Rocky was talking about Ali at that point in time, which was 1966. At the time, Ali was clearly a great fighter, which Marciano agreed with, but hadn't really proved himself as someone who could punch or take a punch. Ali proved that later on, in the 70s. I'm sure if Marciano had survived and you asked him the same question in 1976, he would have agreed that Ali was a complete fighter and arguably the best of all time. Marciano wasn't disrespecting Ali, he just didn't have a lot to judge him on. And many people thought the Liston fights were fixed.

@@amensbuildingjourney For my entire adult life, I’ve idolized Ronald Reagan as the greatest American president, certainly in the post WWII period, and probably of the 20th century. I’ve also idolized President Trump for having the guts to call a spade a spade, and do what he’d promised to do. General George S Patton has long been an idol of mine, for having had the indomitable will to attack our enemies relentlessly, and without regard for his own safety. Ben Shapiro might rightly be idolized for his virtually unparalleled ability as a conservative apologist. And finally, Dr Jordan Peterson could be idolized for having the moral courage not to bend to the fascist demands of virtue signaling woke idiots who would gladly sacrifice precious liberty on the altar of political correctness. See, I don’t care who someone is or what their reasons are for violating people’s freedom. No one gets to decide how anyone in a free society should peacefully exercise their rights.

The way i say it is in a series of 10 fights (if you could actually do that) prime Ali beats almost everyone 10x. The only wild cards i see to that are Louis, Marciano, Foreman, Tyson, and Lennox Lewis. These guys all had incredible knockout power, which i think is the only way to take out Ali in his prime. Tyson is the biggest wild card imo. It's conceivable he actually beats Ali more than 5x. But imo, even in this group, Ali wins like 8x vs everyone. But seeing that computer fight the most uncertain matchup would be Marciano i think. And it's because of that punch evasion he talks about here. They had very different styles but......they were both masters of getting away from punches. Ali did it by leaning back and foot speed. Marciano did it by taking advantage of his height disadvantage and ducking way low. He was like a short hitter in baseball, with a tiny strike zone to pitch to. What the computer fight showed is that Marciano could have, theoretically, dodged Ali's longer reach. The clips on YT show that. Which surprised me. So i think Ali meant what he was saying. Imo Ali takes him like 8 out of 10. But it wouldn't have been impossible to imagine the possibility of Marciano actually taking Ali 5 or 6x tho

A closer glance at Joe Louis 8 fight winning streak which helped him become #1 ranked contender before he faced Rocky. Below is the (6) (SIX) boxers Louis beat: 196 lb Cesar Brian -- Decision -- Brian never beat anyone noteworthy. He had abysmal 36% KO's 197 lb Cesar Brian -- Decision AGAIN -- Why Twice? 187 lb Omelio Agramonte -- Decision -- I watched entire fight and Joe's combinations were non-existent. Agramonte had low-power 45% KOs. The announcer said Louis was supposed to fight Charles after the Savold fight but Louis camp ducked him. 188 lb Omelio Agramonte -- Decision AGAIN -- Why Twice? 191 lb Freddie Beshore -- KO 28-10-1 Freddie had featherfisted 24% KO's 194 lb Andy Walker -- TKO 17-8-7 B-level Andy was powderpuffer with 18% KO's 179 lb Jimmy Bivens -- Decision - 5' 9" light heavyweight Jimmy had 25 losses and was KOd 5 times. He also had an abysmal 27% KO's 190 lb Lee Savold -- KO -- Savold lost 44 fights and was KOd 12 times. Even the announcer said Joe Louis reflexes are but a memory. These two should have been retired. They just pushed Louis through towards Marciano so everyone could fill their pockets with money. Talk about bum-of-the-month-club, WOW. Notice the 5 decisions. A prime 24 year old (1938) speedy combination puncher Joe Louis would have easily accumulated 8 knockouts against those powder-puffers. It was obviously a predetermined carefully hand-picked set-up. So Joe comes outta retirement and takes the worst beating of his career from a light heavyweight (Charles) then he fights 6 stiffs and becomes #1 ranked contender smh. Joe looked like he was wadding through mud when he fought Rocky. Boxing-elites Italian-mafioso and IRS really needed Joe to be ranked #1 inorder to get their Louis vs Marciano $$-SHOW-$$. The entire eastern seaboard was ruled by Italians. The only loyalty the Italian-mob-had was-to-money. Hey they even took 50% of Marciano's earnings and all ticket sales, all in all $2 Million. $2 Million in 1955 is equivalent to $21 Million today. Norris Carbo Weill had complete control over Rocky. That's why he Quit. The Louis camp negotiated a deal with the IRS under which he would come out of retirement, with all his net proceeds going to the IRS. After boxing Joe ended up in the pro wrestling circuit and they still took his money. But that gig finished when Cowboy Rocky Lee lunged onto him with both feet, his boots colliding with Louis' torso. The crash cracked three of his ribs. It left him with a cardiac contusion and officially ended his stint as a wrestler. Children used to send him one dollar in the mail. In his biography he said a child walked up and handed him a dime. When Joe was broken physically and mentally the IRS finally stopped collecting. He lived with friends until he died.

