I vaguely remember, as a very young lad, lying on my father's lap,opposite me, my little brother doing the same, listening to Roger in the late hours of the night. I remember the lucid tranquility his voice alongside his music offered. Tonight I listen to his music once more. Twenty years later and the feelings bubble up unharmed and unchanged, I'm still that young lad on that late South African evening. Thank you Roger. I hope young lads around the world continue to listen to your music, maybe, while lying on their pops lap. I love you Dad.

I been a Pink Floyd fan for many years now, from the age of 11... 49 now, I always thought & assumed Dave was the back bone of Pink Floyd, after listening to Roger's solo albums over the years, I now understand most of his work & realise that Roger was infact the back bone of Pink Floyd then, absolute lyrical genius 👏

You're not alone, it amazes me how a lot of PF fans don't understand the dynamics of the band. From DSOTM onwards, these albums were all the ideas & concepts of Roger Waters. He composed most of the music. He wrote all the lyrics. People might not have liked it, but he was right when he said Pink Floyd was finished when he left.
@biancaturner725 Жыл бұрын
you and I have too many similarities to be honest, i was a bit younger but...im now 49 as well. I came to the same realisation about these two lads :)

I have just had the best experience of my life at a show from Roger Waters in This Is Not A Drill Tour. This is just a masterpiece from a legendary musician & the nostalgic journey was something that’ll live forever in my mind. Just an incredible piece of Artistic talent. Pure joy and an emotional experience. 🐖☝️
@chicklets4ever5111 ай бұрын
@@creepingbrain Even before DSOTM, he was the creative director of the band. Once Syd Barrett left, Roger steered the ship. Almost ALL of the best songs before Dark Side are either exclusively Roger's or he had a big hand in them. This includes tender ballads like "Julia Dream" and psychedelic jam numbers like "The Embryo." Without Roger, there would have been no Pink Floyd after Syd. The music produced by Gilmour's revived Floyd after Roger left is proof enough that without Roger, there is no Pink Floyd. David's ersatz Floyd was good enough when it reproduced the old classics live, but all the new material was just terrible.

I was fortunate enough to see him do this live in Philadelphia in '85 when the album came out and Clapton did the tour with him.They played the Whole Pros and Cons Album & I fell in love w/ it. I still own the vinyl and listen to it in it's entirety several times a year. The official videos that came out were pretty bad and don't do justice to the songs, however the imagery the record provokes for me are entertaining, scary, puzzling, sad and funny & all in 42 minutes, courtesy of the genius of Waters and how he brings the story, Vocals, backing vocals, guitar work, horns, spoken word, sound effects etc all in at the right time and in just the right amount to keep you fully engaged as you try to piece together what this tale is about. Hint , best I can figure it's about: love, lust, fidelity, happiness, divorce, despair, joy, hope, confusion, anger, big rigs, diners, old Westerns, dreams, nightmares, hitchhiking, power, insecurity and a whole lot more -- so, it's about being human. Almost 40 years on and It's a fine album still.

He had good teachers, Bob Dylan, John Lennon and Pete Townshend. I was at the live show in 1984 at Maple Leaf Gardens. Roger was 18 years younger back then than I am now. Eric Clapton was on the stage. The sound was everywhere. They turned that crappy hockey rink into a concert hall, and everything was super-entertaining and engaging. Even Welcome to the Machine sounded every bit Floyd without the other three guys. Interesting. And there was humour, as well. Roger even played If that night, a beautiful little acoustic number from Atom Heart Mother. One of the best shows that I have ever seen. Only Elton John and Rush could be considered better, but we are splitting hairs here.

Come posso dirti grazie, Roger? Resto umana!

Roger was the BAD one in the group.He was the one who broke the group up and took the remaining members to court He wrote 'the wall' but it wasnt up to him that the band should be retired when he left. He thought he was the band! The judge said to him that it was Syd! Barrett! who named the group 'not you' ,so the remaining members continued on a successful world tour to which R.W was jealous of.+In 1967 he was 'Supposedly' caught red handed by a band member putting a sugar lump with LSD into Syd Barretts tea 20 mins before they went onstage singing Apples and Oranges on the Pat Boone show.He timed it to perfection that Barrett would start tripping just as they began to sing the song.Roger said! 'ill mime it'.Then after, he was the one who said 'Don't pick Barrett up' when they went to do a gig....He envied Barrett because he couldn't get the girls as well as he did.If it wasn't for Dave Gilmour he would be a retired architect...He wasn't the soul of the band he broke the band up and then wanted to get together again 24 years later.If it wasnt for the death of Rick we would have had a world tour.In 1979 he wanted to sack Rick then fate came and destroyed his dream of a world tour 24-25 years later.Why break up a group who were at the peak of their musical careers just because of an inflated ego and jealousy? He WASNT Pink Floyds soul! he was Pink Floyds death.......But he was a genius in the music field..........If he lived and let live, Pink Floyd would have eclipsed the Beatles 'in my opinion'as the greatest band ever!

Pink Floyd was a great band of course. The Best of the 70's worldwide. After Roger left, Pink Floyd became a band lacking of innovation. If you see the playlist of their concerts, mostly is from the 70's and the band is an orchestra of 20 members with Gilmore doing solos. PF just released a new album like 6 days ago it's called "later years" and is mostly 70s. From 40 years ago their later years. I would call it: their only years. No Waters, no creation.

Roger's soul is poured out in his lyrics, singing and writing. Pink floyd was equally every member's efforts, but roger's specialty is writing lyrics and melodies and damn does he do that well.

As long as there are angsty teens, this music will always have a home and will be a place to return to, years later.

Really touching. Voice, music and landscapes show us the man who works, who brings home his bread with difficulty. In the bars on his routes he finds real people. Roger Waters has always "seen" reality as it is and has transmitted it in music. Life is more acceptable. Thank you so much ❤️

I was a kind of lonely teenager and that womans voice at the beginning of the song used to really break me up. I used to think how great it would be if a nice lady talked to me like that.

Perfect song for both late morning and early night times. Enjoy it every time you feel sad, or happy. There must be at least one reason that make this song undastable.

Timeless classic. This is one of these songs that you feel is a part of you. I’m 37 and remember mum n dad having friends over for sing songs and drinks. . It’s a part of who I am. Dont get me wrong I do love a rave. But them floyd voices run through my veins. The best ever. ❤️
