Organ meats aren’t for everyone, but if you like them, kidneys are absolutely delicious as are liver and sweetbreads.

I've had steak & kidney pie and it was tasty. Can't ever recall seeing kidney for sale in the meat department of a grocery store.

LeesaDeAndrea--It depends on the shop and the clientele. They might be kept out of view. Beef heart, kidneys, tongue, etc, are available. You have to ask for them.

Julia could sell ice cubes to Eskimos. I would hard pressed to try this with a truly open mind, though. Her goal was to expand American palates, and she certainly went for the gold with this one!

I don't ever recall hearing airplane or motorcycle noises while watching these episodes on PBS so I'm very confused why every episode of this upload has that noise at some point.

I tried following her kidney recipe in her first book. While I love liver, kidneys are challenging to prepare and an acquired taste...if you can find any for sale. More trouble than they are worth, and these days far more expensive because Americans don't eat offal. And for the folks complaining about eating veal; grow up. An adult cow has just as much right to live as a young one and the young ones don't have to spend all the days of their lives confined in inhumane conditions.

This is truly the saddest thing. Veal and young animals are not the upsetting part as they’re delicious. $12 for a good brandy…heartbreaking. Lol

I don’t even like liver, and I dislike the uric tang of kidneys. I tried kidney once - I doubt I will ever eat kidney again unless I haven’t eaten in two days and there is absolutely nothing else left to eat. I say - go ahead and grind them into sausages with lots of disguising spices. At least for me! But the fat from around the kidneys - the suet - is great for pastry.

Sorry as much as I love Julia I can't watch this, talking about killing little baby animals only a couple weeks old just for their kidneys to me is downright disgusting!!!

Doesn’t bother me. Veal is just to delicious to not taste at least once in your lifetime.

First of all, it’s not ‘just for the kidneys’. Considerably more than just the kidneys are used, though waste should be criticized. Second, I don’t see much difference between raising an animal to slaughter it at sox days, six weeks, six months, or six years. It’s just as dead, and it was birthed with that end in mind just the same. Unless your point is that meat shouldn’t be eaten *at all*, in which case consider saying so rather than objecting on other grounds.
