The RODECaster Pro II will be officially released next week, so in the meantime I thought it’d be fun to use it for a livestream where I can answer as many questions about it as possible and explore it in real-time with you.
*I am using beta firmware in this stream, so while the audio quality is what you can expect, some of the visuals/interface might be different when the official firmware is released.

I've been getting well acquainted with a Rodecaster Pro 2 for producing a weakly community radio show and I'm largely very impressed by the unit and its user friendly work flow. Its easy computer integration is outstanding but I'm wanting to be able to actually produce ou radio shows with a nice relaxed live feel without ever having to switch on a computer. This is where Rode could continue improving things and here's my wish list if anyone from Rode reads this 1) Allow much easier adjustment of trim start and end points, fade in and outs as well as basic copy and paste and normalising in the waveform window for the smart pads and waveform window with the same easily accessible editing features for audio tracks stored on an SD card or USB flash drive in the unit itself. Currently it's an absolute PITA to easily trim and fade clips for the smart pads, despite online tutorials from Rode making it look easy! It's NOT easy for those of us to with fat fingers! Rode please fix this. 2) Improve the touch keyboard for naming smart pads and shows by allowing caps lock to remain on for those of us with bad eyesight who like to use CAPITAL LETTERS for naming things. Whilst your at it, please allow us to rename our recorded files on the SD card or USB flash drive without requiring a computer to do so. 3) Built in adjustable normalisation for those who want to create a master file for broadcast. In my case, the station requires that the master file is named in their preferred fashion and normalised to - 3db. 3) Allowing non Rode usb mics to be added such as my much loved Blue Yeti. Thanks for your excellent video guys. Keep up the work!

How's the Stereo audio quality on this new device, the V-1 was not great considering it killed all the dynamics and sounded very muffled (stereo audio / music) using its average average pre-amps. Could you kindly compare both by sending the same signal to both? this is vital for radio shows and music streamers.

Have you had any issues with the RODE Central MacOS app and the Pro II? I’ve had a bunch of weird issues trying to get it into transfer mode - app just spins and doesn’t connect. Also issues when loading the sound pads - trying to replace sounds I already loaded. Seems like bugs in the app or firmware, etc…. General bugginess.

I received my RCP II yesterday and I can confirm the stereo audio has been marginally improved... one thing you have to do though is to disable any processing to get the best sound quality... not forgetting (and most importantly) to disable THE MASTER PROCESS... I know most would miss that. Mic and other input audio processing can remain if anyone wish to have these process included on specific channel... Two things however are still unclear... 1- I've noticed connecting iPhone to record the sound coming out of the RCP II seems to result on a poor quality sound (Using USB-C Type 2 as per instructed) I am not sure if I'm doing anything wrong or I need their specific Rode Cable (currently just using original iPhone USB-C to Lightning) 2- The Multitrack on the computer are very confusing as you get all the channels with numbers (not as per the way they were customised on the device... Eg... Chanel 1...2..3 etc) Other than this, I have to admit they nailed it... a dream device with multiple functionalities.

I have found a fundamental flaw in the rodecaster II . My Wifi Pasword has This CHARACTER in it ^ (above the 6 key) the rodecaster does not seem to have that, which essentially means I cannot connect it wirelessly. and Also for a new device it only connects at 2.4HGZ and not 5 GHZ which most modern Routers use these days.
@tombuck
@tombuck 2 жыл бұрын
Oof, that's frustrating. Probably not the answer you want, but I'm sure they'll address that in a firmware update pretty quickly (it has to be a simple fix, right?). I think we've gotten 3 firmware updates in the past week, so they seem to be pretty on top of things.

Great content covered so much stuff. When you get time I would like to see how to use multitrack in Audition, especially if playback is better than it currently is with version 1 of the rodecaster. I'm using Windows so there could be a difference, but changing audio setup to hear recorded vocal track when using USB as an input is a bit of a workflow blocker.

Hi Tom and Heather - another awesome podcast. Looking forward to getting our ProCaster 2 in a few days. What cable would you recommend I use to connect RCP1 output to appear on a channel in RCP2? We are planning on running live commentary from a sports match on RCP2 while we hook up live to reporters using the RCP1, so that we can patch them through once we have got them "on the line" and ready to go. The thought behind this of course is that we don't interfere with the live commentary by gathering all the media together on RCP1 and then patching them through onto one of the inputs on RCP2 for the commentators to go "round the grounds" to input reporters into the programmes. I hope I've described that so you understand. Your help would be so appreciated as always. Cheers, The mp team
@tombuck
@tombuck 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the kind words! There's no "official" method to connect two RCP's, but you can run a line either from the monitor outputs or a headphone output into one of the XLR inputs. IF you're using the RCP1, I would just get a 1/4" cable and run it from one of the headphone outputs into one of the combo inputs. The monitor outputs might give a cleaner signal, in which case you could use a "y" cable that has two 1/4" plugs on one end and a single one on the other.

