Rodney Dangerfield

6 жыл бұрын

Two nights before the premiere of Caddyshack, Johnny Carson welcomed Rodney Dangerfield to the Tonight Show stage, “My next guest has a lot of things going. He’s starring in a movie which opens nationally Friday, July 25th, called Caddyshack. He’s got a new album out called No Respect. He’s a good friend and a funny man. Would you welcome, Rodney Dangerfield!”
Originally aired July 23, 1980 on the Tonight Show.
0:59 “I checked into a hotel, I asked the bellhop to handle my bag. He started to feel up my wife.”
2:00 “I was a very ugly kid. Everytime my old man wanted to have sex, my mother showed him my picture.”
6:47 “I know I’m getting old. I’m at the age now if I hear someone goes both ways, I figure it’s number one and number two.”

Mr. Dangerfield is funnier than any other comedian I have seen. His jokes are so clever, he leaves just enough time for the audience to grasp what he said, and yet he is so quick to get the next joke out while the audience is nearly done laughing over the previous one. His acts are pure perfection.

@@dickrichard626 His jokes are honed over time and many tests and the clubs. These aren't just pulled out of nowhere. They're carefully crafted, practiced and timed. He worked forever and ever to get a break as a comedian went through so much then his wife died and he gave up everything to support his two kids he didn’t want to abandon them. He had so much love and he was so darn funny. I just loved him and I miss him He also helped so many comedians get their start nobody does that what a great man!!!!♥️

Rodney’s childhood was rough. His father was estranged from the family, his mother was cold. Money was tight but he was a hustler and dealt with things without feeling sorry for himself. He failed at comedy and sold aluminum siding. When he came back to comedy, he found his stride. An amazing man.

I remember reading that Caddyshack was his first movie. He thought he was doing badly while first filming, almost wanting to quit - because he was used to the audience laughing loudly during his live performances, and of course there was none while filming. The cast had to tell him he was hysterical.
