Here’s my initial RODECaster Pro II review and walkthrough with as many features and samples as I could reasonably fit into one video. It’s an incredible tool!
*Very important to remember that I am using beta firmware in this video, so while the audio quality is what you can expect, some of the visuals/interface might be different from the official firmware, which has now had several updates (don't worry though, it's only gotten better).

All of your tutorials are very good for us! Maybe you are not doing a special thing to make your content accessible; but you are touching/defining all details with your words! We are listening them like an audio description! Thanks so much!

Oh wow, thank you, this is really great to know! I try to be sure to add hand-done captions so that the videos can be a bit more accessible (and I'm sure you know that auto-generated captions are far from perfect...but sometimes hilarious). Please let me know if there are any other ideas for making things more accessible.

Hahaa! Love the vid! Yeah, still here watching (responding to that question after the effects part on pitch) Realizing it's more like an audio interface with built in sound card effects like the V8 soundcard, K1 soundcard, or even has the ability that the Maono lite and Maono Pro has before. (ALL IN ONE) 1st.. You can now connect to a smartphone to use it as a soundcard device for streaming apps via usb-c (a problem I encountered on why the one on the RC 1 can't connect to smartphone.. so maybe it doesn't have that ability) now I can use my xlr mics straight to RC2 then connect to smartphone rather than what I usually do (I connect my mic to RC1 then ouput the headphones port to the Maonocaster in the mic port only so that I could use livestream on my phone (so many headphone speaker output ports on RC 1 which is still amazing btw since you can get to play around with it 4 on top, then 1 on the bottom) plus you also have the ability to output the left and right to speakers. 2nd.. you have the ability to change voices and pitch (though I haven't seen yet if you can make your voice sound like a female.. mostly it is what is usually seen on soundcards, a. High, b. Tiny, c. Low, d. Robot, then options for male and female voices) ...since it also has great preamps and clean output.. there isn't actually a need for the denoiser since I don't hear much of the environment or air noise.. though I think if you want to hear the sounds of the birds chirping or record the car horns or dog barks.. maybe just need to turn up the gain? So far things I haven't seen that may be a great addition is a like a fader for music, sometimes called side chain? I think it has you showed it in your vid.. but not that sure... it's like used in radio stations.. it's when you play music like a dj or radio... then when you talk to the mic the music will lower it's volume then when you stop talking the talking the musics volume will turn up again automatically. [Ok!! Saw it in the comments DUCKING Feature] Hmmm. There is also some frature though not that important. But some Livestreamers use it.. its like a karaoke mode.. where it takes out vocals on songs where there are no instrumental as for the moment so that you can make it like an instrumental you can sing with. 😀 3rd.. love that they changed the input ports to a hybrid combo.. than just an xlr.. though it doesn't have that lock anymore like the previous version.. (I tried to buy an adapter for xlr to 3.5mm or 6.5mm in order to plug an instrument but maybe it's just the one I bought.. but it's noisy or somewhat grounded so I eneded up not using it at all.. (but I did manage to plug my intrument (piano₱ with a cord of 6.5mm to 3 5mm then connect it to the 3.5mm(mobile phone icon) in rodecaster pro 1 and got to record it like that but yeah.. it kinda was not a reg setup. Haha!! But then just used the bluetooth function for my Smartphone. 4th... the great thing abt this all in one setup is that it's really like an all in one and features more advanced than before (you don't need to access the app onto the computer anymore unlike th RC1.. in the RC2 you can customize in right there and then) Ok will continue on watching again. Haha!! Just had to make a quick stop reply on still here watching. 😀
@cjpreyes
@cjpreyes 2 жыл бұрын
Yey! Finished the video! Love the instrument parts. Though that means we can now connect the guitar soundbox too straight up to the RC2 or like an old school type use a mixer.. (I even did try to use bothe the scarlet focusrite to incorporate the instruments and connect the RC to focusrite since I'm not sure it can do vice versa but yeah.. there was delay issues I do hope they still get firmware updates an included a reverb to the RC1. They had it as a beta version before.. did actually removed the latest update and gone with their old beta update with the reverb. And it works amazing! Especially if we had to record for singing... but ofcourse since its an old beta version... it had alot of features not accessible.. plus I don't think when plugged to the computer you can hear the reverb effect (I'm bot that sure anymore since I never used it again like that but just used the maono) Anyways!! This really is amazing! Haven't used my RC1 for literally months due to work.. maybe would sell it and some of my soundcards and just but this one for a minimal setup.. or just what you said.. it's still great... and maybe I don't need the new one since I do get to use only some features from it.. I haven't even scratched the surface of the 1st gen yet.. but I do have a messy and complicated setup since its not an all in one type of gear unlike the gen 2. Thanks alot Tom.. felt like I haven't watched your vids from some time now.. Have to do some catching up again. Continue on what you do great! Positivity and motivation! It helps alot! God bless! 😊🤗👏🏻💯

@@cjpreyes Thank you! From what I understand with reverb on the original, it just didn't have the processing power to handle it reliably and Rode is very big on not releasing anything that isn't reliable. The RCPII literally has what is essential a computer processor inside and can handle so much more with a lot of reliability and ease.

