I can imagine around that time, especially when to super powers are aiming missiles at each other. Especially if you’re in a country, surrounded by people that hate you for being from a capital of society as all the freedom while in the Soviet union there is none of that except propaganda

@@-Egor- I just love your anthem. The music is just so powerful. I think I like the Soviet lyrics a bit more, but no matter what it's very powerful. Even when I didn't know any translation nor did I speak any Russian, it just hit me on another level. By the way, have you seen Whitney Houston's rendition of The Star Spangled Banner? I think it's probably the best version of our anthem that I've heard.

When I watched this film for the first time, I was starting my job at the labor justice department in Moscow, back in the Soviet era. I don't know, Rock was the Americans' favorite. But we loved Ivan. The following week, you went to Gorky Park and lots of people were selling Ivan t-shirts.

Thats not the actual lyrics but thats the english adaption, the real lyrics are the following: “An unbreakable union free of republics” “Great Russia has been sealed forever” “Long live the ones created by the will of the people” “The united mighty, Soviet Union!” “Haaaaaiiilll ouurr faaatherland” “Friendship and peoples, are a reliable stronghold!” “The party of Lenin!” “Let it lead from victory to victory!” “Leading the triumph of communism!” And so on…

@@BlobBoi Technically, the version used in this movie is the 1944 edition of the Soviet anthem, whose first stanza and chorus were the exact same as what you wrote except the last two lines of the chorus were: “Flag of the Soviets, Flag of the People. May it lead from victory to victory.” After that, the anthem had two almost completely different stanzas than the 1977 version.

Funny thing: The mammoth boxing champion, promoted as the accomplishment of Soviet science and a property of the government, in the end reveals he was fighting purely for himself. The American veteran, dismissed off as fighting for his own personal interests, ended up avenging his best friend's death regaining his country's glory.

It always felt that here the audiences realizes what rocky and his team have already come to realize following Apollos death.
