I don't know if they just don't do enough QA on this stuff or if the game engine is severely lacking in some regards, but it has a tendency to totally screw with not just the volume levels of the cable, but the levels of OTHER microphones. (maybe it's a Windows 10 thing, who knows) anyway, if you right click on your volume icon in the taskbar and click on "Recording Devices" you can get into the Properties menu --> Advanced tab of each microphone and uncheck the option to "Allow applications to take exclusive control of this device" for each microphone that you DO NOT want the game to detect. (for me, I never use my voice mic which is for other games, although that's a feature RS 2014 supports) Rocksmith will complain about it every time the game launches after the splash screen, but you can just hit Enter and bypass that menu. I found after recalibrating with a new guitar (with a split coil pickup on bridge to noise cancel the single coil neck), it would work fine for clean parts but was a total disaster with certain distorted rhythm lines... not sure why. I recalibrated 5 or 6 times and it was driving me nuts. turns out if I ended up closing and reopening that properties window, Rocksmith was constantly adjusting the levels of the Tone Cable!!! after calibration, it set the volume to 58, then as soon as I closed the program it set it to 17%. I don't think it increased it back to the proper level when launching the game repeatedly. never would've guessed that was the problem... thank you for this tip! I've tried forcing it to 100% and not allowing the application to take exclusive control, but unchecking that box seems to just make it so the game can't detect the cable at all... I don't know if 100% would cause the levels to push into distortion or be overall too loud, but at least I know what the number should be from calibration tests. it automatically took it down from 100% to 58% when I reloaded it, but the 17% glitch seems to happen after closing. I'm not sure if it brings the level back up after you launch the game next time. so bizarre. (edited for details)

It's Windows, not the game. Windows constantly changes the volume of my microphone.

It's not Windows, it's the game using its calibration to change the volume of the guitar aka the "microphone" volume.

I used to have that problem when trying to tune to drop D. As long as your strings' "action" (how far from the fretboard they are) isn't ridiculously high, playing a string on the 5th fret must give the same note as the next one with no fret pressed on standard E. (the G chord applies the same way, except you have to press it on the 4th one. If you feel rocksmith hasn't tuned well, once it has let you past the tuner, tune it yourself by ear.

have you tried raising the pickups? near the end of the video they explain that if your guitars volume output is too low you might need to raise the pickups.

Barry B You can do several things if you can´t tune to E... one is use a capo, and learn to deal with the fact that you are going to be half step move vs what the game shows. Then you can only play songs on different tuning (the games doesn't tune to E all the time... just when the song need it). Finally and in the same line as using a capo, you can just fool the program, and play E'A'D'G'B'E in what ever tuning you have... some times when I want to play rythmic guitar with my ukelele (to see the chord names), but i have my jass bass plug in... all i do is fool the game... so for me it´s play the notes 1 octave lower and then in the G string play 16 and 21 i think.... Another example... I HATE tuning... so playing with my bass, since it is 5 strings, i just use the B on the 3rd fret for songs with a D tuning... It´s a bit of a mental exercise but you get used to it

Really! strings break! Shock and horror. That never happens, ever..... If it was low E I'd be impressed.

Check your intonation. Easy way tune to E standard Pause on a song, and then play each string on the 12th fret which should correspond with standard tuning (just up 1 octave), if it's a different note, you need to tweak the intonation.

well normally your guitar will have a couple of knobs. one for volume other for tremble an another for bass, also are you playing in PC? on my pc i had to turn up the level of the rocksmith cable so it could pickup the sound properly to do that it was (after opening the game) go back to window, recording devices, RS cable, levels... i use 67 i think the default is like 17...

my guitar has a volume knob and two tone knobs but they say tone, not bass or treble. and im on ps4

Chris Byrd I had that problem, mine was due to using Xbox to tv with hdmi and optical audio. You can find solutions on Google.

yea i found something that works for me.. mute player volume, use guitar peddle with duel amp outputs, one output to amp 2nd one to ps4 and now im just using my amp for sound

Make sure your volume is tirned up all the way on the guitar had the same issue then fixed it by turning up my guitar

I had the same problem with my bass, im pretty sure it could be the neck isnt straight or it could be like my second hand guitar witch for some reason the screw that allowed the bridge to stay down had the same issue

thing is you cant even progress with out tuning, it tells me to keep turning down my E string even though it pops out after a while of me doing it it still says to high

It's almost as if pickups have varying degrees of power, the pickups in that Epiphone will be shit so it'll need to be closer, whereas if you had a Gibson Les Paul, they'd be much more powerful

It's not picking up your guitar right check your bridge is where its sapposed to be and turn up your volume. last resort raise your pickup

ethan hawk When you use the tuner... you tune just to pass or you target to have 0?... if you play on the 5th and shows you the arrows pointing to the right (meaning you are in the 4th) you can try to tune a bit sharp to compensate (so wen you are in the tuner, try to get plus 4 or so...) Does this happen in all your strings?

ethan hawk This might be an issue with your guitars intonation. Check if the 12 fret on, for example, the low E string is registered as an E. And for every other string (A on 12th should be A, D on 12 D, and so on). If it is flat or sharp you should adjust your bridge to compensate. You can manage this with adjusting your bridge. I don't wanna go into details here, but you can find some tutorials around

+FabulousnesslyDan On a computer when you play (learn) a song you go to menu (press esc) and to tuner. There you press to calibrate. As is says so in the bottom right corner.

Is it coming from the in-game audio or fret buzz from the guitar? Cheaper guitars often suffer from fret buzz

Read somewhere if you play left handed your hand/arm will touch the realtone cable and cause a buzzing noise. Not sure if that helps.