Thx Tom. Well done. A small note - the fixed line level out on the monitor channels (L and R) was also a feature on RCP1. That’s mostly for those of us using the Monitor as line out into, say, a streaming computer or appliance (instead of using a USB channel to connect). I also think a lot of us will get RCP2 and keep RCP1 as a sub mixer for additional channels into RCP2.

A couple things I wanted to mention: 1. I'm eagerly waiting for more in-depth videos, particularly around streaming use cases involving audio routing. 2. I hope theres a color blind mode as I'm red-green color blind and I couldn't tell when the monitor icon was red or green. 3, The price is $100 more, but you also save ~$100 by not having to use a lifter. 100% worth it in my book.

@Panyman555
@Panyman555 2 жыл бұрын
@@joshuadelaughter7968 I already have a focusrite so nice question! For me it’s just the versatility of the system. I like the notion of being able to record a without a computer on a very substantial desk. The Zoom H6 is great but sometimes you want more granular controls. Most 4input interfaces have only 2 headphone outputs and this has 4 which is pretty nice. The smart control pads are great and I can’t wait to play around and see what shortcuts I can create within Logic and Ableton. I do podcasts which is why I’m excited for this. The rodecastr pro 1 was great. But personally I couldn’t justify the price when the pre-amps weren’t good and also it only took XLR. When I buy gear, I want it to be able to do as much as possible and maximise my usage out of it. That’s why this Rodecastr Pro 2 is something I’ll be getting since I won’t be having it as “simply my podcast machine” but rather my hub for everything. Thanks for asking!

This video just makes me want it earlier… You make great video/audio tech videos with just the right amount of humor and cringy word plays. Thank you! (And yeah, my wallet hates you)

Hi, I got the Rodecaster Pro ll today and I am actually shocked at how easy it is to use with all of its functions and features, Incredibly intuitive setup. I have 4 x NT1a mics, 4 x Podmics and 4 x Podcaster mics so plenty to play with. I also bought 4 VXLR pro adapters so I can now use my sets of Wireless Go's and Wireless Go ll sets as an option. Just wondering what are your preferred settings for the Podmics that work for you?

Tom - great review! Questions….. is it class compliant as a windows device? Do I “HAVE”to install drivers or can I connect via usb and windows will just auto seen the L/R inputs into the computer? If you add delay on the outputs, is that “assignable” or is is global?

Any tips on raising audio levels in the Rode Caster Pro when recording to SD card? When I record on the RCP then take the files from the SD card and import to Premiere the file is just a straight line and the audio is very low. I have to raise the audio gain by like 20 to see the levels finally come alive and get good sound levels. It's not a huge deal and it sounds great once I do that but figured there has to be a way to get that level directly from the RCP. I've played with a ton of settings, phantom on and off, sensitivity, gains, etc. I'm using the EV RE20
@tombuck
@tombuck Жыл бұрын
Normally I would say that there's should be no difference in the levels you record vs. the levels it exports, but recently I've noticed my files also seem to be quieter than I had the levels set. This is new, and I'm thinking it might have something to do with new firmware? The best thing for both of us to do is let Rode know and hope they address it somehow.

@@tombuck Its really weird, I record into the RCP on SD, but it also goes to the PC so I double up the recording in Adobe Audition as a back up. AA spikes like crazy and the recording on the SD from the DCP is so low but sounds much better once I adjust the gain in Premiere. Thanks for the reply!

I would vote for RCP2 alone, if for no other reason than not using boosters removes potential points of failure (more cables + more gear = more opportunities for problems).

2 questions. Do you recommend a CloudLifter or other with the Shure SM7B with the Rodecaster Pro II? As I push up the Rode's gain for the mic I'm getting a bunch of background noise - want to know if a CloudLifter or something else will help with this issue. The second question - in some videos where you use the Rode Procaster - are you using the official Rode shockmount?
@tombuck
@tombuck 2 жыл бұрын
With the RCP2 any booster will make the signal noise (I've tested this and am working on a video about it- it's true). You can try fine-tuning the noise gate if you're noticing background noise. I've been getting great results with the SM7B at around 58dB of gain and/or using the preset. 👍 The shock mount is the old one from the NT1- I don't think Rode makes it anymore.

This is s a fantastic walk-through! I think they've changed enough for me to purchase the Rodecaster Pro 2, I like so much about it, the default settings idea, the multiple record options, mic settings and so on. It means I can move on from my Soundcraft MK12, which has been a great mixer, and possibly the Focusrite Scarlett 2i2, if I can rejig my set-up... not sure though that it'll replace my DBX286s, 215s and 166xs, time will tell - but I think I'm getting one! Hi Tom Buck, I love the work that you are doing. There was an incident in San Francisco, where a photographer while working on a wedding was beaten by two-armed gunmen and pistol-whipped. This photographer never let go of his camera gear and unfortunately, he took a beating. Two photography channels offered up a challenge for the Community with Channels to speak up on the safety and awareness of photographers and videographers alike. You are such a Photographer and Videographer. The two channels that are talking about this and offering this challenge are Vahagraphy and 247 Media Group. If you get time out of your busy schedule, check this out starting with Vahagraphy, who brought this out to the community on his channel and please make some noise about this on your channel as well as it threatens our art and it is often forgotten!!!

I’m so happy the videos have been helpful! Gear can definitely be overwhelming, but I do think it’s important to take it one step at a time and then get something new or upgrade something once your specific needs become apparent.
