Deep Cover was superb. Too bad only Egbert was able to see it for what it was. The best film that year. It's holds up very good and is still a good movie after all these years.

As someone who was born in 1981, these episodes are gold; they cover great, serious films that would otherwise be forgotten for someone my age.

I got a laserdisc player around the time of this show for a couple hundred bucks. I was already a movie geek (college) but that laserdisc player made it into an obsession that is alive and well today. Just in the last couple of years, with people dumping their physical media, it's become quite a spectacle at very little cost.

Disagree with the most of their choices, especially in comparison with pathetic "message movies", identity politics involved big budgeted "entertainment" and openly propagandistic crap Hollywood makes nowadays. And don't forget penises in every second movie, related to anti toxic masculinity trend or something. Movie art became too "dicky".

Thank goodness for Gene he missed the True Crime revolution on tv, podcasts and more movies. That's a tough assessment of Silence. And of course it swept the Oscars.
