Love the 14060....beautiful dial, subtle...Newer model 'super case' bugs me

Yes, the 5 digit is beautiful. I’m not sure why they ever changed it. Thanks for the comment. If you enjoy the content, I’d really appreciate it if you subscribed to our channel!

There is also the 14060M, which in its early stages of production, was not COSC certified, so it was still a 2-liner. When comparing the 14060M with the newer 114060, the only differences are physical differences, because they both have the same 3130 movement. Not exactly sure which one to choose, but it comes down to the dial simplicity and finer case aesthetic of the 14060M vs the sturdier, more resistant construction of the case, bracelet, bezel, the 4 lines of text, and the larger hour markers and hands of the 114060.
@FreddyMacT3 жыл бұрын
Yes, this is really the only debate. I think if you're just concerned over the aesthetics, then I think the old 14060 is the watch to get, it looks vintage while giving you the 'newer' movement that doesn't make it feel like you're compromising. But I got the 114060 because I wear that watch almost as my beater, so the tougher qualities (ceramic bezel, bigger more robust bracelet) comes in handy. I probably shouldn't wear it like that given the value and the way the grey market is going about pricing out these watches... but I have 2 other watches that I rarely wear and so the 114060 becomes 'the watch' for me. In any case, best advice I can give, is just wear it... that watch was made to be a tool and it's an awesome look either way you go.

This is my first automatic watch and I absolutely love it despite the negative reviews rolex seems to get. I think the weight on this watch is perfectly heavy and I love the metal band! Overall great buy!

As a person who prefers "tool" watches, the Sub (no date) is the standard. I would suggest to review ones' daily activities, and to review the current watch one has on. If it is banged up and you want the Sub, get the 14060. Replacement costs for the aluminum bezel are far cheaper than the ceramic. I prefer NATO straps so would replace the Rolex bracelet, keeping the bracelet clean for those special occasions, only. Happy Holidays!

Great video and of course beautiful time pieces. However I mostly prefer the 14060 because its size and history. Aren’t we all somehow attracted to submarine particularly when seeing this model in movies or on celebrities :) If someone offers me this two watch with unworn condition and same price, I would definitely prefer the 14060. Thanks for the video again.

Hi like you I have a circa 1978 Rolex sub and a newish 114060, both are great watches with the older one probably my favourite due to owning 40 years. I am interested on your thoughts on whether you think your older one due to lower reflectivity or perhaps say less bling factor seems more black? My old one has a plexiglass crystal and aluminium bezel and the black just seems blacker on the bezel and the face of watch.
@thecolumbiawatchsociety88366 жыл бұрын
That's interesting, I've never really thought about it. Your 78 is obviously a lot different than the 14060 with sapphire. To me, the 14060 almost seems "flat black" when compared to the high gloss of the ceramic.
@tiempodesobrahn6 жыл бұрын
I have the new date sub and I like it, and in comparison to my Explorer II 16570 it feels a lot more solid but a bit heavy on the wrist while the Explorer feels like its not even there. How do you compare both after a full day of wear on your wrist?
@thecolumbiawatchsociety88366 жыл бұрын
The newer versions are MUCH heavier. I think after a day or 2 on the wrist, you forget about it, though.
@samadrid63216 жыл бұрын
The size differences are dramatic side by side. I have 2002 Sea-Dweller, and I really like the older look.
@rollywood27936 жыл бұрын
You are right! Whether the SD or the submariners: Ceramic VS Pre-ceramic, they feel and wear totally different. One is a "vintage looking piece" and the other is a modern Rolex. Wether ceramic or pre-ceramic, just gorgeous looking watches!
@thecolumbiawatchsociety88366 жыл бұрын
Well said on both regards, they are very different, but both great.
@Madmanmarque6 жыл бұрын
I still prefer the older model. The lugs and crown guards seem much too heavy for the rest of the watch. I've had a 16610 for 25 years, diving all over the world and it's still going strong. I know it's fashionable to bash the date but when I bought mine they couldn't give the 14060 away. :)
@thecolumbiawatchsociety88366 жыл бұрын
Madmanmarque thanks for your feedback. Have you had it serviced before? If so, did you go through Rolex?
@Madmanmarque6 жыл бұрын
I had it serviced at the shop I bought it in. About 10 years ago. Since then, I've gotten into watchmaking and have been servicing my own watches. It can be a challenge finding genuine parts as the major watch manufacturers control it with an iron fist. Also, don't get me wrong the new watch's bracelet is head and shoulders above the old. I'm not so sure about the ceramic bezel, we'll have to see how that holds up with time.

@TheColumbiaWatchSociety are there any noticeable difference in the bands where swapping the bands across would cause any fitment issues?
@thecolumbiawatchsociety88363 жыл бұрын
Good question. I don’t think you would be able to flip flop the bands but i could be wrong. The lug width is the same but they fit so perfect, I’m not sure it would work. Why would you want to do that? Assuming you like the 5 digit watch head and 6 digit bracelet?
@boostlee8763 жыл бұрын
@@thecolumbiawatchsociety8836 well it’s more like me being concerned if an aftermarket Everest Rubber band from the older mode Rolex would fit the newer Rolex without any issues. Given that the bands are curved end rubber bands and claimed to fit very precisely.
@thecolumbiawatchsociety88363 жыл бұрын

@boostlee8763 жыл бұрын
@@thecolumbiawatchsociety8836 thanks for the feedback. have you ever swapped rubber b bands between the subs?? If you ever did that would probably answer the question because I’d imagine rubber b and Everest would all have to conform to the same mounting point despite brand. Subbed!

With the current shortage, I had to prepay mine over a month ago. Still haven't gotten yet, but the next one that comes into our Rolex store is mine! :) great review. I really wanted to see a comparison to the older one. It's pretty drastic, they did away with all the gripes I had about the submariner with the new one (small size, and hollow, cheap feeling links).

A single service cost will be $900+ ... so, they really would be the same price (if purchasing 14060 for $1,000 less plus service). That makes it a no brainer between the two ... the 114060 has a better movement, 10 year service period, better bracelet, better bezel, better dial, better case, and better clasp.
@thecolumbiawatchsociety88366 жыл бұрын
Doug Hindman thanks man. I don’t disagree!
@thecolumbiawatchsociety88366 жыл бұрын
It's really crazy. From a spec standpoint, there's no contest between the two...for essentially the same cost. There is something special about the "vintage" aspects. I really wish there was a modern version (ceramic), new bracelet, but with the older proportions. Maybe one day.

Panda wow, did they have to do something special?
@kittenfan6 жыл бұрын
there is nothing special in what they did. what is special to me is that how rolex can fuck over many people but people still play their game LOL. they jacked up the price of their sport models every year and play with supply. Oh dear. i used to like rolex and their offerings, but now i just cant justify of how much they are charging for sport rolex. in some areas, i heard they also started to implement some ridiculous rules like you cant have your warranty card or sth. they originally wanted to charge my dad for 700 USD extra for replacing the dial etc and being sneaky. i was so shocked when they asked 1800 usd. Are you kidding me?? what you wanna do with a fucking datejust anyway? this is not even a complicated watch. and then they said Oh we wanna replace the dial, etc. I said , no thank you. dont touch the dial, JUST SERVICE THE DAMN WATCH!! they finally took away 700 usd and charged 1100 usd. i still feel that my dad was fucked. but what can we do? fuck rolex.
