I love my raccoon, Rocksy! This little raccoon is hysterical, has lived in my yard for years and LOVES to play with a rock and knock on the door! She had just eaten the cats food when I shot this video! She is a mooch! Sometimes... she will come back ten times in a day! Playing with a rock to her... must be like being a chain smoker.... LOL... she has to have something in her hands! She will lay on the patio furniture and play with a rock... lay in the yard and play with a rock... she is so funny! Yes, she has five adorable babies who are growing quickly! I will be posting photos/videos soon. There are many mean people out there... so I have been very protective of her... please understand that. I am glad so many of you love her... she is very entertaining... and is a great mom to her babies! Please... be kind to raccoons... know that most raccoons out in the day are nursing mothers who just need a "mommy time out" to rest and nourish... for they stay in the den at night with their babies to protect them. I have volunteered for years in wildlife rescue, had my rabies shots... I know what I am doing for those who do not know my background. Do not try to pet raccoons, feed them etc... just let them be... Many times people think it is cute to get close to one... and they are wild.. .and if scared, they can bite. Then their life is in jeopard because many want to do them harm. Watch them and enjoy them from a distance. She is NOT a pet... but lives in my yard and surrounding jungle area... there is lots of wildlife where I live... and I respect it, love it, embrace it and encourage everyone to please, love and respect all animals... they are such a gift to this earth... we must protect them and educate people as to just how wonderful they are! Thank you all for your nice comments... I hesitated sharing my video because the world is full of mean people... but I want to help teach people to love and respect them.... I live in a swamp and over the years all sorts of animals and birds have come knocked on the door and I fed them. None ever stayed more than a couple of weeks, most only a day or 2. I think if an animal is desperate enough to come knock on the door they are really in trouble and just need a little help and they will go on their way when they are able. Once a male yellow warbler came knocking and I would put stuff out for him, food, water, dryer lint, broom straw etc. about a week later I found a dead female warbler in the flower bed so the daddy bird was taking care of the babies. He came for about 2 weeks and that was it. So that whole don't feed them or they will never leave is not always true.

This summer, after my neighbor cut down all the trees in his yard, I had a baby (4 month or so old) raccoon move into my covered deck. She didn't want to leave and stayed there for weeks. She got used to me, and liked that I fed her cat crunchies. After a few months, she would come down and meet me when I got home from work. I played with her a bit. But, it was getting close to fall, and I knew she couldn't stay (we live on a busy road, and I have a neighbor that shoots raccoons on sight). So I arranged her to be picked up by a wildlife rehabilitator. She hopped right into the crate, and loved her new surroundings. Still miss the little critter. But I know she's living a good life now. Raccoons are so awesome. :)

Everyone saying "Feed it!! It's hungry!" Think for a second. The raccon comes and steals cat food (which isn't cheap), then comes and bugs you for hours, scratching up your window with a rock just for more food. It's a raccoon, it can get food elsewhere. By feeding it you're enabling it to return. You think that raccoon will stop doing it anytime soon if you keep feeding it? I for one don't find being annoyed cute. Yes it's amazing the raccoon learned how to do this on its own, but I would not feed it.

We just found a baby by the road and her eyes are still closed. I got her to take the formula today, she realized it was food. Going to take care of her till she can take solids then taking her to our wildlife coalition place. I would love to keep her in our yard but there's an expressway behind our house and we have Terriers who will not take to her at all. I'm enamored but being realistic.

"Rocksy" is SO adorable!! She reminds me of my raccoon, who I lost eight years ago. I loved her like a daughter. Her name was "Oscar" (I thought she was a male, at first), named after one of the guys we hired to cut up and take away the fallen cottonwood tree, where she had been found after a bad storm. She was a newborn, and looked like a large rat, but with a black mask. That is how I knew what she was. I raised her. I tried to get her back to her mother, but I could not leave her alone out there (on our ranch), because she looked like a large rats and we had feral cats out there. I was afraid, that they would get her. I, also, did not see her mother, but I know that my presence, while watching the baby did not help. At the time, I was afraid that she would be put to sleep if I took her to the wildlife center. I know different now, and if I were to ever find a baby raccoon again, I would take the baby to the wildlife center. Anyway, I kept her, because she was terrified of the outdoors (possibly trauma from the tree falling and the storm, Idk). She was SO intelligent. She always wanted to know how things worked. She would unscrew the nuts from bolts to take things apart. She knew that I did not want her to do that, so she would put one hand in her mouth, like an innocent child, while the other hand was behind her back unscrewing something. I used to think of her capabilities as that of a small child. She was more like a monkey, than just any wild animal, because of the things that she did and could do. I kept a log of her development in several small notebooks. I wish that all people could realize how intelligent and wonderful raccoons are, and that people would choose to NOT hunt them or do anything else to harm them. I thank you, SO MUCH for putting Rocksy and her babies on You Tube, and for trying to inform and educate people about these marvelous little animals!!

