It was the only PF album available at my remote record store in 1985 so i snapped it up. So glad i did. Title track especially and southhampton dock will always will be special to me-so vulnerable. Generations grew up without a father-either physically or emotionally, and Roger spoke for all of us that felt the lack.

This song literally changed my life. I first heard it played at the end of The Wall concert from Berlin, it was aired in my country on the 10th anniversary of tearing down the Berlin Wall. I knew the album version only, and was stunned at this surprising change. And the song was just beautiful. That's how 15 year old me found out that Roger Waters had a solo career. I started to hunt down his records, first I got "Amused to Death", then "Pros and Cons" and both were very impactful on me. But "Radio K.A.O.S."... oh man. This one I hunted down last, and it just blew me away. The music, so... un-Waters'y, the lyrics, so... SO WATERS'y...! And the whole concept of the album, the story... It was just amazing. It got me into learning more about mr Waters. I hunted down "The Final Cut", that Pink Floyd album that no-one was seemingly fond of, and it was too, just beautiful. Re-discovered "Amused to Death" after this, and found it to be one of the deepest, misanthropic record I ever encountered. I have nothing but respect for Roger Waters. And it all started with this song. I know many people hate this album, but for me - it will always be a favorite of mine. Bless You Tube that people uploaded that four-part video accompanying the album, it was impossible for me to see it anywhere back in the early 2000s, now it's just a few clicks away... I really dread the day Roger will leave us. I know I will play this when his time comes... I'm kinda bummed out that I will never meet him and won't have a chance to thank him for all the beautiful music he created.

A little 12 years old fat and humble kid I was back in school, caught in the hands of sick children who enjoyed torturing me everyday, physically and sexually. I felt so frightened and alone, yet I used to sing to myself... "don't worry, the tide is turning". Your music's the reason I came out of that hell alive and still smiling. Thank you, Roger.

No matter how dark, melancholy, or angry Roger Waters/Pink Floyd’s concept albums are - his/their concept albums are always left with a glimmer of hope in the last track. But this song takes the cake. I hope this song will describe the world in the coming years.

I can only imagine how good everything must have felt around the time this was recorded. Depending on when you listened, the Berlin wall had fallen, or Perestroika was at its height, or the Soviet Union had fallen. There must have been a feeling of euphoria and optimism going into the 90's unlike any other period in history. It was the peace to end all peace. Now, looking back on it, it's actually kinda sad, because that period abruptly came to an end. One September morning ruined it for everyone, and now we can look back on this so as to say "Wasn't that 90's optimism a joke." No surprise the 90's was considered the last good decade, considering what followed.
@jeancollins20092 жыл бұрын

90s was the beginning of disillusionment. Cobain with his "I hate myself and want to die", Reznor with his "God is Dead", Manson with his "Rock is dead" and Tool with their "Stinkfist" and other degeneracy. The cheerfulness of the 80s was well and truly gone, setting the stage for the pure insanity of the new millennium.

This song is undoubtedly one of the his best works including Pink Floyd. It is so shame that many fans of Pink Floyd ignored it. The Tide Is Turning has a great sound and lyrics. Moreover, Roger Waters wrote this song after watching Live Aid. So, it is hopeful. When EMI forced him to put an optimistic song as a closing track, he arranged it to put into RADIO KAOS album.
@BenCulture8 жыл бұрын
Agreed, this is a beautiful tune. If any one song could replace "Outside the Wall", this is it, as Roger and his guests did it in Berlin 1990. I don't think EMI, or anybody else, has "forced" Roger Waters to do anything since before _Dark Side of the Moon._ The way I read it, his trusted engineer Nick Griffiths strongly suggested the album needed an uplifting ending, and Roger eventually agreed that was for the best.

I was one of the billion who lit a candle the night of the 1st live aid. The album, Radio K.O.A.S. is more relevant today than ever. The chit chat with the A.I. caller, Billy is funny, but prolly closer today, in 2019, than ever.

The pinnacle of my concert experience. Hearing Roger Waters singing this at the end of his production of The Wall, which was the singular most amazing concert I have ever seen, and my daughter's first. :)

I've got full Roger discography on CD and every time I listen to RADIO KAOS, I feel some kind of hope. I image that some day, someone like Billy turns the tide and changes people. I know it's only a metaphor and fantasy story, but it gives me hope.

I've always loved _Radio KAOS,_ period. This was a beautiful ending, and it stands on its own as a great song. I saw the KAOS concert in Phoenix, and it was brilliant, surreal, frightening, and yet bizarrely funny, as well. Having said that, it's strange how an genius like Roger Waters, who always concieved such revolutionary visual and theatrical concerts . . . made pretty lame videos for his singles. There really isn't one Roger Waters solo video I'd consider "great". The four _Final Cut_ videos were interesting, but the pacing did not match the songs. The _Pros and Cons_ videos were somewhat better (especially "Sexual Revolution"), but never all that good. I sincerely consider this video terrible. Yet he's got such commanding stage presence in concert! I honestly don't get why Roger doesn't make great videos. He once wanted to make a full movie out of _Radio KAOS,_ and that could have been mind-blowing. But whoever concieved and directed this video was not inspired!

It's because he doesn't like making videos, he only does it because he's obligated to by the nature of the business and the audience. There's a good video of him from the amused to death EPK where he talks about it.

But the guy wrote the screenplay to a 95-minute "video" of the entire Pink Floyd version of _The Wall._ Anyway, I will look for that video.

To hear his explanation, he doesn't like video clips because when you package them together somewhere like MTV, they become wallpaper, and any individual merit they had is lost. Something like distributors like spotify have turned audio music into lately. There's too much variety and ease of access to encourage longer attention spans, and it all too easily becomes superficial. I think it's safe to say a standalone film, particularly something as high-concept as The Wall has its own artistic merit beyond that. Anyway, if you like Roger, I'm sure you'll like the interview. It's very him.

I agree entirely. Though, I really want a Radio KAOS movie, its my favorite Waters album

Yeah it's crap but I don't see what's wrong with him singing from a very out of place corporate looking office chair and an embarrassingly over enthusiastic drummer. The anti Cold War/anti Thatcherite sentiments aren't lost however and we get a wink from Rog at the end.

“I used to think the world was flat Rarely threw my hat into the crowd I felt I had used up my quota of yearning Used to look in on the children at night In the glow of their Donald Duck light And frighten myself with the thought of my little ones burning But, oh, oh, oh, the tide is turning The tide is turning Satellite buzzing through the endless night Exclusive to moonshots and world title fights Jesus Christ, imagine what it must be earning Who is the strongest Who is the best Who holds the aces The East Or the West This is the crap our children are learning But oh, oh, oh, the tide is turning Oh, oh, oh, the tide is turning The tide is turning Oh, oh, oh, the tide is turning Now the satellite's confused 'Cause on Saturday night The airwaves were full of compassion and light And his silicon heart Warmed to the sight of a billion candles burning Oh, oh, oh, the tide is turning Oh, oh, oh, the tide is turning The tide is turning Billy I'm not saying that the battle is won But on Saturday night all those kids in the sun Wrested technology's sword from the hand of the war lords Oh, oh, oh, the tide is turning Oh, oh, oh, the tide is turning The tide is turning Sylvester Oh, oh, oh, the tide is turning Oh, oh, oh, the tide is turning Oh, oh, oh, the tide is turning”

I saw Roger Waters live this year in July. He didn’t play this song live, but when my brother, father, and I waited in line outside the stadium, this song played. It was such a good feeling to know this song wasn’t lost to time. They followed it with Amused to Death. I’m a big fan and it was so inviting to hear this before the concert.
