Rocky was a very good boxer but a very poor analyst. In their first fight Cooper hit Ali with a left hook that would have knocked Clay out had it landed while they were in the middle of the ring. Clay would have hit his head on the ring floor instead of landing softly on the ropes.

I suggest people watch the Cooper v Ali ( Clay ) fight . Henry Cooper hit Ali with such a left hand that Angelo Dundee had to year Ali's already split glove and administer smelling salt . The smelling salts were illegal in boxing, and the glove tear was plain cheating . Dundee admitted both many years later.