JOURNEYMAN JERSEY JOE WALCOTT EXPOSED There are few heavyweight champions in the history of boxing that are better known for their losses than their wins. Jersey Joe Walcott's high profile losses is what elevated his status and built up his credentials, not his wins. During his peak championship years, Walcott scored 7 wins with 5 KO's. Only one of those KO's came against a ranked fighter, that being Ezzard Charles. During this time Walcott also lost 7 times and suffered 10 count KO's 3 times and a 9 count once. In total fights during this time Walcott's record was 7-7. In title fights he went 2-6 with 1 KO win and 3 KO losses. He fought 3 different men in his 8 title fights, was defeated by each of them twice, KO'd by two of them and only defeated one of them. In his overall career, Walcott had a 49-20-1 record and was KO'd 6 times (BoxRec). Based on these less than impressive stats it is difficult to consider him anymore than a good Journeyman. Walcott scored 32 KO's in 70 fights. 8 of them came against fighters who were winless. The only two ranked fighters Walcott ever KO'd was an off the floor 10th round win over Curtis Sheppard and the lightning in the bottle KO of Ezzard Charles. Walcott is a prime example of boxing historians rating a fighter higher than he deserves based on impressive losses. Walcott was winless in all 4 of his fights vs Louis/Marciano and was KO'd 3 times. The fact that Walcott was granted 6 title attempts in a 6 year span speaks volumes about how weak the heavyweight division must have been at this time. Five of these title opportunities came immediately after a Walcott loss. Had Walcott been fighting in the 60's, 70's, 80's, 90's, 2000's, there is no way he would have been granted this many opportunities after losing so many title attempts. Walcott should at best be remembered not as a great heavyweight champion, but a good Journeyman.

The funniest one is Don Turner saying, "Marciano could beat both Klitschko brothers at the same time in the same round," and of course Marciano casuals literally believes it as truth. Just because Ali said, "Rocky was like a bull and would be difficult to knock out," does that make it true? Holmes said, "Rocky couldn't carry his jockstrap," does that make it true? Foreman came out with his own top 10 greatest Heavyweights list and he didn't even include himself, does that make it true? It's called being humble, creating a public image. What else are they supposed to say? Marciano was horseshit? Besides, show me ONE (1) poll that has Marciano ranked higher than Ali? Waiting, tic toc tic toc. Quotes are mere speculations, or simply showing ones respect. Remember Ali's famous speech directly after beating Foreman. What did Ali say? "EVERYBODY STOP TALKING NOW.. I TOLD Y'ALL I WAS THE GREATEST OF ALL TIME.. I TOLD Y'ALL I'M STILL THE GREATEST OF ALL TIME." little 185 lb rocky pfft 😂

