I purchase the Roland RD88 it’s everything he said it is , the touch of the keys are so smooth it makes you want to practice, and the sounds are phenomenal! God Bless!

Have you had to use it as a MIDI controller with DAW? Are there any problems with transmission of velocity sensitivity?

Nice demo I always follows your demo of pianos. I have a one question, can this has any resonance setting because some how I felt resonance of piano sound is very less specially in middle to higher octaves. I felt as compared to RD2000 piano sound is not that level. Otherwise this instrument is really awesome, very nicely designed & good facilities they gives. Thank you!

How does the PHA4 standard key action compare with Kawai's RHIII on (for example) the ES8? I'm a little frustrated that apparently the ES8 only has 2 pedal inputs. Also, for the sake of measurement, how high above the table/stand are the white keys?

i think it has the same PHA-4 standard key action as my Roland FP-10 but it's still better than any action then other piano in this price range

Its a dope keyboard. The only thing that is lacking is 4 part layers with faders. Roland always seems to forget that on these smaller stage pianos.

Brilliant review! I would want to know if the Roland RD88 can play 16 tracks midi files. I would like play with some accompaniments. I don't need a lot of capabilities for recording and sequencing, I can do that using a computer. The only I need is the keyboard be capable of playing these backing tracks. Can this keyboard do that? I was reading the specifications and I couldn't find nothing about this matter.

Please answer me an important question about this instrument, I have seen every site I go under the keyboard specs that this piano comes with 3000 sounds/patches onboard, is it for real? I mean this sounds are factory installed on this piano or is it something to be downloaded via computer, or a kind of Roland's software and so. This is hard to find a correct answer , even on Roland's website, and I've seen a lot of "guessings" on the net Any comments will help me to decide to go for this piano or not Thanks

As an RD-88 owner. I confirmed you that there are about 3700 sounds inside this board as factory default patches, mostly synth, lead, and pad voices which derived from the new Fantom under Zen Core Technology. RD-88 is also able to further download and install more sounds from Roland Cloud, if the patches/voices are compatible/supported with the Zen Core.

Yes, when you install the driver on your Mac the RD-88 becomes a sound card (USB Audio) with USB MIDI. You can set your Mac audio output to the RD-88 and everything (e.g. KZfaq) can be heard through the keyboard (on-board speakers or headphones.)

Thinking the same thing. Looks like Roland may have it optimized for Apple but can be used with other Soft-Synth products. (This comment entered using a Windows OS laptop, btw). I haven't put my fingers on one yet but I think I want the keyboard for portability sake. I have an RD-700 at the moment.

I agree that the so called "Grand" sound is similar to Casio. Perhaps it's the recording. Even the electric piano sounds horrible. Sounds better here: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/kOB_Z8yVt7SshXU.html

Hey Babak, They both have the same action in them, the PHA-4. The RD-88 has better sound engines in it, but the feel on both will be identical. Cheers - Murdoch

@@babakmahbaei I'm pretty sure you're right that it is different. The Ivory Feel-G in the Juno isn't the same action as the PHA-4. I've played the PHA-4 (on the Roland FP-30) alongside the DS-88, and they feel considerably different to me; I found the Juno to feel ponderous, heavy on downstrokes with a kinda sluggish key return. But if you're looking for a "preview" of the RD-88 at least with regard to keybed feel, the FP-30 and a couple of other models would be worth a play just to see if you get along with them, at least 'til the RD-88 hits the stores.

@@babakmahbaei I prefer the PHA-4. To me, it just feels more natural than the DS-88. I like the sound set in the DS, but from what I gather, the sounds in the RD will have more depth and variety anyway. Would still suggest trying both, though, since they do feel different, and what feels wonky to me might be perfect for you, and vice versa.

I can't playback Mp3 or Wav files from the USB flash drive. I formatted it on the keyboard, I put the songs in the songs file. The files show up on the screen but when I press play on any song it tells me the file is not playable. Is anybody else having the same problem?

I always come to the same conclusion when listening to a Roland keyboard. It sounds like an electric piano, desperately trying to sound like an acoustic!
