The recorder + clavecimbel combination is so beautiful!!! Add a violin and a bassoon and you most likely have a winning team!!!

Lovely music and touching video. Franz Bruggen is the best recorder player of the recording era and is still unparalleled today.

The recorder was considered a "real" instrument in the 18th century. It was used in Bach Cantatas, in two of the Brandenburg Concerti, and of course many pieces of solo and chamber music by Telemann (among many other composers during that era.)

I do not seem to be able to find the music for this though I have looked at my opus 1, 4, 8 and 13 collections. Can anyone help me? Is this recording an arrangement of one of the cello sonatas?

@@ReindeVries Thank you Rien, Like op 4, op 8 has 6 sonatas for violin and the other six are for violoncello; I only had the cello sonatas! I am studying quite a few sonatas of this era and from the lowlands such as Hellendaal and Kleyn etc. Wonderful music and deserving of more attention.

JWOCRC I see that Frans here is using a beautiful original recirder and that's very hard to play. Frans iis ven as me who knows how toplay fromout the expression of the peace. Most of the so called Musical Highschool professionals still are busy with onnly the technique in stead to make and produce art which is much complexer. You have to deal with expression and you need to build everything up through out the expression of the peace. The speed ; the technique everything. The concervatory professionals don't have a clue what you are talking about. Really tragical. I can't play together with them , because they on;ly want to make themselves in the centre in stead of humblize themself for the peace and the expression of the ppeace they are playing. Frans is oplaying very well here.

+Jan Prins I'm not certain but that looks more like a handmade modern recorder by Hans Coolsma than an original: pitch is baroque A415 though. I agree with what you say about the difference between art and technical skill: there are players who seem to think that playing really fast is the most important thing; they are technically very skilled but often lose the beauty of the melody and the rhythm of a piece due to speed. however, i think there is no need to worry - there seem to be quite a few young (and not so young) players who perform to a higher level of virtuosity than ever, and match Bruggen's exquisite playing. Thanks to youtube many people who would have dismissed the recorder in the past now know of its beauty and versatility.
@davidmdyer8383 жыл бұрын
Probably not a historical recorder, before he used them, probably Coolsma 440, and certainly not a historical harpsichord.

There was a lot of criticism of Bruggen for his use of vibrato. He used vibrato the same way I always have on the oboe, that is, from the diaphragm. It takes years of practice to get this right. Violinists and sopranos take note, the amount of vibrato you mob use is deplorable. It is easy to waggle your fingers or flutter your throat like a nanny-goat. Try controlled vibrato from the diaphragm. You have to learn speed and depth and be able to control both, and also to play without vibrato. Note Bruggen's very last note in this piece. THAT is good vibrato!