@@Maria.Isabella.Sanchez I'm not defending Rocky. I dont know who he would or wouldn't beat from any generation. I'm simply pointing out that someone much more qualified to make that assessment than me said that Rocky Marciano would give him a very hard time because their styles of fighting didn't match up. Take for example Tommy hearns completely demolishing Roberto Duran only to end up getting demolished by Charles Berkley and then to end up getting defeated by Roberto Duran. Same can be said with the matchup between George Foreman and Joe Frazier. George Foreman knocked him down 7 or 8 times before the fight was stopped but took Ali to the absolute limit on three separate occasions but then Ali was able to defeat George Foreman some would argue easier than he was able to defeat Frasier at any point. Some people are just difficult to match up with other fighters despite what the record might indicate.

@@Maria.Isabella.SanchezI’m glad there are people with sense people act like Marciano was Superman or something. The man had little boxing ability, weak resume small for an all time great heavyweight his fans claim he is and a very short reach if he were to fight the all time great heavyweights in a tournament with the best version of all of them he would be the first one eliminated easily. Hell he might not even make the tournament

He and Ali had a great respect for each other. Rocky praised Ali's excellent agility and ability to slip punches like they were nothing and Ali praised Marciano's unwavering toughness and heart. If you think about it from a very technical stand point neither of them were exceptional in the ways we usually consider great fighters nowadays but they still were two of the greatest. Rocky Marciano was not a particularly imposing heavyweight. He was small, his footwork left much to be desired (two left feet being his very own description of it), he was not particularly hard to hit, and his punch while impressive for his size was not so devastating as to carry his entire career. However he had a fight in his soul like few other could ever even be roughly compared to. The only other two men that come to mind are probably Smokin' Joe Frazier and Muhammad Ali himself. Muhammad Ali similarly did not have any particularly outstanding qualities save for his speed. His punches were not particularly hard nor individually dangerous, he was far from an immovable wall that nobody could knock down, his defense was not particularly amazing either as Mike Tyson described "his defense was not great but his speed was his defense". And yet with what surely was a rather subpar toolset for a heavyweight fighter he still became one of if not the greatest heavyweights to ever lace up the gloves because just like Marciano he was willing to die in that ring before he gave up.

What’s interesting about this observation is later on one of Ali’s biggest strengths was his chin, nobody can deny he fought some of the biggest punchers in heavyweight history, Frazier, Forman,Lyle, and maybe the biggest of all Shavers,

Ever wonder why little Rocky Marciano is always ranked so high? Because his ranking is determined by modern computer metric algorithms. Problem is this man-made program was coded to exclude "WEIGHT" from the equation. That's why tiny-165 pound 'Heavyweight' champion Bob Fitzsimmons from the 1800s is ranked ahead of giant Riddick Bowe. How's it possible 185 pound Marciano ranks higher than Fury Holmes Lewis Vitali Wladimir Foreman Bowe Tyson etcetera? Well now we all know why!!! Even though Heavyweight champions ranged from 165 (Fitzsimmons) to 328 (Valuev) pounds, ranking bodies still exclude "WEIGHT" from their metric, even though they 'Still Acknowledge Seventeen (17) Different "WEIGHT" Classes', imagine that. "AGE" is another code omitted from the metric. The algorithms only see Marciano fought 4 Hall of Famers and went 49-0, it doesn't see Moore was 41 years "old" and "light" heavyweight moonlighting at Heavyweight. That's why ALL Heavyweight rankings should be looked upon with a grain of salt. Unfortunately Rocky fanboys cling to his ranking as if it were life and death.

Keep crying. The guy fought everyone in front of him and gave Walcott and Moore two shots at him. Never lost. 49-0. The greatest.

You forgot one key stat for Rocky. 43 knockouts. He was 49-0 with 43 knockouts. That is huge. He was perhaps the smallest Heavyweight Champion of all time. Smallest hands, shortest reach, as well as shortest height I believe. Yet he managed to fight the best of the best in his era and beat them all.
