caused by hitting other strings and just from moving on the guitar is a by product of playing the instrument. You just have to learn how to control said string noise by proficiently muting out all the notes that you are not playing. We teach you exactly how to do that in this lesson using a two handed string muting technique. This is a must know to keep your playing clean and sounding best as possible.Feel free to email us any questions. Enjoy and rock on!

Awesome lesson! I am relearning guitar after not playing for almost a decade. I’m trying to relearn without the self-taught bad habits, and was really surprised I was doing this technique pretty much 100% correctly. Your videos are very helpful so far, can’t wait to get back up to previous speeds.

I've seen that most players seem to eventually intuitively understand muting after a few years, especially if they use headphones while practicing. Everyone works out their own techniques and it really depends on the style they play. It becomes a lot easier after you've developed callouses and your fingers no longer adhere or catch the strings as much. I used to obsess about sympathetic ringing and other string noise a lot at the beginning. After a while I noticed it just started going away seemingly on its own as I just started subconsciously muting strings with both hands. You can try to explain the fundamentals but it really is just a journey of experimentation kinda like spending a year or two on getting pinch harmonics right.

Hi and thank you for checking out our lessons and for your insights and feedback. Really good points and you are right that the issue gets cleaner as we more forward in our guitar journeys and are playing gets more refined. Its still good to know how to imply the technique and start early with it as it seems to be almost a fundamental. Thanks again and stay tuned as lots more killer content and lessons coming soon. Hey man, your videos always pop up and realized I wasn’t subbed yet! Your way of explaining is simple yet thorough. I’m looking at getting one of those string dampening bands to help since I’m still learning. Using headphones through a sim, there’s excessive noise even when I’m muting. Or, for example, fretting on the high 3 strings, sometimes the A string also resonates. Your wrist resting should mute it, I’m struggling with that

Hi and thank u so much for ur kind words - so glad that u like my lessons and that I can help u along with your playing. And thank u for watching. You could get one of those string dampening bands - lots of players use them so that would be fine. I do suggest however that u keep working on your string muting and really dial in the technique so u dont always have to rely on that dampening band. I try and mute out all the string I am not playing with the side of my palm of my pick hand for the low strings and the first finger laying on the strings with my fret hand - that works for me as I describe in the video. You may have to tweak the technique a little to make it work for you and it takes time and practice to dial it in - but u will be amazing at how well it works once you have it engrained as part of your playing. And be sure to take a good look around the channel as we have tons of killer content and lessons lots of fun stuff. Enjoy and stay tuned - lots more content coming soon. It's not an easy thing to adapt to this style having come from an acoustic standpoint where virtually all playing is done on the fingertips of the fretting hand. I'll master this, as I simple have to, but it's going to take a while! The incentive is noisy bends that sound terrible!! Thanks for the lesson :)

Hi and thank u for checking out this video and for your kind words - so appreciated. Yeah, this technique takes some time to get used to....but like you mentioned, its so necessary. Especially like u said coming from acoustic it is a bit of a change. But if you stay consistent with it and practice it every day it will get more and more automated into your playing technique and eventually u won't even have to think about it - it just will happen. I know that may seem like a long way away - but stay positive and you will get there! Hi and thank u for watching and ur kind words - really appreciated. Yeah, I love PRS guitars - so cool - and this one is really fun to play - love the tones. As far as using the muting technique to play the low E string unmuted I just remove my pick hand from the bridge ever so slightly - its very subtle. The whole muting technique of using both hands to kill all the noise takes a little bit to get used to - but big win when u have it nailed down and so necessary to eliminate the noise. Just takes some time and practice and patience. And be sure to take a good look around the channel as we have tons of killer content and lessons lots of fun stuff. I don't know why, but string noise isn't an issue with my Les Paul, but is on my Strat--different pickups?
@rockongoodpeople

Hi and thank u for watching. It could be the pickups or perhaps your pick hand placement on the bridge and how you are muting. Its hard to diagnose the issue without seeing it but I would again emphasize the importance of leaving your pick hand on the strings to mute them like in the video. You have to adjust the hand position up or down as you move your playing but these subtle moves become built into your technique once you get used to them. Its just moving both hands on those sweet spots to kill all the noise. Hope that helps. Keep rocking and you will get it! Have a great day! -David Taub, Next Level Guitar Inc. & EGI

