Exactly what I needed to see to make a decision about Roll20 for the rest of this campaign. Thanks.

When I ran my game. I gave myself a sh#tton of work. I took all of the prebuilt enemy NPCs and threw them out the window. Then I made each cult have different classes which were divided into melee, ranged, healer, arcane, and 'specialty'. The specialty ones were the character that could fit into multiple categories. Moon circle druid, eldritch knight, etc. Then each cult had several classes. For example, fire cult had monk of the four elements, vengeance paladin, evocation wizard etc, etc. Then I made each of these classes from level 1 through a level 15 version. (I ended up with something like 600 enemy PC sheets). Then I broke them even further with grunts (24 of them), soldiers (16 of them), lieutenants (8 of them), captains (4 of them), second in charge, and cult leader. But because they were fighting soldiers, each other, the players, etc. they would level up when the players did. grunts were players -4 levels, soldiers -3, lt-2, cpt-1, 2nd in charge = their level, cult leader, their level +2. So if you fought and killed 4 captains, there wouldn't be any more captains of that cult. The players didn't realize this, but it made the number of captured and killed cultists significant. And since they were all basically rolled up NPC characters, they were a lot tougher so it forced my players to strategize and not just go all murder hobo on them. As I said, it was a TON of work. But it paid off in that the whole world was opened up to them. Plus, their level was actually a measuring to how far along the cultists were in their plan to summon their god to our world.

You can make it so new charetcer sheets have the roll queries changed, but for individual ones already in there, you gotta do it yourself

I believe Out of the Abyss is still awaiting Roll20 adaptation.

Can you describe how you can label locations with x's or dots on a map. Trying to look it up, but can't find much on it

Tokens are probably copyright reasons. You can't make a Beholder look like a generic token. If you look in the credits they do actually commission art work for tokens. Brass Badger Workshop draws them up.

They do in some cases! In Tomb of Annihilation King Groak & Krr'ook are named grungs. They both use tokens that match the other grungs. With that in mind plus they go the extra mile to commission art work for other tokens, I bet there is a story behind the red named only ones. Anyhow I love your videos!

Watching through this review today, ready to get a new campaign going and wondering what you recommend overall, particularly between this campaign and Tomb of Annihilation?

My comment might be too late, but Tomb is much, much better. Princes is mostly just a mondane dungeon crawl (I like dungeon crawls, nothing wrong with them in principle) that features comical amounts of only slightly varied cultists, hobgoblins and ogres. The interesting parts of the dungeon(s) also take a very long time to come into effect and are mostly just for sightseeing. In general, it was a decent campaign to play through once, but I have zero desire to ever play that module again. Tomb, on the other hand, is phantastic and the amount of stuff you can easily add to jungles of Chult as a DM is phantastic.

Just a big dungeon crawl? Might want to read the original, was never meant to be just a sandbox adventure. It is much larger, ToEE

Is it worth checking out the original? How much bigger is it? PotA does include the Dessarin Valley region and some neat encounters, but it's till mostly a big ol' series of thematic dungeon crawls (which I happen to like!).

@@RogueWatson if you like a good dungeon crawl, then yes I would recommend it. The thing about ToEE, it gives you a lot of freedom to make it your own. The module encourages the DM to customize it to your style of DMing. That’s the deal with original D&D, it was designed and laid out in a manner to allow for the DM to make it into a full campaign that can be integrated into a much larger world depending on your own imagination. Prefer the original adventures over these modern remakes of the original. Goodmen games released a nice 5e version of ToEE if your interested.
