From the movie Romeo and Juliet, Directed by Franco Zeffirelli. Released 1968 When this was released, I was a rocker and this music seemed stiff and "square". Now that I'm well into my 50's, I am stunned by it's shear beauty.

Anyone here in 2023? We watched this movie yesterday and i was in awe of how beautiful this song is. It’s so powerful, and emotional, and raw. It’s beautiful. I don’t usually like movies that are like this, but this was insanely good. The music, the lyrics, the singer... it’s all so beautiful.

There are other versions of Romeo & Juliet. This 1968 version is to me by far the best. You can feel the whirlwind of emotions portrayed by the characters; the excitement, the anger, the fear, the love, the conviction. The other films just don't have that by comparison.

I think her reaction is genuine! She is not a child, but a beautiful teenager! I experienced a similar event, although I was younger (16), like Juliet, and the woman, who is now my wife of 47 years, was my Juliet, and she was 17. Unless you have experienced this, you have no idea how intense this love is! It has survived, in our relationship, for a lifetime! Don’t condemn, Juliet!
@johnherlihy4739 Жыл бұрын
She is sweet and innocent! Your reaction shows your lack of sensitivity. I could say more, but I will refrain my comments. I saw this movie in 1969, when I was 15. I prayed for a Juliet….found my Juliet….and married my Juliet! We are now married for 47 years! You have a right to your opinion, but I have experienced this love personally!

@shell When I first saw the 1996 version as a kid, I was confused why the boy (Leonardo) was so much more beautiful than the girl (Claire Danes) lol. I think it's because Leonardo's features were very delicate while Claire has more mature and broader features so she appears older so I was confused why the girl looks older than the guy (as I kid I assumed the guy was the older one, which is typically true). I actually thought the same about Leonardo and Kate in Titanic. 😂

@@paulinaarteaga1720 I decided to check it because of people saying it's good. 5:58 in and I gave up. The movie itself is treated as a parody and tries to be fun in the dumbest ways. That's not what Romeo and Juliet is about. Ram and Leela: Love and Bullets is a better modern Romeo and Juliet adaptation. Why? Because it isn't treated as a parody of Shakespeare. I don't understand why Shakespeare should be boring and hard to understand when theater was meant for everyone including the illiterate majority, it is made in a way to be understood by everyone.

I am overjoyed every time I see this video! I am profoundly blessed! Not only did God grant me my prayer that I find my Juliet, I dated and married my Juliet and we are now married 47 years! I was 16 and she was 17, when we met, just like the 2 actors in this 1968 movie! And we dated at the end of 1970! My advice to parents is to don’t easily dismiss love at a young age! Everything was stacked against us! But we stayed together and thrived! To God be the glory! True love is love, whatever age!

To me it seems the whole story is told in this one. song. What is a youth impetuous fire. (Romeo and Juliet acting on impulse)What is a maid ice and desire.That might be their desire to be together but being kept apart?)A rose will bloom it then will fade so does a youth so does the fairest maid. (They die young) Comes a time when one sweet smile has it's season for awhile. Then loves in love with me. (They were in love with idea of love maybe)Death will come soon to hush us along. (They're going to die soon) Sweeter than honey and bitter as gull. (Though their love is great for them it causes problems for a bunch of other people)Cupid he rules us all. (They let love make the decisions that lead to their death). I don't know if this is right I could just be jumping to conclusions.
@wiktoria74857 жыл бұрын
I agree with both of you! I also love the scene they chose to put the song in because: it is played at their very first meeting, but he is actually "spoiling" their future on the background with that incredible song and that's genius! 🌼

What is a youth? Ask anyone who has lived. The attraction of Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet is that all of us can remember that moment in our young lives of that burning in your heart and soul for the first one you love. That First Taste of mad, crazy love never leaves you. Of all Shakespeare's plays, those filled with greed, cunning, avarice, hate and revenge there is nothing like remembering that first kiss akin to that shown above and the heart pounding excitement you feel of finally being alive and believing that this love was your purpose for living.

Well, the melody is indeed touching. Personally, tears come to me almost every time I hear the song. But considering lyrics I wouldn't say it's an anthem to love, quite the opposite. It's clearly a heads up to reality, reminding how ephemeral the beauty of youth and their passions are.

I bought the soundtrack album and listened to it over and over again. I'd rerun the movie in my head to the soundtrack. Nino Rota also scored The Godfather, and you can hear his signature in this very scene. At fifteen, I didn't appreciate the costuming, but oh my, just look at the details in their full glory. I love the use of the reds for the hot-heated Capulets, and the muted blues for the Montagues. I have this film on DVD and it is the only version I will watch. It was the first time that actors played the parts that were more in line with Shakespeare's characters ages. This film is a masterpiece of sight, sound, and acting.

Olivia Hussey’s acting is incredible when she sees his face for the first time … she really conveys just with her eyes how time has stopped for her …

Classic Movie and I absolutely love this song. This movie was introduced to me by my English teacher Mr. Calabrese in the 90s and it has stuck with me every since. I hope all is well with him. I appreciate him.💕

Cool. I have seen a lot of comments of people who said that they saw this film when Romeo and Juliet was in theaters with their boy friends when they were 14 or somewhere in their teenage years😊

"The rose will bloom Then it will fade, So does the fairest maid..." ...I remembered these words when heard that unearthly beautiful Olivia played Mother Teresa not so long ago...Yes, sadly nothing is forever in this life...even such a beauty :(

4:40 how captivating how the music reaches its peak, putting the viewer in a state of both excitement and fear. Heartbreakingly beautiful, watching the two seal their fate once they kiss.
