This is a nearly 2-hour, uncut interview with Roddy McDowall touching upon his work on the PLANET OF THE APES series, which I believe was recorded in 1998, at the same time he was involved in an AMC documentary on the franchise.

Roddy McDowell was kind and timid in real life and when he was in films may he rest in peace thoughts and prayers 🙏

What a great interview, such a great actor. It really was Roddy and Kims performances that made Apes such a wonderful film and allowed for a series of them based on these Ape characters. So much emotion through so much makeup, amazing.

Roddy McDowall was a magnificent actor. I think he would have had a tremendous career renaissance had he lived longer.

Watching a recent documentary about the original IT (by Stephen King), Roddy was one of the initial choices to play Pennywise. Wouldn't that have been a trip!!!!????

I was a kid in the 70's watching all these movies on a black and white tv, movies from the 60's. What fantastic acting and costumes. Amazing how the realistic sets, locations, costumes and props played such important role in these productions, whether sci-fi or action, drama. Great to see how the actors were able to project personality and character traits through the costumes. These movies really paved the way for other sci-fimovies in the 70's like Star Wars and Jaws, which brought these philosophies to an even higher level. Even though Star Wars had more special effects, they shared similar traits which made you fall in love with the characters, whether they were a talking ape, robot or shark. Some of the best movies had amazing sets which, whether simple or complex were real and 3 dimensional, compared to new movies which so heavily rely on green screen.

Jaws is not a science fiction movie. Just because it came out in the decade of the apes and the first star wars doesn't mean it has anything to do with them. So is rocky horror picture show the same as Sylvester Stallones rocky ? Both were released around the same time

I'm sure had he lived long enough to see the Tim Burton remake, he would've retracted that statement.

I bet he'd have loved it and would've even done a cameo in Tim Burton's film because of how committed he was to the franchise.
