Roger N Farah is finally joining us in studio to do the business show and dropping serious knowledge. Regardless of your industry or craft, you can learn from this show.
Pops, if you did not know, is a heavy hitter. He just retired as Chairman of the Board of Tiffany & Co., having organized the largest luxury retail sales merger in history, selling the company to LVMH last year. He was President and COO of Ralph Lauren for 15 years, CEO of Venator Inc (which owns all FootLocker brands) for a decade, ran three Department Store chains before that, and was even CEO Saks Fifth Avenue in 1987 at just 33 years old. (Boy do I feel unsuccessful). He graduated from the Wharton School at UPenn in three years while playing both Soccer and Basketball. We're going to be talking about his incredible 50 year career in luxury retailing, and taking your business questions!
*Correction* At one point Roger refers to his old job Woolworth as "losing a billion dollars a year." This is incorrect - it was $100 million per year.

It really makes Matt's use of the F word constantly stick out like a sore thumb. I don't mind cursing but it is sometimes used as a crutch. I love the way some comedians weave the Fbomb in as almost a flow word to make the jokes work together. Great observation.

this podcast was 99% wholesome amazing content, and 1% me realizing what an absolutely ruthless business man Mr. Farah must be/have been. the couple little anecdotes that slipped in about him dominating business meetings through polite machination, terrifying math skills, and a herculean reputation built on sheer work and tireless success made me realize I would *not* *ever* want to be on the other side of a conference table from that man.

"Normal" people don't really understand the amount of hard work, sacrifice, AND luck it takes to get to this level of business. You're basically working 24/7 AND there is a ton of dice rolls that have to roll in your favor if you want to rise up to the top. My own dad rose pretty high in his career (not even close to Roger, but he's done very well) and it takes a toll on you.

I'm first and foremost a car enthusiast, and therefore I generally enjoy almost every podcast TST has done. But, professionally, I found this to be one of the most relevant and best podcasts I've ever listened to - TST or otherwise. I applaud Roger's success, and I'm glad the apple hasn't fallen far from the tree in respect to Matt's spirit and insight. Well recorded and well done.

This was an awesome watch. Having lost my dad years ago, I'd give anything to sit with him now and have a conversation like this with him today (he'd be close to the same age). To have a digital record of it, amazing.

I'm in the same boat. Lost my Dad in Dec 2020 and wish I could have asked him some more meaningful questions. When he got sick I never had the heart to ask those questions; felt like it made it too real that his life was coming to an end. I regret asking a lot of questions. Was nice to see this conversation.

I think no matter how much we try to appreciate and enjoy the company of the ones closest to us, in the end it will always feel like some things were left unsaid, let unfinished. Just the nature of life and death I suppose.

@@robertsixto6320 Yeah that’s definitely the reality of it. My dad had cancer and was relatively fine for a few years until his last 5 weeks or so when everything just fell apart. Due to covid none of us were allowed to visit him in hospice and he was alone. I had always imagined whenever that time came, we’d be by his side and be talking about his life and remembering good times together. I’ll cut the rambling but I say this for anyone else reading - say what you want to say now while you can. There’s no guarantee you’ll get to ask a question or tell your loved ones how much you appreciate them in the future. Sorry for your loss as well Robert.

@@sgfreak96 yep, 100% right. PE took mine, so it was pretty sudden. I learned the same, if you feel like saying something, say it, don't wait for the "right time". Sometimes that's more difficult than it sounds, but I try.

I've been working 80 hours a week and feeling burnt out, today was my 1st full day off since March and stumbled across this podcast - so glad I did. I respect all the hard workers in world, at any level, but so enjoyable to hear from a guy who climbed his way to the top. Thanks for this!

I am so thankful for TST, on days like this. I've had a really hard year - and TST has really been a relaxing thing that's taught me so much. Having finished watching, he didn't vape. But he did mention taking his parent to the grow facility! I'm happy to see Matt's character around his dad is exactly like he presents in other interviews which shows he is genuine. Really enjoyed this conversation.

Lots of people like to make comments about Matt like how privileged he is and he’s nothing but a rich kid born into wealth and all that hater talk and stuff. Watching this episode and how humble Roger is really solidified my opinion that Matt isn’t a out-of-touch snotty rich kid. Matt may have been more fortunate than others but Roger certainly didn’t give handouts. Everything Matt has is very well earned. The Farah family has been a hard working family and I have MAD respect for Roger.

I am a full-hearted car guy and soon-to-be engineering grad with little interest in business and yet this is my favorite episode I've listened to. Roger's words were inspiring and just from this 1.5 hour long conversation I have so much respect for him and learned a lot. This was great, I'd absolutely love to hear from him again. At first, I thought I didn't care about listening to Matt's dad talk business. But when Roger started talking, I was hooked. What a cool guy. Matt, join GTOAA and POCI to help find a proper GTO. Many tech advisors in both clubs to help vet potential cars. Also, before buying a 72 GTO, order the factory documents from Pontiac Historic Services on the car - this will show you if the car is a REAL GTO (or fake) and how the car was optioned from the factory. Also, the 71 had the same hood as the 72. 70 was the final year for the smaller hood scoops. I'm a 70 guy.

That was fantastic! Great questions from Matt, and thoughtful responses from Roger. This was so interesting to hear someone who has had that level of career success recount the highlights of what it took to get there. The question about work/life balance at 51:10 and the response is something we should all try to learn from. And Roger encouraging workers to train themselves is really important and I really respect his views on the importance of training the workforce. He is clearly an excellent communicator and has lots of great experience. Some amazing advice. Thank you for finally doing this show.

Oh man! I absolutely loved listening to this. Needless to say you have a super cool dad. You are free to be yourself with him and he gives you his full support. Getting his sign of approval over your career must mean the world to you. I sought that approval from my dad with everything I did. I miss having long talks with my dad as he sadly died in a car accident. Congratulations Matt on your success and best wishes to your Dad.