Greetings, you two are so good, thank you! I am a solo singer songwriter and I loved my RodeCaster pro for my Whispers podcast, but I want more, and this new RCP II which I have pre-ordered and looking forward to have in my studio sounds as though it will take care of all my studio work. Question: Can the smart pads be programmed to harmonize your own voice, or make your voice sound as though you have chorus or choirs, as in a voice harmonizing pedal? Thank you, sheila
@tombuck
@tombuck 2 жыл бұрын
Hey Sheila! Currently there aren't any harmonizing options for the SMART Pads, but seeing how Rode really seems to be pushing the music-related features of this, it wouldn't surprised me to see some pretty cool updates in the future. That's all speculation on my part, but I'm excited about it.
@funknflow
@funknflow 2 жыл бұрын
The RCPII now desperately needs custom mixes that can be assigned to the headphone outputs. With the removal of the TRRS jack, there's literally no way to get an analog mix minus out of this board. I've been talking with their customer support to plead my case so that it can be added in a firmware update.

Probably a dumb question but here we go. Bought the RCP2. Simultaneously starting to hate "in face" and "boomed" microphones. I just lack mic discipline when getting animated. Could I use something like the Deity pocket wireless as my primary mic in the RCP2 while reaping the benefits of "set it and forget it" mic discipline/placement?
@tombuck
@tombuck 2 жыл бұрын
Not a dumb question at all! In fact, I'm working on a video all about lav mics right now. You can definitely use them with either RCP. The only downside is keeping track of batteries and making sure they're charged. I've also really been loving my Sennheiser MKH50 as an out of frame mic. Some less expensive alternatives to that would be the Rode NTG5 or Videomic NTG.

I got my Rodecaster Pro II a few days ago, and I'm going crazy. One use case for me is using it in live online meetings. Mic and Headphones are connected to the RC, which in turn is connected to the computer with USB. Now I'm hearing my own voice all the time in headphones and can find no option to change this. I want to hear the other people, and I want them to hear me, but I don't want to hear myself.
@tombuck

Hearing yourself is pretty standard in in mixers like this, but if yo udon't like it and your headphones are connected to output 1, you can press the green Listen button on channels that you DO want to hear and then you'll only hear those (but it won't affect what goes out to the final mix).

I disagree with the transfer speed. Now this could be because I need a faster card as I am using the one out of my RCP1. but trying to export an hour podcast as a wav file is taking forever! I waited an hour and it was not even half done. I restarted it a couple times and same result. I changed it to MP3 it has been 45 min and it just hit past the halfway point. I like to export in WAV because it is the raw uncompressed file and then I edit it. The final result will be MP3 as that is what my podcast host will convert it to which will add compression I do not want. At this point my RCP1 was faster. Again it could be I need a faster micro sd which I will be getting.

Wondering if this is a good to start with for someone who has no experience in podcast / dabbles in vlogging etc. I bought 2 other audio mixer but after watching your post thinking of returning both of them. i have to make a decision soon as my amazon return window is closing in. Also if i got rode ii i also have to get mics and cables. I have a you tube channel but havent done much with it. Related advise would be helpful...thanks in advance.

It's always tough to say for sure without knowing your exact workflow, but if you want the most features with plenty of room to grow, then the Rodecaster is the way to go. If you're just looking for a simple interface with maybe a few basic effects, then something like the Vocaster Two might be a good choice. I love the RCP, and if you've got the budget for it, it's outstanding.

In general, dynamic mics are a bit better at rejecting noise than condenser mics, but I haven't found them to be a magic bullet or anything. The absolute biggest difference is to sound treat your space as good as possible (not as exciting as a new mic, but really important).

The biggest difference is what they're designed for. Most Yamaha mixers are terrific, but they're designed for music/instruments. The RCP is designed for spoken word so it has more built in gain/cleaner preamps.

Brilliant video👏I have a question…normally I connect my shure sm7b to a Dbx 286s and then I connect its output to my old zoom podtrak p4 so now I bought the Rode caster pro 2 so is it possible to connect them together?
@tombuck
@tombuck 2 жыл бұрын
It depends on what your goal is I think. If you're looking to use the P4 to add extra inputs, then you can still run the outputs of one into the inputs of the other. If you're using the DBX as a booster/processor, you won't need it anymore with the RCP2. As wonderful as it is, any booster will degrade the audio quality- next week's video will be all about this!

I'm wondering why this Expensive RodeCaster Pro II doesn't have any kind of Music channel, Game Channel, and other digital audio channels similar to the GoXLR. I have a goXLR mini, but I would need that functionality prior to buying one. The one piece of revolutionary functionality RodeCaster Pro II has is the dual PC connectivity though. That would solve my Work PC connection. I plan on connecting this to 2 separate PC's so that only allows me 2 channels per PC. Kind of disappointing.
