LEARN TO FLY | VFR CROSS COUNTRY NAVIGATION - Lesson #2 Marginal VFR | Student Pilot | Audio YWOL-YCRL-YGLB-YWOL
Today's navigation exercise will take me out west over the great dividing range to two new airports. The first leg we will be travelling direct to Crookwell (YCRL) - a small grass strip 66nm to the west of Wollongong. From here, we will then make the short trip to Goulburn (YGLB), before returning home back to Wollongong (YWOL).
The main challenge with this flight is the low cloud over the mountain range to the West. If it was solely my decision I wouldn't make the flight, but with the instructor in the right seat I'm feeling more confident and eager to learn about assessing marginal VFR weather and risk assessment.
Included below is a link to the weather brief, flight log and a map of the planned flight in case you want to follow along a little more closely:

Best part was the females yelling on excitement on the parachute jump. Great video, I am at nav stage of my training so it’s good to watch to refresh my memory.

Great job bud, like the way you film it all from start to finish.

Yep. After doing a two hour cross country nav. My landing was crap. I had to learn to take the c.c.nav chip out and put in the landing chip.

Thanks for sharing the videos... good luck with the future flights. I might plan to go to Wollongong from BK soon, only a 30 min flight but worth doing it.

I don't think the instructor was right there. It does matter if your track error was due to wind, or your flown heading precision..if it was due to wind other than forecast other headings/gs/et will need some revision during the flight - so it was right of you to ask that.

Loved this vid, that was an awesome trip. How did you get the moving map overlay? Did you use the same GPS data from your phone ?
@RomeoJulietWhiskey
@RomeoJulietWhiskey 7 жыл бұрын
Nathan Musson glad you liked the vid mate. Overlay was a little tricky. recorded the GPS track, imported that into ozrunwwys and took snapshots at important points of the flight.

Excellent work mate! I've flown in Cessna's, but what is the Jabiru like in your opinion? Subscribed
@RomeoJulietWhiskey
@RomeoJulietWhiskey 7 жыл бұрын
Never flown a Cessna but the Jabiru is awesome. Its tough, suitable for Australian conditions and gets the job done very economically - especially compared to a Cessna 152/172. It flies and handles nice but the flight yoke is a little clunky.

its a pipistrel i worked out but which type and how do you compare it to the jabiru in terms of refinement?
@RomeoJulietWhiskey
@RomeoJulietWhiskey 6 жыл бұрын
the alpha is like a sports car compared to the Jabiru. Faster, more comfortable, sit low and reclined, and needs the lightest of touch to maneuver the plane around.

@@RomeoJulietWhiskey I'm looking at the Pipistrel Virus SW or the new Sling High Wing if finances allow. Any opinions on either?

could u explain what the blue "A LL FL 180, C LL FL125 and the brown E LL 8500" means? I know FL probably means FLIGHT LEVEL but what is "A LL, C LL and E LL". I'm in the USA so was just wondering.
@RomeoJulietWhiskey
@RomeoJulietWhiskey 5 жыл бұрын
A, C and E are different classes of airspace. LL. Is lower limit.
@raider6511
@raider6511 5 жыл бұрын
so if ur in air space A LL FL 180, 18000 it is the lowest that u can fly in that area? So u have 2 CLASSES of AIR SPACE in the same area? What is the difference in the blue and brown?
@RomeoJulietWhiskey
@RomeoJulietWhiskey 5 жыл бұрын
@@raider6511That's right...blue and brown represent different airspace. Brown being class E
