Thank you! I only use the recordings from the transmitters and never use the receiver (at least not yet) and have been having an awful time with the levels peaking and couldn't figure out how to lower the sensitivity. I just now turned on PAD and hopefully it will solve my issues going forward.

@@GaryDmedia it was still bad. I have peaking like crazy with it about a foot from my mouth. It's fine for normal speaking, but doing high energy announcing, I'm blowing this thing out. The worst part is that you don't know what you've got until playback which you can't do until you export. I'm sure if I get it farther away I'll be fine but it's definitely an experimental process. Maybe if I use the windscreen.
@taghappytv
@taghappytv 2 жыл бұрын
@@dandyfunhouse I have been in contact with Rode regarding this issue as I find the input signal very sensitive. In short, they said Pad only drops the input sensitivity by -4db. What's unfortunate is if the audio clips on the way in any sort of safety track or low gain setting on the receiver or camera is void as the clipping is already in the pipe line. Rode said they'll pass the feed back on however I wouldn't hold my breath as to whether they'll impliment gain control at the transmitter level. The only way around this it to use a Pad attenuator between the mic and transmitter to pull back the gain. This is a shame as this issue alone completely ruins a great product. Who wants to risk clipping audio.
@DandyDoesIt
@DandyDoesIt 2 жыл бұрын
@@taghappytv Thank you for digging into this. I have recently added the rode go lav mic with excellent results and exporting in 32 bit float instead of mp3 has appeared to have cleared up the issue. But I have only done one project since making these changes. It may simply be the 32 bit float export solving the issue but the lav mic sounds so good I'm hesitant to bother doing anything else. I'm not seeing any reason to record to the camera at all these days unless shooting from a great distance which I never do

Thanks for the video. I have a set myself. I was wondering what DB recording level the transmitters are on themselves? For example, I turn a transmitter on and have it record a speaker at a wedding with a Rode lapel mic. Does it have a default bit / DB recording level? Or does it reflect the receivers setting (which can change), even though in this example is it still turned off? Thanks in advance. In short, can I strap a lapel microphone to a speaker at a wedding and have it recording cleanly with out clipping? Thanks in advance.

Tag Happy, in the WG2 settings be sure to adjust the TX so that it has full gain. That is, don’t switch on the PAD. Even at full input gain you would have to yell into it or sing very loudly to distort the input. Adjustment of the RX gain only adjusts the output going to the camera.

Then the pad function and the gain control (fine or coarse) work together? Usually I record to an iPhone through the audio monitor of an Zoom H5 - it is true clipping on the Rode side must be omitted by all means. It is easy to control clipping on the Zoom H5 but I am not sure what is best practice on the Rode setup. You taught me how to use the Zoom H5.

Hi Gary, I've just purchased these myself and I have 2 questions: 1) when recording on the internal memory just using one of the TX untis, the volume is very low. Is that normal? Can I just raise it in post production? 2)I did some tests and recording with my phone (as it cannot record with an external mic) AND with the TX as a backup, I just don't manage to align them in my video app (which is Davinci as an example). As if the timestamps were off. I tried 'align using waveform' too but it does not sync. Any idea what am I missing?
@GaryDmedia
@GaryDmedia 2 жыл бұрын
Hello Zotmund, yes I have found the recording is low but because there is little background hiss you can raise in post. Just check that you have not selected MP3 for your TX recordings. MP3 is not a reliable time code for aligning with video. If this is not the case, you will have to align with setting markers.

When the transmitter is switched to always on, you have to use an app to access the function switch. No physical switch will do it. The always on recording stops when the transmitter is completely switched off. There is no indication other than the screen going blank.

Why is only uncompressed recording available when choosing Backup recording "Always" 7:44 (that starts automatically when the transmitter is powered on)? That makes no sense to me that we can only choose the recoding that lasts the shortest time when we chose "always" that will naturally record much more than the other option. Is there some technical limitation to this or what gives?

The recording in merged setting records to a single mono file. That is, 2 channels, left and right with the same mixed recording. In stereo, you will get a single stereo file with one mic recorded to the left channel and the other to the right channel. Hope that helps.

Hello Gary - we corresponded months ago right after my purchase of W-Go II and you and your tutorials were/are very helpful (and generous replying here on Comments all the way between Australia and Canada time zones!). Q: (on iphone 6 & 8 with analogue cord) I have my receiver Gain Mode and Gain set at Course and High, but an outdoor shoot this morning (Rode Lav Mic, very little wind) was a little at the top end close to distortion at moments. If I adjust to 'Mid' Gain will that give me less Mic input recording levels? I tend to project a little too much and have to remember I'm not teaching in a classroom (I lead seminars 4 times a yr for my RMT Peeps). Btw I'm also employing FilMic Pro by your lead! Photography hobby background is helping accelerate that learning - I botched some of this morning's focus as I should have locked it in 🙄). Appreciate your time very much - John.

