In this interview, Roger Soiset describes his experiences serving as a United States Army infantry officer during the Vietnam War. He recalls his upbringing, education, and military training and recalls his feelings and impressions upon arriving in Vietnam. Soiset describes the day to day living conditions and activities of his unit while in the jungle, including several ambushes they experienced. He recalls losing two fellow soldiers who were killed while trying to outflank an enemy position and the effect this had on other soldiers in the unit. He currently teaches a Vietnam War course that he created at Southern Polytechnic State University (now Kennesaw State University) and comments on the Vietnamese students who have attended his class because their parents would not discuss the war and they wanted to learn about it.
