I got myself one of these guys just over a week ago... I have to say I'm absolutely loving it. I've described it to my friends as my favourite "audio sketchpad" I've ever owned. It's so ridiculously easy to put together a quick riff even without a keyboard attached (the buttons are OK... acceptable for its use case). The amount of settings you can change as well even on the fly as the sequences play give an incredible amount of live flexibility as well. Loving your videos on this device as well... it's helping me learn a few tricks I didn't know yet :)

This is replacing my OP-1 Synth, that sits on the shelf, getting ready to sell. I'm finding though it's not a start to end 6 minute sound box like the OP-1 it's just better all around.

I never owned an OP-1, but as far as I know Is a great tool for making music. I can only state that the SH really shines for sound and workflow, although some bugs (still have some glitch with FX when changing pattern). Thank you for your comment, Mate!

It was very interesting watching you put that together, I would have had to start with the rhythm track! I'll give it a go your way and see. Great sound, and I agree with you, I don't think you can find a bad tone in the whole machine!

At 4:26, the “noisy glitch” you had, I think you hit the mod strip on the Keystep, adding modulation to the sound. Another tip, start with a simple rhythm (like a kick or hi-hat on each beat) to use as a metronome when recording the other parts live.

Do you set up 4 midi channels when using the external sequencer ie one for each part? Cheers

Yes, I set up a MIDI channel for each part. I'm doing a tutorial video using Oxi One, keep sticking around! Cheers!

Complimenti per il video, davvero utilissimo! Avrei due domande/curiosità da chiederti: 1- visto che i knobs delle varie regolazioni di filtri ecc non sono a corsa infinita, cosa succede ai valori quando si passa da una traccia all'altra? 2 - mi sembra di aver capito che non c'è la possibilità di sidechain direttamente dall sh 4d...ma mi chiedevo, dato che può mandare audio via usb, sarebbe possibile magari triggerare una sidechain tramite compressore da DAW ? o la traccia di drums arriva tutta assieme e quindi non è possibile fare sidechain per esempio solo sul kick? grazie mille e ancora complimenti 😊

Grazie mille per i complimenti! Venendo alle tue domande: 1) due sono le modalità impostabili da menu per il cosiddetto "knob mode": DIRECT, che aggiorna immediatamente il parametro appena inizi ruotare il potenziometro (questo potrebbe però tradursi in un cambio brusco del suono) oppure CATCH, che inizia a modificare il suono solo dopo che è passato per il punto corrispondente al suo stato. Devo dire che io preferisco comunque la modalità DIRECT anche se presenta qualche rischio, in quanto detesto muovere il potenziometro e non avere nessun effetto anche solo se per qualche frazione di secondo. Va a gusti :-) 2) Purtroppo la traccia di drums è tutta insieme, al momento non c'è modo di splittarla nel vari pezzi della batteria. Però si possono ottenere degli effetti tipo SIDECHAIN sfruttando l'LFO. Un saluto e buona musica!

Can i connect the Push Controller with it and when yes how? With USB?

I don't own the Push, but AFAIK any synth that accepts MIDI CC like the SH can be controlled by Push. You have to set the proper values on Push by referring to the MIDI implementation chart of the SH's manual. USB connection works (SH has USB MIDI) but you have to connect It toi computer as well as the Push. Keep me posted!

Question. I have an Arturia keylab 61 as controller for the sh-4d. The arpeggio does not work from the keylab controller. Everything else works. And the arpeggio works perfect on the sh-4d itself. Is there something to look at?

You mean the arpeggio on SH-4d? AFAIK SH-4d arpeggio works only when you use the keys on the SH. I will try ASAP and come back with a definite answer

Thank you for your quick answer. Yes, I start the arpeggio on the SH-4d. The keyboard controller does not go with the arpeggio but plays a straight note.

You sure? Not all the encoders can be motion recorded, did you check whether you tried the right ones?

@@jadisperdu9412 I'm afraid you need service... sorry! According to the manual motions are not recorded for the following knobs: [1], [2], [MODEL], [PITCH], [TIMBRE], [FILTER TYPE], [LFO TYPE], [EFFECTS TYPE], [CTRL1], [CTRL2]. PS: Motion Sw has to be set to ON!

I put bass on part 3, not drums. Drums are on part R (the 5th part)

Hey. Question. I have a synthesizer and a sampler and a cheap drum machine. No computer. Can you tell me an affordable basic sequencer that will let me make music and that will ve an entry level sequencer That will teach me the basics of how to make music? I've heard you can spend $150 to buy a basic 1. Somebody mentioned a QD1 or something like that.. But can you give me a list of a few sequencers That would be decent one's?. I know nothing about midi, I just know you could connect things and they will work together. I'd like to try to make some electronic music with my 13 year old son. Thanks in advance

Maybe look at the Oxi One or the Korg SQ-64. The Oxi has more advanced features which you will grow into, but the SQ-64 is a simpler 4 track sequencer (probably cheaper too).

Oxi One, as Symbiat suggests, is pretty good. In the same price range I would suggest an Elektron Digitakt. It's a mighty sequencer with in depth functions, with synthesizer capabilities and sampling (don't know which sampler you have but Digitakt could be a good addition in any case, although you will have a bit of learning curve). If you want to ho cheaper you can consider Model:Cycles, great gear as well. Another sequencer Is the Arturia Beatstep pro, only MIDI, way cheaper.

@malvinusmusic what do you mean "only midi".. sorry, I'm technogically blind. I'd like to spend $200 or under, just because I have no idea how to work any of this stuff. What do you suggest? The king? The Arturia? The oni one?
