I know Rocky 5 was the least liked by most, but for me it was my favorite. It was so true in so many ways in my life. I had it all growing up in a Philly suburb. As a kid my parents had money(dad worked 9-9 everyday but Sunday). I was always the best athlete. Could have been a pro baseball or soccer player but in my college years my health declined. It was real hard for me to give up my identity- my sports. I became a high school soccer and baseball coach. Wow I fell in love with coaching. What i still had in me, I gave to my players like rocky did to tommy. Just like rocky, I got that great feeling at every practice and every game. I went on to struggle financially, but I became a Physical Education Teacher and i was in heaven. I taught sports the way I thought it should be taught. My teaching and coaching was in so many ways even better than playing. Made me feel good about myself again. Taught for about 20 years, and had to retire due to medical issues again. I have 3 sons who are and have been my everything. Its hard for me now retired, but i still have my self esteem from my memories of coaching and teaching physical education, and knowing how i made such a positive difference in the lives of so many youths.
@RiruKrypto_6 жыл бұрын
It's funny how what you love doing a sport and sad how you cant play it anymore cause of your health and then you can use your experience and skills to teach what you know and you feel that satisfaction of giving that knowledge to someone and seeing them succeed brings you so much joy, it's very inspiring and I dont understand why people hated this movie or was their least favorite it shows the street fight was awesome!

I think thats why alot of fans didn't like this 1 of the whole series. Rocky lost everyone he loved. Mikey and Apolo. Lost his money. Thats why its considered the saddest of the series.
@rafaellima832 жыл бұрын
One thing that made the first 2 movies work so well and then failed on 3 and 4 was that Apollo wasn't a villain. He wasn't a badguy. He was arrogant and he was trying to trash talk Rocky into fighting him again in 2, but he was never really a badguy. Clubber and Drago are just villains. They are shown as bad people and that's all (and I really love the fact that Creed 2 gave Drago some humanity) In here Tommy Gunn is human too. He's a prick, for sure, but we see his process of becoming a prick, it's not like Clubber or Drago who were badguys from the beginning.
@castortroy77042 жыл бұрын
@@rafaellima83 Clubber wasn't truly an evil person. Sure, he accidentally caused Mickey's fatal heart attack but Clubber didn't know Mickey had a heart condition. Still shouldn't have pushed an old man regardless. Clubber just rightfully wanted a title shot like Rocky had and was frustrated at his shortcomings and rejection at a fair chance. Clubber challenged apollo I think because he wanted some of Apollo and if Apollo wasn't long since retired he would've accepted. Plus I think he was envious Apollo spoonfed Rocky a shot at the championship title because of his nickname whereas Clubber had to work his way up and was avoided. Drago battered Apollo to death. Period. Even shoved the referee aside. In reality that'd be murder or manslaughter at the least. But I don't think Drago planned to full fledged murder him. Drago was doped on steroids full of rage and superhuman power and angry at Apollo insulting him, his wife and training camp at the press conference pre fight so he had a point to prove and was determined to go all out to destroy Apollo, not stopping until Apollo was knocked out on the canvas. Rocky avenged his best friend's death plus trained his son and to later beat Drago's son of all. The true actual "evil " villains character wise were George Washington Duke and Tommy. Duke was a greedy, power-hungry, corrupt promoter that cared nothing for a brain damaged ex-champion's life or well being and turned his pupil against him. Tommy, however, was already a bad guy from the start with ill willed intentions to use Rocky to get to the top and earn a title shot. Tommy used Rocky to train Tommy to become the number one contender and earn a shot at the championship belt and used the Balboa family for a home to live. Once Duke came along, gave Tommy his own mansion, a sports car, a ginger street Walker moll and offered Tommy a "bogus " title shot against a paper champion (cane) Tommy had all the materialistic things he cared about only all along, showed his true nature and betrayed Rocky. Duke corrupted and brainwashed Tommy but Tommy was only using Rocky from the start. Duke just helped prove Tommy's true self. hence Robert reminding Rocky about his speech about scams and deceptions and how Rocky Rocky should've watched out himself. Tommy's whole so called good guy and caring student that loved Rocky like a brother was a facade.
@castortroy77042 жыл бұрын
R.I.P. Tommy Morisson. Was my favorite boxer growing up but his character aka Tommy Gunn was an opportunistic, backstabbing piece of garbage from the beginning in reality. Tommy put on a facade as this decent, honest, caring man that once idolized Rocky as a child, which I think was true, however, but inside his heart Tommy was only using Rocky from the start as Rocky's star pupil and student to get his foot in the door in the fictional boxing world of Rocky and Creed and needed Rocky to train him to work his way up the ladder and become the number one contender to get a title shot and become the heavyweight champion. Plus Tommy took advantage of Rocky's kind heart and used The Balboa family for a free place of living and shelter. Duke was the main villain but didn't truly turn Tommy. He helped Tommy reveal his true colors. Once GW Duke came along and seduced Tommy by giving him a redhead street whore/mole as his girlfriend and lover, bought Tommy a sports car as a materialistic gift along with his own mansion and handed Tommy a title shot against an ovverrated paper champion in a fixed fight. Though I believe Tommy could've beaten Union Cane the paper champion had Cane not thrown the fight and let Tommy K.O. him effortlessly I'm the first round, but it would've been a far more even, two sided, longer match and Cane trying would've held his own but eventually lost, Tommy showed his true colors, left Rocky and betrayed him. Hence Robert reminding Rocky about scams and deceptions towards the end.

Rocky Never lost the Title. He Surrendered it
@scottknode8986 жыл бұрын
Straightedgex34 he lost the title against Clubber Lang in their first fight won it back in rematch but year held the title but surrendered before his fight with Ivan Drago as Boxing commission wouldn’t sanction the fight in the US so had to fight in Russia

@Jeeses99 To be fair Apollo showed he could take the belt back since he beat him in rocky 3.

He should of take the risk with his title against drago.
@KalOrtPor5 жыл бұрын
Apollo beat Rocky in a friendly sparring session which is a relatively meaningless result, I can't imagine Rocky being very motivated to beat him after just winning back the title, and when it was Apollo's idea.
@goldleader45005 жыл бұрын
Straightedgex34 Rocky could have easy won that title back if it wasn’t for the damage to the head he suffered in all those fights. It’s actually very realistic.

I find it interesting how people hate on this movie. Rocky is the ultimate underdog story. He loses everything in this one and tries to go back to what he knows and thinks he can do the same thing Mickey did. Then he ends up having to fight against a darker version of himself. He lost his fortune but he never compromised who he was and the movie ends where it started: in his neighborhood. Then he proves he can still do it and eventually trains another fighter.

Me too. Rocky tried to walk away and held back until Tommy put his hands on Paulie, Rocky's best friend who stood up for Rocky despite Paulies demons and flaws and brother-in-law/brother to his wife he loved forever. After Tommy floored Paulie you knew by Rocky's face Tommy was done already.

Years later, Rocky finds redemption, for his failure with Tommy Gunn. Adonis Creed came into his life. Later, he helps redeems Apollo and Mary Ann Creed's memory, helping Adonis beat Ivan Drago's son. A happier ending, is Drago finding redemption; discovering he loves his son, more than boxing.
