@@cheynewalls I destroyed two Rolex Oysters working in the field. I worked in physical oceanography. The G forces was beyond their capabilities. The first one I sold for nothing, and the second one I had to have there entire movement replaced 🤣🤣. Believe it or not I had way better service from Timexs both mechanical and quartz, so go figure. DGMR, I love luxury watches, and especially Rolex, but for a practical tough watch, Seiko beats the shit out of them.

@Kevin Price Actually another watch channel had their Master Watch Maker on, and he said Rolex and Seiko made the most rugged watch. He said Seiko used some plastic parts, which he didn't like. Overall, they were almost indestructible.

Said by others but as the comments help the channel… Refreshing to see someone review a tool watch - that they have actually used as a tool watch. It came across very genuine. Congrats dude I only have a datejust (so not tool watch) but likewise, it just runs. Never been serviced, never been polished and doesn’t get taken off to wash the dishes - keeps excellent time 8 years later.

Awesome review buddy. This is Rolex's last true tool watch and it is great to see a review of a tool watch used as such. Scratches speak to the life of the watch. Just had my GMT II serviced....NO polishing. The scratches and marks are part of your story with the watch, at least that is my opinion. I am waiting for one of these I absolutely love them. Outstanding review. This has been called the last true tool watch Rolex makes, and I wholeheartedly agree. Love mine. Great to see you loving and using this watch. I’ve worn an Explorer II for 8 years, the first 7 were with the previous model but I got the new one when it came out in 2021. If I was a one watch person it would be the one I keep. I’ve also dropped mine on hardwood, right when I got my first one, in a tiny hotel in Nepal, and it stayed accurate for the next 7 years without issue and is still going on the wrist of the guy I sold it to. It’s a perfect watch for adventures, I took mine with me to 6 continents. Enjoy!

I agree - I wish that the sides were brushed instead of polished. I also wish it had a bigger crown as well as the glidelock clasp as that's on my sea dweller and its really good. I got mine with the intention of using it as you have, but I'm still guilty of babying it a bit too much. Saying that, it's still picking up a few marks, which I don't mind

Awesome watch! I am really torn between this and the sub date and the only hang up I have with the Explorer II is the 100m water resistance. For some reason that's bugging me even though I'll never come close to testing that point. Keep up the cool Explorer videos!
@Not-a-bot222
@Not-a-bot222 Жыл бұрын
In my opinion, the GMT complication is much more useful in real application than the dive timing bezel. As far as 100m water resistance goes, the odds of you “finding” yourself in a situation that 100m meters is not enough is unlikely. If you do dive and the 100 puts you off, then maybe just grab a GSHOCK or something for dive outings only. That’s my two cents

This was one the best reviews of the new Explorer II that I’ve come across. I have my name on my ADs list for a Batman/girl but recently have really been drawn to the white dial Exp II. The one reservation is the size of the dial. I have a 7.25” wrist and thinking it won’t be too large. Curious what your wrist size is? It seems to fit your wrist well. Keep up the good content and your photography looks amazing. Will definitely check it out further.

I would like to learn about photography. I have a Canon 90D, with different lenses. What do you think of that camera? I know that your gear / camera is not automatic, but what do you think of the 90D? Also, love your Explorer II ! I am a scuba diver and have a Rolex Deep-Sea Dweller and an OMEGA Seamaster Planet Ocean Chronograph with 600M is water resistant to 600 M/ 2000 feet / 60 bar, and has a helium-escape valve. The Omega is superior being a certified chronometer timepiece, which is powered by the in-house, Swiss Co-Axial calibre 3313! Of course, the Rolex can withstand the extreme underwater pressure of 390 bars without malfunctioning, but I will be hard-pressed if I ever dive one tenth that depth!

Only knocks I can think of are no quickset date so you have to advance the hour hand to dial in the date if this watch is part of a larger rotation. Plus brand recognition isn’t always welcome. Some guys compliment you but some can pull a face and see you as that Rolex guy. Maybe being careful in public places.
@cheynewalls

@@cheynewalls the quickset idea is that it’s for international travellers like a GMT. You set the orange hand to hometime and shift the hour hand to the new zone. The date follows the hand. Then back again at home. Hilariously this wasn’t a GMT function originally. The whole second time reading was only to distinguish night or day in 24 hour mode when, wait for it, caving away from sunlight for days on end. Hilarious!

You are correct that it does not "fly under the radar" but it does more than if you bought a submariner. There is an understated elegance to it. I know a watch like this is a lot of money. No more so than a new motorbike or new car. I am wanting to buy one. I asked a dealer in Melbourne, Australia if they had an Air King. They said they didn’t. Rolex really needs to sort their supply situation out, don’t you think? Haven’t asked about an Explorer or Explorer II. Amazing how all the sellers on Chrono24 managed to buy the watch (they don’t want) whereas, the people whom would like to purchase one can’t do so. Imagine actually going into an Authorised Dealer and actually being able to buy the watch you want.

@yogiyoda Жыл бұрын
@@cheynewalls - it's a lot more likely to last 50+ years if it doesn't get stolen or smashed on rocks. Solar g-shocks can last decades without maintenance. If you get multi-band, you don't even have to set the time. You'll have perfect accuracy for the lifetime of the watch. I put my last one through 10 years of abuse that would destroy a Rolex and I never had to set the time or change the battery. Loved the countdown timer and stop watch features too. If you want one that will last a really long time, has some history and will hold it's value then check out the gw-5000u. But there's lots of variety if that one doesn't float your boat

@@yogiyoda Wow 10 years, that is good. All my G-shocks have only lasted 3 or 4 years before I had to get ride of them.

@@cheynewalls - what broke on them? If your g-shocks aren't lasting for 5 years, I don't see your Rolex lasting that long either

@@yogiyoda I had a digital screen fail and on my MT-G the Mode button broke after less than a year. The G-shocks are great watches, I just don't think they are the best in very cold weather. Both of my G-shocks broke when I was snow camping. The extreme cold really seems to hurt the digital make up of the G-Shocks, not the case with mechanical watches. Cheers

A g-shock is tougher and more accurate. You bought a rolex for the status.

Very untrue, I have had g-shocks before, but they only last for a few years. I wanted something that would last my lifetime, that is a Rolex. If you watch my other layer videos I'm trying to disguise the watch with different straps so it doesn't look like a Rolex, but I still get the toughness and accuracy that will last for decades.

The good thing about the Rolex Explorer II Polar dial is its not really recognized at a Rolex watch by most people. Doesn't look like an iconic Rolex, a little bit of a saving grace.

Dude acting like you need a rolex to count seconds is a bit much
@cheynewalls
@cheynewalls Жыл бұрын
I think you missed the point a bit. Yes a lot of watches can count seconds, but very very few can do it for decades. While being an everyday watch that can be worn in the field and at high-end events.

@@cheynewalls very versatile watch completely agree! I just thought you were laying it on a little thick when saying that you needed the 10k+ watch to measure picture exposures, I am just nitpicking a bit great review overall.
