I live in southeastern Oklahoma and I still remember the Tornado that hit Moore in 1999. I believe that there were winds recorded over 300 mph.

I live in Wichita, Kansas the tornado alley,most of homes have basements to shelter from tornado, those don't have could buy a metal boxes for few thousand dollars put in the backyard.

Brings back such horrifying memories. My small town got hit by an EF 5 and devastated it. Fortunately, no one died but it kept going and killed many others in another nearby town. Most people had basements which helped so much. It was like looking at a war torn city like this does. So tragic.

I live in Neosho , so yeah I completely understand them. This drone footage is cinematic lvl from a classroom perspective. This, with a lecture would make a quality docudrama for ppl from around the world to understand them. Much like the 3•11 Tsunami one.

That German Shepherd Dog at the end of this wandering around totally adds to the sadness of this tragedy! The total obliteration of people's homes, cars and property is heartbreaking! My prayers to those that lost everything, and to those who lost any loved ones and pets. Hope that poor doggy will be found by family or someone.

People that were praying before the storm didn't get their answer. Up to thirty people are believed not to have made it. Homes destroyed, people injured, lives changed.. many for the worst.

I survived the Wichita Falls tornado of April 10, 1979 where 44 people died in the city and 58 total from surrounding communities. This video brings up many of those memories of 44 years ago. Back then, I watched the storm form up, grow, and continue past my house where it continued to destroy the city for about another 8 miles and then stayed on the ground for a total of close to 50. It’s hard to imagine the emotions this stirs up at the time of the tornado’s passing and then the days, weeks, and years after. The saddest part now is tending to those injured and deceased. These communities will require a great deal of support and most of that emotional support will come from within and from each other. You will never forget, but you will always be a stronger community willing to help many others who may fall victim to these disasters.

I was sent to your town for training, courtesy of the Air Force, in April 1985. Visited your mall, Sikes Senter, and remarked on how nice it was. New, I was told, rebuilt after the 1979 tornado. I read up on that. What a horrible event; I was from SoCal and my only experience with a tornado was an F-1 one that had damaged the roof on a furniture store 15 miles from my home. For what it's worth, my great-grandfather (maternal grandma's father) was born in Iowa Park TX.

@@petuniasevan I’m actually from the Boston area, sent to Sheppard AFB as a flight instructor from ‘78 through ‘82, so Wichita Falls was my first tornado. It occurred late in the afternoon and I watched it pull entire buildings off their foundation, lift cars off the road, and when it passed, it pelted us with softball sized hail. Observing this, I was immediately overwhelmed with the humanity of the situation, realizing that there were people in the center of what I was seeing real time. We immediately walked into the areas of total destruction in order to help people out of their homes and to look for their pets. The Air Force awarded us the Humanitarian Service Medal for these efforts. Ted Fujita, who developed the original tornado “F” scale, actually came to my house and we chatted for a bit. Only those who experienced this event in Mississippi can truly understand the terror of what occurred as this storm came through their homes just after dark. My heart and soul are with them as they begin their long recovery.

@@lindamann8520 Jarrell was worse. There was no debris. It was all ground up. They couldn't identify the difference between human remains and cattle. It was an F-5 traveling at 3 MPH. It was unsurvivable. I agree with you though, this is horrific.

Friend was in the 79 Wichita Falls Tx tornado F5. Homes were down to the concrete wiped clean except for one wall right where people were. The pictures were amazing.

I know this area well. It's flat MS Delta land. No hills for hundreds of miles. The percentage of land that's occupied by buildings and people is very small. The tornado could have taken a thousand paths that would have only torn up dirt. Yet through sheer horrible luck it found that tiny town (Rolling Fork), which is merely a dot on that massive landscape. Absolutely amazing. Death toll large and rising.

The toll must be double that, over 50 unless people were skilled at getting into shelters. So many homes wiped clear off foundations, and no signs of basements which might not be popular due to a high water table in the area. Tragic.

When I see mature trees stripped and uprooted to me that means unbelievable force. Breaking or tipping a utility pole is child's play, a vehicle hitting a pole will usually snap the pole. When a vehicle hits a mature tree there will be bark damage, the vehicle never wins. I followed this storm on Ryan Hall's site along with his meteorologist Andy Hill's site. This thing was a monster! Not just the size of the tornado but the amount of time it spent on the ground. Watching them follow it on radar seamed to take forever, once it touched down it just never let up. Andy did a great job of explaining how the conditions were feeding and sustaining the storm. They were also able to predict the path and try to alert those in danger.

4 yrs ago we lost a whole town 23 people died under 10minute & 6 tornadoes, with barely any warning. All we can do is pray that people are aware and prepared. 🙏

I have only seen one or two live people moving in this video! No animals--pets or cattle or horses. Such heartbreaking devastation! I lived through the F-5 tornado called The Candlestick Park tornado on March 3, 1966. The path length of that one was 202.5 miles. It moved through portions of MS and then into AL. A total of 57 people were killed and over 500 were injured. I have been up close and personal with at least six tornadoes over the years. I'm 76 years old and I pray I never see another one. Unfortunately, we are supposed to have more severe weather tomorrow (Sunday, 3/26). I just pray it won't be as bad as last night was.

The tornado didn't just go through the middle of town... It "erased" the town. The survivors will probably move to neighboring cities (or farther), and Rolling Fork will likely become an vacant area. A community that has been there for generations gone in minutes, truly heartbreaking...