NOT the animals... therefore, I will NOT help humans causes ... I will concentrate my energy on educating humans on animals and wildlife. She played with rocks all day long... laid on the deck with a rock... laid in the chair with a rock... would stand up and knock on the door when there was food 6" from her... Love how she's not just knocking but using the rock to get maximum attention. Smart animal. I fostered two kits about 2 days old until release. It was alot of work but tons of fun. I see them often because I grow fruits and veggies and nut trees for wildlife to munch on, (they both have crooked tails so easily identifiable) racoons are very smart little critters that can be as loyal as a dog. I HAVE A MOMMA RACOON THAT BRINGS 6 BABIES TO MY BACKDOOR (SLIDING GLASS DOOR) EVERY NIGHT. I FEED THEM FRUIT AND CAT CHRUNCHIES. THEN I HAVE 12 CATS I TAKE CARE OF. THEN I GO TO LOCAL FOOD PANTRIES SO I CAN EAT. I LOVE THEM ALL ! YOURS IS SO ADORABLE. GREAT VIDEO.

I love your video! We have a family of 6 in our back yard that we feed every evening....they sit in a row and gobble down catfood, hand-rolled bread balls and, usually, a banana. Last night, one of the group was waiting on my back porch and followed me to his eating spot. Raccoons are fantastic, entertaining little creatures. You're right....there is such a misconception about the dangers (not to say they are disease free, etc), but our "rackies" come out during the day ALL THE TIME and NOTHING is wrong with any of them. THANKS for posting this adorable video. Ignore the pessimist's comments....they don't know any better.

I am just so saddened by all of the negative, rude, clueless comments on here... so I seldom respond. I had JUST fed her and did NOT want to feed her on camera as not to encourage people to feed wildlife. I was also afraid that someone would try to cause problems... which they did within a few days. The Florida Wildlife Commission showed up at my door become some sick, jealous bastard called it in. The FWC was so nice and said I was doing nothing wrong... but I was warned that there would be evil people and that breaks my heart. For ALL of you that rip me apart for NOT feeding here... here is the deal. She knocked on my door everyday... for hours... for NINE months! She was fed several times a day... she would snag my cats food... I would toss out fruits and veggies .... I never put food in my trash... but threw it out into my jungle of a yard for all of the wildlife to eat because they have NO where to go because the humans have taken all of their land and they fight to stay alive in the little bit of wild property that I provide on the lake! Rocksy LOVED ROCKS!!! She love to play with rocks. There would be food right by her but she would rather play with a rock. She would lay on her back on the deck... playing with a rock. She would lay in my lounge chairs and play with a rock... she would literally be standing by food... at the door... and look at me as she slammed the rock against the glass. It was her toy... her security blanket! I would take the rocks that were too BIG and toss them into the garden... she would run and get another rock and return and start knocking! She was the funniest raccoon on the planet and I held off sharing her talents because I knew, doing years of wildlife rescue, that there would be some EVIL people out there who would be mean. When I finally decided to educate people about NURSING raccoons out in the day... that that is usually the case and that they are NOT rabid... I shared the video with MY friends! I had NO friggin idea it would go viral. So... to the kind, loving, compassionate people who have been so kind with your comments... I say "Thank you," so much... you warm my heart and give me hope for this earth and the precious animals that live here. To the mean people, I say... you have hurt me without out knowing the details. I rescue all of the time... have a baby rabbit with a head injury in my home tonight... animals are my life... I am vegan... I have been vegetarian for 35 years.... because I do NOT believe in eating animals... it is wrong. I love and care for animals more than most and I am so sensitive. I have even had my rabies shots so I can do wildlife rescue! This video was a blessing and a curse. I have literally had threats and had to fear for my life coz of some psychopath I was warned about that was out to get me. To top it off, my sick bastard neighbors, who has poisoned so much wildlife over the years... poisoned Rocksy and two of her 4 babies on New Years Eve, not this year, but last. I lost part of my soul. So... please stop BASHING me for not feeding her... I had... all the time... she loved her rocks... I guess you could say... Rocksy was a ROCK STAR!
