I love the whole Pink Floyd Experience from the very beginning to where they are now. Of course I wish they were together still. But everything happens the way it does for a reason. Love the creativity. Just absolutely perfect and the work of a group of amazing geniuses.

Do some actual research. Roger is an egomaniacal, greedy, a-hole that very few can deal with. He’s a true liberal as he believes he is always right and to have opposing views makes you wrong. Roger’s solo music is trash where his small sales are from diehard Floyd fans. There are no Fans of Roger’s solo career which is why he plays the Floyd hits to get ppl to show up. On the flip side, the other 3 members of Floyd actually created some decent tunes post Roger. It drives him crazy.

While I agree that Roger's solo work is not as good as what he did with the Floyd, it is nevertheless considerably better than Gilmour's work with the ersatz "Pink Floyd," and the critics agree. Therefore they needed him more than he needed them. Most everything original Gilmour has done since Roger left has been quite bad and mediocre at best. If he didn't constantly re-perform the old Floyd stuff (most of which was written by Roger) he would have nothing of interest to offer.

Funny, haven’t heard any of them getting airtime. What hits were on that album or any of his solo albums? No David G. means no magic. Even using hired pros to replace David, Richard, and Nick shows that Roger writing the lyrics hardly means he created the Pink Floyd hits. He was but a piece of the puzzle and not the biggest piece.

@@johnmiller9219 the wall is a concept album dealing with the war, drugs, abuse, etc. and it gets plenty of airtime. The reality is the songs simply are not good enough to get played. Roger still doesn’t realize writing lyrics is not as important as writing the music. Without David G. writing those infectious riffs Roger is lost once again.

Similar to me as well. I was in love with Gilmore's guitar playing but then I slowly started listening to the lyrics and I was blown away. At first I was disgusted (I was listening to "The Wall") and thought they were racist (I couldn't stop listen to it though). After awhile, I really focused and realized what he was saying was satire (towards his fans and racist idiots). I still thought it was disgusting but still, I couldn't stop seeing the beauty of the music and depth of the lyrics.

I agree entirely. Whilst Ddave Gilmour has exceptional guitar skills and a wonderful voice, his solo stuff and the new Floyd material is a bit hammy. Although I love Sorrow. Roger Waters solo albums are my constant and I listen to them in binges. Even 'The Final Cut'. They are so deep and meaningful. His screams you can really get behind too(in my head)! I recently discovered 'Get Back to Radio' from a B side. It was originally made for Radio Kaos. It is amazing with amazing saxophone from I think Mel Collins. Its available on KZfaq.

The DIvision Bell is a brilliant Album Dude......- there are millions of bands or artists that would give both their arm to write something that good......- listen to Poles Apart.....absolute masterpiece of a song.....

Waters is a bitter man... Take the Gilmore parts out of his music and you got nothing.... Some of the best guitar solos come from Gilmore.... The number 1 song from The Wall was co- written by both and the guitar solo is rated as one of the best of all time..... Waters needs to get over himself.... He’d be nothing without Gilmore.....NOTHING!!

In fact, capitalism has allowed me personally to be quite wealthy, and I am going to keep as much of it for me and my family as I possible can. For that reason, it would be *ridiculous* for me to attack capitalism. If I did not like capitalism, I would not be such an active participant. Roger is a participant to the extreme, and then he bashes it, because it's sexy to be progressive. David wrote very few "riffs." You seem not to understand what a riff is: namely, a musical phrase of varying length around which the rest of the song is built. Think the Stones "Satisfaction," "Jumping Jack Flash," "Brown Sugar," etc.; or Zeppelin's "Black Dog," or Blind Faith's "Had to Cry Today." The Floyd's music was very seldom built around riffs. David's very important contribution came in providing chordal texturing (especially up to and including Meddle) and very fine, liquid ornamental phrasings. Around that same time, and to a greater degree starting with DSOTM, he also provided powerful variations on the song's main themes and dramatic melodic phrasing at moments of musican tension and/or resolution. Even David's few compositions before the breakup weren't really riff-based: "Childhood's End," a fine song, is not built around any particular riff but simply follows the chordal pattern. Not even David's post-Roger pseudo-Pink Floyd stuff is created with riffs. You're confusing dramatic solos with "riffs." "Have a Cigar" is arguably a riff song, but in that case, the riff is Roger's. Your sense of history is also lacking. The Floyd didn't actually go global until Roger took a firm grip of the reins with DSOTM. "Meddle" was great and the beginning of larger success, not only because Roger's input had increased, but also because, at the same time, they still remained a very balanced unit. Up to that point they were still a sort of (excellent) psychedelic specialty band. And let me rewrite your final sentence: If Gilmour hadn't replaced Syd in the Floyd, we would never have heard of him. His harmonic range is extremely limited. He's a prisoner of blues pentatonics, and when he does manage to range beyond them he still never ventures past the diatonic scale of the key he's working in. These limitations didn't matter when he had Rick Wright venturing far beyond pentatonics and diatonics, because that freed him up to work on the atmospherics and textures that so distinguished the first phase of his career and were such an important part of the Floyd sound. When Roger's compositions became more pop-rock oriented (starting with Dark Side), the format required more guitar solos from David, which is actually how he came to be known to the broader public. Ultimately, however, this greater foregrounding of his guitar made his strictly musical limitations more evident. But it also made his head swell, after he'd already carved out a niche as the "quiet one" in a band of generally quiet men. And the rest is history I will add that I am a guitarist myself and lifetime fan of David Gilmour. I'm a mere amateur, but good enough to have played with pros, and I can tell you I have never met a top-notch guitarist who thought very highly of David. I myself loved his work up to and including "Meddle." After that it just becomes formulaic and repetitive. He relies far too often on what I call "slap chords" (where you "slap" the A-shape at various parts on the neck, depending on the key, to give some variation and drama to the chordal and melodic sequence you're playing. I do it all the time myself, but mostly when I don't know what else to when improvising a solo. They can be effective when used sparingly. David uses them far too often for a serious guitarist, lending yet another aspect to Roger's criticism of his laziness. It also demonstrates a lack of musical ideas. I put David's post-Roger ersatz Floyd on the same level as the reconstituted Moody Blues without Mike Pinder. Just not the same band. And without interest.

The US was not very important at the time of its revolution, & France was the most important country in the world. ( its reversed today) ..More over the in France 1% owned all the country, meaning the peasant were destitute & the road to stability very hard,,,but so was staving to death.... The other thing left unmentioned, as far as I can tell (I haven't finished watching the whole interview yet), is that "Ça ira" was itself a popular song at the time of the Revolution. Edith Piaf covered it way back in the 1940s or 50s. And its lyrics are blood-curdling. The title means, basically, "it's going to be all right," but do you know why it's going to be all right? Because they're going to kill the aristocrats! It's right there in the song. I was shocked the first time I heard this. I sympathize with Roger's politics, I think they're very important. But I do wonder if he was fully aware of these implications.

Yes - Roger wrote some great lyrics, but that's almost as far as it went with him. Most of the musicality of the band came from David Gilmour and Richard Wright with Nick Mason's drumming fitting in perfectly to what was required.
