My classes at college were full of skint females and not one of them resorted to prostitution. They worked during the summer, weekends and so on. Many of them went without luxuries like mobile phones and so on or fancy meals. Students back then did not go on summer trips to Ibiza unless they came from a wealthy family as they were working.

A question:- Should we shame people that distort figures to try and con the public that a failed project is the best thing since sliced bread, when its not. Or should we only follow journalists that publish articles based on fact rather than fiction. Britain are now having infrastructure cuts to what was promised, plus tax increases along with food shortages. And yet there is no shortage of foodstuff in French supermarkets plus they are receiving tax cuts and lots of local and regional infrastructure investment. So another simple question a balanced journalist would like to answer is who is doing well out of Brexit. Plus some of our prominent politicians and large business ventures have opened offices and branches in Europe to get on the EU gravy train. I wonder what punishment journalists that did not want Brexit will demand of all those right across the board that demanded Brexit on the false promise that ALL the British people would gain.

I feel the elephant in the room here. Is why university students who get into Durum of all places, and are obviously from a well off middleclass background, feel the need to resort to that kind of work from an economic standpoint? Might it not be due to the simple fact that there is not enough high paying work for the aspirational young middle classes?

Liddle's logic is faulty. If children of divorced or single parents do worse than children of married parents, it does not logically follow that if they would have done better if they had two married parents. It is the wrong comparison. Liddle should be comparing these children with the children from previous generations, whose parents married and stayed together because of the stigmas he thinks protected the children. He also ignores the fact that stigma affected the children as well as the parents, and were draconian in effect. My own mother, born in the 1920s, suffered dreadfully through her illegitimacy and ended up in a mental hospital in her mid-teens. The idea that children like her benefitted from the stigma of illegitimacy is contemptible..

I think a lot of overweight/obese people are very depressed and unhappy and they use food/overeating to cope w this. Others smoke, use drugs, and or drink excessively. So I’m not really in agreement on shaming them. They know they’re obese and probably have an idea of what deep down people think of them.

We have a moral duty not to comply. No to discriminatory vaccine passports and mandates, it is an utter disgrace. This must not happen England. Will never vote Labour or Tory again. Disgraceful

Careful now, Rod. Saying that about 16 year old single parents in this day and age is apparently "offensive" and judging someone's ill thought out morals judgements can make some woke Twitter user cry apparently.

ROD: The problem with "moral standards" is that, when I was born in the Year-of-Accession (1952) many people regarded 'being' homosexual (let alone expressing it physically) as demonstrating LOW moral standards. This attitude was fuelled by the Church, of course! However, as a confessing Christian, I am no moral relativist. I simply make a plea for greater nuance. There is nothing immoral in enjoying one's body, with others, UNTIL you decide to commit to ONE person, with whom you wish to have children. That is a game-changer! So I accept Cindy's argument that older adolescents should be provided with sufficient information to enable them to enjoy their own (and others'!) bodies safely. Where I disagree is a UNIVERSITY getting involved.
