@scottyhotty1003 There's a lot of stuff written about him and his "accidental" drowning. A couple of other must reads concerning Jones and the original Stones are TRUE ADVENTURES OF THE ROLLING STONES by Stanley Booth, and BRIAN JONES by Paul Trynka. The strongest theory is that he was killed by one of his staff - not intentionally - and that the police covered it up. The other Stones had absolutely nothing to do with it.

The live version of this song from Altamont Speedway is both brilliant and harrowing. You got the Hells Angels trying to be security, a zoned out druggie standing next to Mick as he sings, and ultimately someone getting killed at the end of the song.

@thomastimlin17248 ай бұрын
But at least the Tv show is authentic in showing what it was like....screaming girls, and the only technology they had some 57 years ago.. This sould be a studio pyabck for themn to sing to be cause I doubt you could hear naything clearly enough to hear what you are playing on the marimba or guitar. Decca put out a live album from about 1966 and it does not sound this good.
@davescurry698 ай бұрын
@thomastimlin1724 That's because that TV performance was the band miming to a backing track, which was a common occurrence back then. Only the vocals were live. And remember the genuine concerts at the time did not have the quality or size of the amplification or the PA systems that they would soon have. That's why The Beatles and Stones couldn't hear a thing they were playing back then. It wasn't until late 1966 and 1967 that acts like The Who, Cream and Hendrix beefed up the amplification to a much, much higher volume and standard.

The next day, I played my guitar in Open G. Angela, you have to listen to the studio version, and the 1981 - 1982 World Tour Version. I also believe Angela you probably didn't like the song cuz you're listening to the lyrics and I think it won male chauvinist Pig of the Year award because it's definitely derogatory saying about women she does what she's told down to me and under my thumb and squirm and dog and a lot of other references that the change has come she's under my thumb.

Great clip even if they're lip-synching it. When you're young and gorgeous you can get away with those "misogynistic" lyrics. Also Brian miming away on the marimba ( I see his break was cut out) reminds me how vital he was to the sound and experimental nature of the Stones during his time
@ptournas9 ай бұрын
No lip syncing here. It was May 26,1966 on the British TV show "Ready, Steady, Go". In April of 1965 the show moved to a larger studio and required all acts to play live. When the show first started, everyone lip synced, but even before the show moved to requiring live performances, there were more acts performing live than lip syncing.
@johnned48489 ай бұрын
@@ptournas so I think the singing was live to a prerecorded backing track which would be a common practice on RSG and later Top of the Pops. I don’t think Brian ever hauled out the marimba for any live performances.The live version was definitely more energetic and rougher as evidenced by this Paris ‘67 show kzfaq.info/get/bejne/o7pzoJOl08C3lKM.htmlsi=dqKZ1u-wmrmXR0XK

Not really the best recording of the song as it was the actual TV Show sound system from 1966. But the studio version is so much greater in the fulness of sound because it's properly mixed.
