Alter or Altar…?

I must ask, where did Jesus relieve us of the civil portion of the law. True, under American criminal law, we are limited to whate the state will tolerate (i.e., capital punishment, reparations and no prison, etc.). Nevertheless, that is merely a reflection of the fact that we are sojourners in enemy territory. If our body of law truly reflected Biblical command, stoning violators, indentured servitude as restitution, and so on should be the norm and not the exception. If I am wrong, then please elucidate as to why.

Civil laws if they are not immoral or contrary to God's law should be followed. However, the issues aren't always black and white; therefore, we need God's wisdom to pilot our way through the murky waters.

@Marla K God's moral law IS very clear and trumps any human laws and legal systems. If you aren't clear on God's Law, that's on you. The "issues" are very clear and straightforward for anyone who denies self, takes up the cross, and follows Christ.
