@nitelite78

@@groggy34 It's an absolutely amazing scene. Paulie is really quite a selfish but broken man. Life hasn't turned out how he hoped but he blames the wrong people (i.e. Adrian). Adrian has this shyness affliction and is trapped by it. Both Paulie and Adrian depend on each other. It's a really realistic and difficult dynamic in a family where you love and depend on each other but resent each other at the same time. Brilliantly acted. I was super surprised by this scene the first time I watched Rocky - it's really hard hitting.

Rocky is a classic. The common misconception about this movie among first-timers is that its a sports movie. Its actually a love story with boxing in it. So saying there "may be a love intrest in it," is putting it mildly.

To keep costs down Stallone used family members in the movie. Besides his own pets, the dog and the turtles, his brother was the lead singer in the group singing around the fire in the trash can outside. And Stallone's dad was the guy ringing the bell during the Apollo fight.

Some context. 1976 was the bicentennial year, the 200th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence. It was a huge deal in the U.S. that year. That why Apollo Creed was dressed like a big flag. The guy climbing out of the ring at 25:43 is Joe Frazier, resident of Philadelphia and former world heavyweight champion. He fought Muhammad Ali three times and won once. Having him in the movie gave it a feeling of reality.
@edsmovie

Really glad you brought this up! The bicentennial was a huge deal in 1976 and a to ingrain in into the plot was resonant with the year it came out. And may be even a nudge to the state of the union at the time.

Stalone wrote the script based on himself. Not Boxing part but in general, but How life can be hard. Best part is, Stalone had such a hard time back then, that he had to sell his dog for 50$ to pay for rent and food. After Rocky, he bought his dog back for 15 000$ What a legend He Directed it, but fun Fact, Producers thought that he is "The worst choice" as an actor.

When Carl Weathers first auditioned for the part of Heavyweight Champion Apollo Creed, he thought Sylvester Stallone was some lowly production/set worker, and not the star of the movie. He asked to read with a "real actor" instead of with Stallone... Stallone thought this combination of unconscious arrogance and humor was perfect for the role of Apollo Creed.

Good reaction. I think you're wrong about Mickey : He doesn't came back to Rocky for the money but because this timr, Rocky had a chance to be someone, to make a name for himselft, to, at least, give Appolo a run for his money. Back in the days Mickey saw that Rocky had talent, that he had potential but instead of putting his mind to it, Rocky's been doing dirty deeds for the mafia Mickey cut ties with Rocky because he was too sad to see him waste his potential. Remember, when Rocky told him his job for the mafia was "a living" Mickey answer "That's a waste of life !"

They're not oiling them up. They're applying Vaseline. Have you ever banged your knee/elbow/hand/etc against something and scraped open the skin? Well, boxers get their faces repeatedly banged into gloved fists, so the slipperiness of the Vaseline helps reduce the scrapes/abrasions, and, if the skin does open up, the gel helps reduce some of the bleeding.

That scene where Rocky was running really fast with a ship in the background (at an area in Philadelphia called Penn's Landing), that ship was this windjammer ship from the early 20th century called the Moshulu. Rocky is truly one of the greatest Academy Award Winning movies as well as one of the best franchises in all of cinema that originated back in 1976 just eight years before i was born. If it wasn’t for Jerry Goldsmith winning the Oscar for Best Score because of that latin choir used for the soundtrack to The Omen, I’m sure that Bill Conti would’ve won it considering he gave this movie an outstanding soundtrack especially with the Rocky Fanfare, Going The Distance, and Gonna Fly Now. #Rocky #YoAdrian 🥊🎬🎥🏆