Several tornadoes ripped through the small town of Rolling Fork, Mississippi last night killing at least 23 people so far. It’s a little north west of Jackson. My sister was 2 miles north of it's path. She has debri all over her property. Please pray for all those that lost their lives, their homes, jobs, etc. This is my worst fear living in Mississippi. In '75, my school and town was hit by a tornado. A few years ago, my daughter's home was hit by a tornado in the middle of the night. They were trapped, and I couldn't get there (2 hours away) fast enough. Thankfully, they were all okay. I hate tornado season!

I’ve counted 5 buildings left standing, not intact but 4 walls and a roof. Rolling Fork, Miss. is no more. Stunning how quickly and throughly lives can change. I hope the residents were able to find shelter.

I'm pushing 60 and where I live they've been warning us about the big earthquake that is going to hit and cause mass destruction, and it still doesn't scare me as much as tornadoes do and we rarely ever get them maybe one every 20 years or so. I can't imagine going through this.

During tornado “season” I like to observe the central plain states as well as what is referred to as Dixie alley or simply the south for possible activity that might potentially cause violent rotation but yesterday I was watching storm chasers live while this happened and it was a first for me. My heart sincerely is heavy with pain and empathy for ALL INDIVIDUALS who suffer from its massive devastation. My prayers are only for y’all at the moment and will be for a while. For those who are no longer with us I’m deeply saddened by this news as the number continues to mount. Death has played a very significant role in my adult life unfortunately as my identical twin brother literally passed away in my arms after a horrible accident. I’m scared permanently and know all to well what it feels like to no longer have significant individuals whom you rely on and love no longer here. For this reason I’m keeping all of those people on my mind and in my prayers to see all those effected begin to heal and continue on with life as it’s very important to keep busy and not to be consumed with loss as I let myself get. May you all find your peace internally and be blessed by our father in heaven so as to remain safe in his hands. Wishing all those people the best now and throughout the rest of life. Thank you

That was some really good drone work. Impressive. I wonder how old that town was. Seems to me that a lot of those houses were not that modern. Back in '73 we were house shopping and narrowed the choice down to 2. I preferred the one that my parents didn't purchase. In 1975 a tornado went through that subdivision. We went by the next day looking at storm damage. The houses on the left and right were fine - saw no real damage. The house we looked at was gone. And when I say gone there was nothing on the lot. No debris, no storm clutter... nothing. It looked like they had just poured the foundation and were getting ready to put a house up. Very terrifying and creepy. Feel bad for the dog at 17:15 - probalby wondering where is everyone and what happeend.

I went to help when Joplin had is horrific tornado that took out a 4 mile by 8 mile strip of town...trees were match sticks people sitting outside the property or what ever was left...My heart bleads for you. God cover you and keep you comforted in this time of distress.

My husband and I began a plan to get in our Jeep and come down to help. And then I thought of the animals buried and the pets and people we would find after a 12 hr drive there. I cry when a dog dies in a movie. I likely would be a mental emotional mess if I traveled there, no help to anyone. Now I have sent money and prayers and my heart breaks. I am so very sorry.

When you stand in the middle and are able to get a 360 view of destruction it is very traumatizing, a single image on the news one frame at a time or even on film doesn't even compare. And at the same time, it reduces everything to the cliche, "we are all one thing". The people helping each other at the tent city. People eating together, using the same fire pit, etc. children playing together, the unity it creates is equally incredible...Sad it takes tragedy to bring people closer. The Red Cross has it's hands full, it really acts as an information center which is much needed...but when you think about it. there is no one to help service, just get information. FEMA NEEDS to set up tents immediately, it's the closest people will have to have some normal. I remember the people whose jobs had been saved still had to go to work. As you know one building can be totally destroyed and the ones next to it not touched. It's rebuilding a town!...Just like what people are experiencing in Turkey and Syria. So much culture destroyed people once thriving one day are lost and shelterless the next...I felt guilty coming back home where my normal was restored immediately and only the images of people standing next the the rubble was left. We are left to pray and hope our prayers get answered. We do what we can...with open hearts we pray for the best outcome God can provide when we are all at a loss for words, but not compassion for our fellow human. Much love and gratitude for anyone's service from anywhere on the planet. Be Peace.

@@davebryant8050 Many storm chasers stopped and helped dig victims out, and shout out to people they knew to assist. Ryan Hall's channel were there last night aiding in rescue, and raised over $100,000 to give supplies and needs to people devastated by this. They will bring in supplies, equipment and aid until they have nothing left. His channel does this every time there are tornados, floods, fires, etc., EVERY TIME they can, and usually before emergency mgmt shows up. Sometimes these storm chasers are able to see the likely tornado and give warning BEFORE the emergency weather channels.

Thank you for taking the time to do this. Most people NEED to see what happens when tornadoes rip through areas. They have NO IDEA how devasting it is for entire cities and towns and their citizens who live there. THIS IS WHY you NEED to have basements if at all possible, OR a professional storm shelter that will withstand tornadoes even stronger than this one, while you're safely inside. Have plans....where to run to and take cover if you have time....and where to go and what to do if you DON'T have time to relocate. Simple plans can be the difference between life and death. You can't save your house or your car or your building...but you CAN save your family's life and your pets.
