SD4k 116600 - future classic, best sports watch from Rolex

tommy gun Thanks! I agree - still seems under appreciated to me. At this point you can still pick them up for close to the price of a submariner date, it will be interesting to see if that changes of the next 10,20,30 years. If I’m honest, it’s thicker than I’d like , but everything else is practically perfect for me. Thanks for watching!

@@MatthewDeacon i agree... i have the sd4k 116600 - and its a keeper for sure. had every rolex sports watch.... the sd4k is the best one (i dont like the new seadwellers) i prefere it over the daytona as a daily rocker actually. Its a bit thicker but not too thick - so with the case its an overall unique and very well proportioned and masculine design. also its a good investment rolex :D

Got to love the case of the Sea dweller 116600 SD4K - perfect but love the green dial from the hulk as well … difficult to decided for one . .. but think the SD4K would be the one

The critical thing about the SD4K is the overall thickness, just over 15mm. Significant difference compared to any standard submariner which is quite slim for a modern sport watch…. They both wear well considering their technical capabilities but the SD4K is just too thick for a daily watch in my opinion
@impexRQ
@impexRQ 8 ай бұрын
@@my5digithobby967 I think the thickness is more in the case back and somehow it hides and fits pretty well. I love the lugs and case design in the SD4K… compare to the square case on the hulk … but that dial on the hulk is stunning

Does the 16600 wear better than the 116600 on a flat wrist considering the difference in bracelets? I’m looking to purchase one of these. I have an SD43 that wears great on my wrist because of the width of the case spreading the weight over the wrist to keep it from flopping, and also the glide lock definitely helps. The top and bottom of my wrist are still visible from lug to lug.

In my opinion the 16600 wears better than the 116600 overall, because it is has a better case shape, slimmer lugs and better overall proportions. The bracelets do not make a big difference as they both have solid end links; the SD4Ks bracelet is more convenient for sizing purposes, but the hollow centre link bracelets of the past are more silky and comfortable when they are fit correctly to your wrist at any given moment (again, since the wrist changes the glidelock must be seen as a superior option where size is concerned, but not comfort). The 116600 does suffer somewhat from being as sturdily built as the 126600, but in a more compact package, therefore it is somewhat “short and stout” and I agree that the 126600 achieves a certain balance that wears well, even though the entire package is oversized in my opinion. None of the sea dwellers wear as well as something like a 14060 which is essentially the perfect 40mm sports watch package, but I understand if some people find it boring. Few full grown men have wrists too small to accommodate the sd43 per se, but in my opinion it will always look oversized on a wrist below 8.25” or so and even then I think the 14060 or 16610 will still look better and more flattering even on a large wrist. The 16600 is close, but the thickness at 15mm inevitably throws it off from being ideal. If you enjoy the size of the sd43 than I imagine the 16600 would be a bit better because the SD4K actually has the smallest lug to lug of every watch I have mentioned, which I think is its greatest asset, but does like I say make it stouter than the more tapered lugs of the sd43 and traditional subs. Thanks for the comment!

rumour has it that there will be a new submariner soon, and it might combine the best of both with slightly smaller lugs, but slimmer than the sd4k and better movement too!

Sd4000 lug to lug a big smaller perfect size for small / medium wrist , sub maxi case don’t really like it

I very much agree that the case shape of the SD is a better shape and size, but I must say that the thickness is a problem especially on a small or medium wrist, but it's all personal preference. In my opinion, for small and medium wrists, modern submariners are too large and are not flattering. Even for a large wrist, but medium also, the16610 or 14060 is a way better fit (pre-ceramic). I just got a 14060 which I will review soon and compare to the new sub/SD. For a small wrist, I think any 40mm sub is too large, and a 36mm explorer or datejust will look way better - again, just my opinion. Thanks for watching and commenting!

For a first Rolex (everyday wear) would you go for a 16570 polar or save longer and get a 116600 Sea Dweller?

Wow.... so many parts to this question, I feel like I could talk for a long time about this. I actually have those two exact models, and I'd be happy to do a video showing them side by side and give some of my thoughts, which I will do briefly here too The 16570 polar's best attributes for me are: - the size is literally perfect - it's slim and a perfect sport/casual 40mm Rolex -it's great for day-wear, casual or smart/business casual (not suited to formal/evening-wear) -it's under the radar, doesnt scream rolex like a pepsi might, etc The 116600 is a big step up in price and quality - it has a fantastic case size, being noticeably more compact than a supercase sub/gmt2; however, it is very thick in comparison which is not uncomfortable but takes getting used to and will never sit the way a 12mm watch will, especially 5-digit rolexes like the 16570 - the ceramic bezel with spectacular action, glidelock adjustment, and the movement upgrades are the main things that have actually tipped me towards 6-digit vs 5-digit as better all around watches, though I think the regular submariner supercase will look even better if it goes on the same diet the new 36 datejusts have Very roughly speaking you should find unpolished box and paper 16570's for around 6k USD, and the 116600 for 11-12k USD. It's a tough call if it's your first. If you have 6k the polar would be an amazing start, or could be your one super nice watch forever and do everything you need it, (though get a dressier watch for certain occasions) You could of course eventually add a sub, a speedy, navitimer, datejust, whatever your style) If you want to go all out, get the SeaDweller and you'll be good to go. One warning is, if you get something as nice as a 116600, it can be hard to go back - it sounds funny but it's really true.

I appreciate your detailed response. A video would be awesome. This may be my one and only everyday Rolex or super nice watch that I can afford for the next 6 years or so, since I am considering going back to school. Ideally I would buy both lol can the Sea-Dweller fit under a suit jacket or button down sleeve ok? Does the 16570’s bezel scratch and dent easily?

@@jmoore20121992 A bit of bad news on both fronts I'm afraid... the 116600 does not easily fit under dress cuffs. Sport coats or sweaters would be fine, but I toyed with the idea of wearing the SD with a tux for a wedding I was just at, and it was definitely a no-go, unless I was ok with it being on the outside of the cuff and I'm not. I ended up wearing a 16710 pepsi (to match a red pocket square) which is the size of the 16570 and it worked great (photos to come on my instagram @watchoutwatchreviews LOL) The 16570 looks amazing when like-new with crisp bezel, but it does ding up pretty easily and the enamel in the numerals will wear out. If you look around at more affordable 16570s you will see what they look like when they are well worn and/or polished, and it's definitely a less-sharp look. A 5-digit sub might be a better all rounder in terms of size and durability; however, a new 16570 bezel replacement could rejuvenate a well used exp 2

jmoore20121992 I know you didn’t ask me but I’ve owned both so thought I’d chime in :) At a 7” wrist or so, the polar explorer wore too small for me, it almost looked girly (to me) but was still very cool. A classic, timeless watch for sure. If you can swing the Sea Dweller, I would do it. But it does wear thicker than most other Rolex sports watches, which detracts from its allure a bit. Just a thought, for less than the price of a SD4K, I would look at the Rolex 114060 and a Tudor 25500TN. You would have a very slim, timeless no-date sub with all the modern features that would dress up or down very well. Similar vain to the 16570, but manlier in my opinion. If you can cope with the larger lugs. And in the 2-line Pelagos you’d have a thicker sports watch with more matte finishes, matte dial, helium escape valve, unmagnified date, etc. for more casual wear.
