No it was to do with having 3 foreign player rule.

@@shoto1600 Are you kidding me? Who were those players? Kanchelskis is the only one who is not British in that line up. There is Romario, Jordi Cruyff, Koeman and Schtoikoff with Barcelona at least.

So, Giggs, Kanchelskis, Keane, Hughes and Irwin, make 5 non-English but satisfy the criteria…

@ninocanito - Cantona WAS suspended. It was carried from his behaviour the [previous season at Galatasary. Fergie went for Kanchelskis in the away leg becasue Lee Sharpe got an injury which more a less put him out for the season after the Barca home game.

You know Utd were sabotage by UEFA which decided you can only have 3 Foreigners in ya team but Utd did only have 3 foreigners the rest were Irish Welsh and Scottish and we don’t really count them as foreigners but UEFA did meaning in games like this the team that won the double had to play Giggs Hughes and Cantona but had to leave 5 of their winning team on the bench everytime they played in the CL ! Keane Irwin The Great Dane ! and AK were all sat at home couldn’t play now how many cups would Barcelona of won if they had to leave 4 of their best players out the team every week in Europe? They only brought in that rule because English teams were dominating for years in Europe winning 6 European cups in a row between 3 different clubs so they band us all because of Liverpool fans causing a riot hardly fair ! Then brought in a rule designed to handicap English teams in Europe but eventually that rule was thrown out but by then Utd had a new team of English guys and won the CL anyway

I remember this game because after getting a 2-2 draw at home with 5 of their best players on the bench Utd went to Spain had to leave Keane and Peter the great out the team along with Irwin the best left back in the world and they lost 4-0 with a reserve goalkeeper in the net

You ain’t gotta clue your just a kid in the 90’s you could only have 3 foreigners in ya team ! Utd had 9 ! So their whole team was taken apart yet still got a draw against Barcelona at old Trafford with 4 of their best players missing you kids weren’t even alive in the 90’s you didn’t even know about the ridiculous foreign player rule it was only brought in because English teams dominated for 6 years they won the European cup so you guys brought in cheat rules

Fact is that team was the best team in Europe at the time but if you can only have 3 foreigners in ya team then it’s not the same team no Keane no Great Dane no Irwin No Ukraine wonder kid it’s no wonder you won Utd had half their first team missing kids like you don’t know nothing if they had the 3 foreigners rules today Barcelona would have only 3 players on the pitch ya fool !

6 years in a row Irish Welsh and English and Scottish players played together and beat the crap out of Europe Liverpool Liverpool Nottingham Nottingham Liverpool Aston Villa Liverpool 6 European cups in a row between 3 teams !! We dominated Europe so you guys were the cry babies you came up with this you can only play 3 foreigners in ya team in Europe! And nobody in England count’s Welsh Scottish and Northern Irish people as foreign they are all part of GB that’s why GB kicks ya assay war and Football only way you could stop English teams was banning every English team for 6 years from all Europe competition and bringing in ya cheating only 3 foreigners rule ! Today Barcelona’s whole team is made of foreigners! What a joke