@@rockongoodpeople i know its hard to explain but i will try. I know how to stop other string ring out while i play one string (example, i know how to mute E A D G E while i play B string). but i dont know how stop string ring out after i play then i found the solution, the solution is i slightly touch the string after i play it with my side palm then lift this and some time i release the pressure from my left hand (frets) this the example kzfaq.info/get/bejne/o91_l8Z_s57WcWQ.html Then question its techniques correct or no? ... 03/18/2020: Hello, I love your video lessons. You mentioned you want viewers to reply with what viewers would like to see. OK, how about demonstrating the Fender 2x12 speakers Tone Master Deluxe Reverb solid-state amp. I have some doubts about it: (1) Very pricey solid-state, (2) No effects loop, (3) No headphone jack (Note: The switch on the back is nothing more or less than a volume selector switch, so headphones are still desirable), (4), I understand it is trying to imitate the tube amp, but one of my questions for both the tube and solid-state Fender amps is why two channels to plug a guitar cable into? Why not just one guitar jack channel for totally clean (1-10 volume), and then dial in by hand or foot switch the reverb and tremolo? Also, Fender brags about its amps clean channel being great. But, in their tube amps the clean channel breaks up when the volume hits about "3" and I can understand that in a tube amp. But, in a solid-state amp, the clean channel should stay clean maxed out the volume (1-10). So, why not have in a solid-state amp a clean-channel that stays clean at maxed-out volume, and just has the Reverb and Tremolo and Distortion knob that can be dialed in. So, it would have one guitar cable jack for totally clean, and thee knobs for Reverb, Tremolo, and Distortion. I have a 2006 (14-years old technology is great) Peavey Bandit red-stipe solid-state amp that actually does all that, and it only cost me $200.00, and a Randall 100W solid-state head with 4-speaker cab that does all that for $500.00. Also, look at the 2020 Katana Series solid-state amps with the same good features. So, why is Fender charging about $1,000.00 for a solid-state amp that seems to not be as technologically good and cost-effective as other solid-state amps? Besides it does sound good, what do you think?
@rockongoodpeople
@rockongoodpeople 4 жыл бұрын
Hi and thank you for your kind words on my lessons - so appreciated and thank you so much for your support. Unfortunately I have not tried out that Fender Wholetone solid state amp. But you make some great points in your post. Not sure why they would produce an amp at that price point but doesn't have all the features you mention. The bottom line is how does the amp sound and does it have the features a player needs. No effects loop is a big letdown for sure - at that price point they should have it. You are right that the Katana seems to be the high water mark for modern feature solid state amps. I can tell you that there is differences in the fender tube amp line. You mentioned about the fender tube amp you tried broke up on the clean side at like level 3 - well they have a lot of variation in their line as to how much headroom each model has. I have a fender deville and it stays very clean till you really crank it up super loud. Its a 60 watt amp I believe so the lower watt amps tend to break up at lower volume levels. This is of course a player preference - how much head room u want. Fender tube amps do provide great platforms for pedals as many players use the clean channel in the fender amp for cleans and run pedals for their overdrive, distorted, and effects. Having that effects loop is of course very important. Hope that this helps a little with your search and questions. I will try and check out one of those wholetone amps and then maybe be able to provide some more info. Sorry I couldn't be of more help on this one. Take care and keep up all that hard work on that guitar and remember that your playing is an evolution! Rock on! -David Taub, Next Level Guitar Inc & Mind Cell Band

@@rockongoodpeople: Thank you for your fast and informative reply. I did make a typing error in my comments. The 2020 Fender amp is not called a Wholetone. It is called the Fender "Tone Master Deluxe Reverb" solid-state amp. So, I corrected that in my narrative. I have been doing some pedal research and found a Joyo pedal called the "American." Most pedals seem to only work well in tube amps. Well, this pedal can be used in solid-state amps like mine (2006 Peveay Bandit red-stripe 80W solid-state amp), and the pedal sounds like Fender tube amps, which can also dial in distortion. It also only cost $40.00, so I ordered one from Amazon today to try it out. It may just be what I need, instead of spending $1,000.00. Maybe one day, if I ever get to play really well, I would invest in a Fender "Tone Master" solid-state amp (that is, after many upgrades). Thanks again for your reply and helpful information. Check this out about the Joyo pedal: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/a7mEfKSK1NqZp6c.html
