Күн бұрын

In the wake of the outbreak of the Second Sino-Japanese War in July 1937, demand for patriotic songs to boost public and military morale swelled in Japan. Newspapers regularly held competitions calling for submissions from the public of songs and song lyrics. The lyrics for Roei no Uta were chosen in such a fashion, after a contest jointly held by the Tokyo Nichi Nichi Shimbun and Osaka Mainichi Shimbun. The jury, which consisted of luminaries such as the writer Kan Kikuchi and the poet Hakushū Kitahara, awarded Kīchirō Yabūchi's Roei no Uta as the winning entry. The 28-year-old composer Yūji Koseki was chosen to set the lyrics to music.
The song became one of the most famous gunka in Japan, establishing Yūji Koseki at the forefront of Japanese composers of the era. However, after Japan surrendered in 1945, performance or loud exhortation of Roei no Uta and other gunka were prohibited by the U.S. occupation forces.
Lyrics:

I am amazed. Anyone who has ever been to Japan knows the open friendliness of the Japanese towards foreigners. It therefore fascinates me all the more that this people can also be extremely radical-nationalistic. Full of enthusiasm to protect their homeland, even beyond death. The Japanese are the only people for whom I have so much respect.

Hitler and Mussolini may have had fancy cars, ultimate power in their countries, and freed themselves as dictators. But Hirohito lived until 1989 and was BOWED down to by every man, woman, boy, and girl who was willing to fight to the death to preserve his empire. BANZAI!!!!! My Great grandfather served in the IJA during the occupation of the Dutch East Indies from 1942 until the end of the war. He was a Indonesian that was drafted to join the IJA since his territory was controlles by the IJA and not the IJN (Sumatera). Even tho he was most of the time forced to do heavy labour, long hours of marching and even forced to speak Japanese he viewed the Japanesw as very honourable people, Tenno Heika Banzai !

The Imperial soldiers of the Japanese Empire deserve to be honored and respected, same with Italian and German soldiers who fought in World War 2. Only a handful of Axis soldiers engaged in atrocities and most were just following orders by their commanders who are the guilty ones that were tried and punished. If we can't do that then I don't understand why we still celebrate Soviet soldiers who also engaged in wanton atrocities of mass murder and rape. The Soviets raped over 2 million German women in the city of Berlin alone. There were even accounts of rapes of Jewish women at Nazi Death Camps that were liberated by the Soviets. A lot of Eastern Europeans still resent the Soviets since they pretty much occupied Eastern Europe raping and killing their way to Nazi Germany. A lot of Polish people joke that "being rescued by the Soviets is worse than being captured by the Nazis". The Soviet Red Army was literally nicknamed "Stalin's army of rapists". History is not black and white. It is full of ugly shades of grey. War brings out the worst in people. People can't control where they're born or how much propaganda gets indoctrinated into them. This very much applies to almost every soldier in World War 2 especially when referring to the Axis powers and Soviets. While many Soviet soldiers were cruel and brutal there were many who were just following orders and were doing their best. I don't it's fair to judge the ordinary soldiers who engaged in atrocities specifically and were mostly forced to at the behest of orders. I say this as a Korean, over 250,000 Koreans fought in the Imperial Army and most were volunteers, same with over 200,000 Taiwanese who mostly volunteered.
