They’re actually very alike, in that the 39mm isnt 39 and the 40mm isn’t 40. 😂 Is it a weird Rolex thing? No idea. But it’s still my fav Rolex.

Hell no, thank god they didn’t! Why ruin the classic lines of the watch, even if it would make sense for durability, but realistically it is a dressier sports model. I also loathe the added crown guards on the Air King. Sure, it would reinfurce the sports identity, but how “sports” and “utility” is the AK really with its single lume plot at 12 o’clock and being the, well, Air King. It’s more like a more playful Explorer or Oyster Perpetual for folks who want a simple design, but like a little splash of color. I personally really dig the yellow and green font and green hand. Anyway, those are my thoughts

While I prefer some things on the old 114270* the new one has it beat in: - anti reflective coating (big plus) - fantastic lume - lumed 369 numerals - slightly larger, better proportioned 369 numerals - technically better, more solid bracel and clasp *things that are better on the old 114270 and they’re really all related to the bracelet: - less aggressive taper (my main gripe with the new one. I really don’t like the tiny 14mm clasp) - (very subjective) though the old bracelets and clasps are flimsy, they wear really well. They have just that little extra play that makes them comfy and the stamped clasps are very flat and don’t get in the way as much while typing on a lap top or things like that. And I like that you can micro adjust the bracelet via the clasp with a toothpick while on holiday etc. - 20mm lug width makes for plenty of strap options and most straps work better with the older, more sturdy lugs. Plus there’s room for them. On the new model the spring bars are very close to the case making it too tight for many nato and leather straps. And because of the new, more delicate lugs you really need a very simple, thin and elegant leather strap so as not to overpower the case. (The new 36 explorer case is in fact less beefy than the DJ and OP36) That being said, i wear the new one and it brings a smile to my face whenever I look at it and I absolutely love the fully lumed dial!

Such an odd comment. You're saying if someone speaks positively about something, when it's update, they aren't allowed to prefer the new version, that didn't exist when the previous version was spoken about?

@@BarkandJack I don't think my comment is odd, it's just an observation of your (previous) views. It is not a critisism. You are allowed (and encouraged) to voice your opinions on watches. Just out of interest, my local AD (where I collected my 39mm, after having had it regulated, and who gave me a free watch pouch) have the opposing view to yours and said the only improvement the saw was the movement with its increased power reserve. We all have different views which are all equally valid (providing they are constructive).

You're an outlier. But people with a 6-7.25 in wrist tend to love 36mm. If i had your wrist I'd be rocking a panerai

It has a flat balance spring, balance cock rather than full balance bridge and a very delicate winding mechanism, so delicate that it shouldn't really be wound by hand.
