I thought Moore was, by far, the least masculine of all the Bonds, even Lazenby. He was always able to keep clean (physically and emotionally) in every scene he was in, the antithesis of what Craig did with the role. I would almost call Moore effeminate, in fact. The very least acting of any Bond character, in my estimation. However, following in Connery's footsteps must have been hard, so kudos to him for that.

@BCJ He was from a working class family, his dad was a copper. He served in the army and was hard as nails under the "posh" outside. If you want to see a film with Roger as himself watch The Wild Geese where he goes toe to toe with Richard Burton and Richard Harris. His one liners are the best ever. When the suggestion oif surrendering is mentioned "I'd rather have Whitty treat my heamaroids"

@@JamesMoore-un3cuDefine masculinity. There are accounts of Connery losing his temper with people on set, in public, with his wife. A bully isn't masculine. Moore acted with decorum. @@1who4me In my opinion he was as good as Bond, as Sean Connery. Moore had just a different interpretation and thats good, and important. Imagine, he would just try to ''imitate'' Sean Connery. That would be a catastrophy .. so the only option was: create a new interesting Bond, without breaking the character. And he did well.. Same did Pierce Brosnan. For me, all of those three created very good Bonds. These three are for me ''the best bonds'' , and i dont see a ''number one'' per se. Sean Connery did the same. He read the script, and build up an imagination to it ''how can i interprete this character, written in this script'' ...because you know: also Sean Connery ISNT Bond... Sean Connery also was ''only'' a good actor. And its the job of an good actor, to ''create'' a interpretation of a role, which hopefully is interesting; meaning: makes the audience interested in the character. Thats it. Sure, there are personal tastes.. Sean Connery was a cool Bond... Moore was a more funny Bond (it fitted, because he didnt crossed the line, to be a clown-bond) .. And Brosnan was a pragmatic Bond. All three of them, made believable and interesting Gentleman-Spies, just like Fleming wrote it. In my opinion.

@@PygmalionFaciebat My thoughts exactly. I grew up with Roger Moore as Bond and I have always liked his more suave and funny interpretation of the character. What I really enjoyed about Roger Moore’s portrayal was that he was a suave, smooth, cool bugs bunny. Everything was going to smoothly work out and you weren’t going to get pulled into intense drama. It was escapism; a fun jaunt around the world with a man so cool that absolutely nothing would go wrong. I know that Fleming’s character was much more akin to Timothy Dalton’s portrayal but this is the Bond who entertained me the most.

Connery spent the rest of his life trying to get *away* from being solely associated with Bond, so no. Moore had a lot more humour about it, knowing full well how closely he was associated with the role, he made gags reflecting on it, called his autobiography "My word is my Bond," and spoofing himself in "The Cannonball Run." Still, if you listen to his commentary tracks on the Blu-rays, he clearly hasn't given it that much thought since he left. He admits that there is a lot that he just doesn't remember. Add to that that I've hardly ever seen them together at all, I'd say that they don't really have that much in common at all. They're both actors, and Bond is a role that they've both played. Like fellow 007 Sir Sean Connery, Sir Roger Moore never forgot or dismissed his background/beginnings when he got wealthy and did duties outside of acting in movies or TV (humanitarian and philanthropic et cetera) - nowadays it's celebrities who only look out for their self interests. The world misses them both!.

The Sir Roger Moore Personal Collection went up for auction at the start of October and raised over £1 million. His son Geoffrey was interviewed on TV talking about some of the items and if you did not look at the TV OH how we was his father - it was the VOICE more than anything. I loved Roger as Bond but for his role as Brett Sinclair alongside Tony in The Persuaders Just pure escapism, glamour, sophistication, charm. I could go on 🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿🙏🙏🙏❤️❤️

I grew up watching Sean Connery as Bond, but those were growing more absurd as time went on. Campiness was in full bloom by the time Moore--whom I'd watched for years as Simon Templar, and loved him--I had had enough, and I found the movies too silly to enjoy. I was about twenty years old. And I never liked Bond movies much after that. I had cut them loose until Daniel Craig came along. He's now my favorite Bond, and I'm sure that whoever takes up the mantel next will follow in that vein. But until Craig, there just wasn't much to those movies. Bond did not keep pace with the sensibilities of the times, even in the cinema.

Back in 1979. I was just 6 and here in India (Bangalore), the movie Spy Who Loved Me released in Rex Theatre. Still remember the excitement when the shows opened. The house was full. My parents, my big brother and I waiting for the film to start. Boy, I can never forget that. That was my first ever Bond Film that I saw and I became an instant fan. Happy childhood memories and James Bond go hand in hand. Sean Connery and Roger Moore had a big role to play in that :)

Through the magic of youtube, I get to actually watch this. I think I caught the end credits when this was originally broadcast, and that was disappointing. Not only is Roger Moore a great interview, especially in his heyday, but Dick Cavett always had genuinely interesting questions that produced real answers. Mr. Cavett and Tom Snyder are the only talk show hosts that really delved deep into a person of interest, resulting in something other than mundane answers. Thank you for posting this!
