Roland Aerophone AE-10 is a digital wind instrument that lets you play sax, clarinet, flute, violin, synth sounds and many more. Since it supports traditional sax fingering, the AE-10 is instantly familiar to acoustic sax players, especially with a mouthpiece-mounted breath sensor that responds like an acoustic horn. Version 3.0 software includes 128 tones, with 66 new tones to expand your repertoire. This video introduces sounds customizing examples of new sounds.

Your tutorials are always extremely helpful. Any chance that you could do a new tutorial for the AE-10 with the new 3.0 and 3.1 firmware update. For example the settings options for Best Lip Response that you explained so well using the 2.0 firmware have changed. It would be much appreciated. Thanks again.

Is it possible to do splits with say a different sound in the lower octave than upper?

Thanks for getting us up to speed on v3. I really REALLY wanted an AE-10 but the lack of true flute fingerings drove me away. Sadly, it would be super easy for them to make it flute-like (exactly like the wx5 flute fingerings) but they haven't, so I got an old wx5 and will match it up with the new Dynasample XpressO

Hi Alistair - thank you again for a great video... I have an AE-10, and though I am tempted to get the AE-20 or -30, the -10 is still serving me well. I have one question though and that is I do a solo with it using the "Bari-Sax voice" and I hold the "thumb joy stick" to the side the WHOLE time I am playing a particular solo to get eth edgier "growl" sound... is there a pedal I can get to do this same function? I am fine if it is "wired" since the AE-10 doesn't have the Blue Tooth wireless connectivity. Would the Roland Ap allow me to create a user setting where the "growl " always on? Thank you in advance for your response!

HAllo Alistair, can I upgrade an older AE10 to the Version 3.0 ? What is the actual firmware for that Instrument. I only need that Instrument for the Thumb joystick. I still own a AE20

Hallo and thank you for your fantastic and helpful work. May I have a question? I updated my Aerophone AE-10 to version 3, so there is plenty of new sounds in aerophone. But, when I want to import these new sounds from Aerophone to Aerophone Editor app, it imports only my USER sounds, other origin sounds are deleted. User manual doesn't help. Don't you know, what am I doing wrong? Thank you very much, best regards

Me too, same here. I only have 100 "Init tone". It's frustrating. Roland website doesnt say anything. Please help!

To alter one of the factory sounds you have to copy it to a user file. Then when you open the app and in the download you’ll see the sound you want to alter in the user file you copied it to. Alisters explanation of this procedure is right on. Be patient and follow his instructions. Works great. I created my tenor sax sound that I now can use professionally.

@@meldavis7183 The problem is ( I have version 3.11) there is no obvious way to find the sequence of sounds/instruments on this screen from which I cannot get away no matter what I tried. Are you saying that, the app no longer ever shows that screen which Alistair shows in his tutorials. Meaning we have to copy an instruments using the buttons on the AE-10 to one of the Inits ? Or should I delete that init in order to get the full list of instruments that resides in the AE-10 ?

Hello Alistair. Tell me what MIDI controller pedal can be used on the aerophone ae-10? Strange, but it does not have the output and input MIDI, only USB. For concert performance and fast switching is very necessary MIDI foot controller. I looked at the Roland MIDI Foot Controller FC-300, but it doesn't have a USB connection. Please help with the choice.

I don't think there is any way to do it with the built in sounds. However If you use a laptop and feed the AE-10 as midi input and use virtual sounds from samplemodeling and audiomodeling then you can use pedals as well as other midi controllers. .

It's sound no 78 on the AE-10, maybe if you upload from the AE to the app you will see it.

I soooooo badly want them to make a flute version so I can play my flute using earphones that would be my dream come true!

There is an aerophone mini now that seems to be more like a flute.

I forgot to mention that holding the thumb joy sick over the WHOLE time is rather clumsy for me, so it would serve me better to have a foot pedal do this function.

I believe it is going in fives, with the exception of the ae-01 aerophone mini. Therefore the next may be an AE-15, and i’d guess it would come out in the next two years because that’s about how long many companies update their products (most use a year but that’s hasty for such a sophisticated technology)

The AE-20 is the new replacement for the AE-10 basically and the AE-30 is the "pro" version with some extra features

I'm a saxophone player, I do appreciate that you put effort into creating a beautiful instrument like this one, but I personally don't see a reason why I would buy this to play saxophone or trumpet or any of those acoustic sounds on it. I think you should be more focused on developing more intresting electronic and synthetic sounds for this one, it would make a whole lot of a difference. I'm delving more into electronic music, so I imagine it would be a thrill to play all those heavy synth leads on this thing.

I would never use the Synth sounds and only want the acoustic sounds

Buula you can use this as a midi controller to control software sounds too. This is also easier to play and more portable than a real sax.

Some of us are interested mainly in acoustic sounds, and love playing so many different instruments that sound fairly close to real instruments (esp Samplemodeling and Audiomodeling virtual instruments). Synth sounds are mostly, to me, boring as hell, flat. It's like the difference between the sound of an acoustic bass vs electric guitar bass in jazz. The acoustics has a complexity that charms and delights, whereas the electric one can sound ok, but, to me lacks depth. It's really a matter of personal taste and preference.