John, so good to hear from you again. Totally understand the projection issue. It’s hard to get into your mind you don’t need to speak to the back of the class. The latest firmware update added the option to add an input gain PAD. This is the instructions from the website: “To activate the pad, simply toggle the 'Pad' button in RØDE Central. You can also activate the pad from the receiver by selecting the transmitter using the pair button (‘∞‘), followed by a long press on the ‘dB’ button. Note: a short press will activate the mute function, so take care to hold the button until the pad symbol appears on the receiver display.” I think that will help lower the sensitivity of the lav mic. Lowering the output of the receiver will not fix distortion caused by high input into the transmitter. If that isn’t enough you could fit your mic under your shirt fabric. Hope that helps.

I recently bought them and had a bad surprise while started using them. Please advice me with the right settings. So I use them with my iPhone for video recording along with the recommended lightning USBC Cable. As the plan was to record one person as the subject I used only one of the transmitters and so the other transmitter was not powered on and stored away. Finally When I played a recorded video the sound was fine with my phone and Mac. When I connected my AirPods to watch the same video i noticed that the recorded sound of the video was in mono ☹️. When I extracted the original sound file and analysed using audacity it confirmed me that the sound was mono and not stereo. ☹️ what must I do in the settings to avoid this ? Must I always use both the transmitters ? If I use one what must I change in the settings to have the setero sound file ? Please help

Radj, I presume you are hoping to record only to one channel and not merged to both left and right channels. In the settings using Rode Central you have to make sure that the merged selection is not selected on the receiver. Hope that helps.

Yeah WoW Garry great Video, and yep, coz of this one. I love our GOii's BUT.... I wanted to record so abience at a shoot at a couple of the waterfalls and both mics turned on, with Lavs connected thinking they would record to themselves without being connected to the receiver. They are (all) on the latest firmware and set to "Always" but they (both) failed to record! perhaps they need to be connected to the receiver (seems ODD)...testing needed...Thanks for your videos, I'll start looking at more of your content.

Peter that is weird. Sorry to hear you have had trouble with yours. You may find a dedicated recorder like the zoom H1 pro would be a good investment for tasks like that. Much more versatile and good visual Monitoring ability.

Hello, I've been using Rode Wireless Go II for a few years and it's been great. But when I used it for a party event last week, no audio was recorded. I constantly checked the audio level on the receiver and it seemed to recording audio from a mic.I used a camera to record the video. But when I played the video, there was no audio and I heard a lot of hissing noise. I went to Rode Wireless Go app and I plugged it in to my laptop but it didn't show any recording. Does this mean that it didn't record any audio at all? I really appreciate your help. Thank you.

Hi, Thank you for a great video :) My question is, can you delete a specific recording on the Røde transmitter? I see only the one 'delete all' option on the settings page in the Røde Control app. And another query, is there any editing program you would like to recommend working with Røde products? Thank you :)
@GaryDmedia
@GaryDmedia 3 жыл бұрын
No at this stage there is no other way to individuality delete single files. Don’t worry because the system will record over the oldest recordings first. Future updates may allow more control. Even the free program Audacity is adequate to edit the files. The files can be imported into your video editing program and edited there as well. What program or app do you use to edit your videos?

Thanks for the tutorial mate! Question I have is my transmitters are not recording internal audio for some reason. I have them set to always record but when I plug them into the Rode Central app it says no audio recordings available. Any idea whats going on? Potential bug?
@GaryDmedia

The first thing I would do is download the latest firmware and update both the receiver and transmitters. If there was a hardware fault it would only be with one transmitter I would think.

Hello Gary :) for some reason my Rode Wireless Go 11 when I connect them to Rode Central the recording in the settings doesn't come up. Just got backlight etc., Did some videoing on weekend using it and there were no recording when I added them to Rode Central. Any ideas why my Central won't allow me to backup recording? Kind regards Mark

A few questions: 1. How do I export all the audio at once? 2. How do I export the Timecode metadata to text file? 3. how do you autoname the files by date time and seconds created? If you can't do it these features would be useful to have in the rode central software.
@GaryDmedia
@GaryDmedia 2 жыл бұрын
Great questions Clarke, future updates may give the option to select individual files or multiple files for deleting and exporting. At this stage it is not available. There is no usable sync timecode with the file apart from the time the file started to be recorded. No way to export this time with file. There is no option yet to adjust file naming method. Just have to wait I think Clarke. I’m looking forward to an app maybe to manage this from my phone.

Hello Gary, I like this in-depth video! Here is a serious question before potential purchase: in a live interview session if I give person A and B each one transmitter, and use the live monitoring signal from 3.5mm output of the receiver as stereo audio track, then in the live stream will I hear A on the left B on the right (which is quite painful), or will I hear both person mixed to the central position, each person's voice being duplicated to left and right channel?
@GaryDmedia

Yes Reno Yeh, you can setup the system to work like that. You can also set it up to separate each microphone and send to left and right. Mono mode is the blended setting.

Hi Ryan. More than likely it's clipping at the transmitter end. If so, a Pad attenuator between the mic and transmitter will probably resolve the issue.
