Keep in mind that mindfulness doesn't have to mean meditation. It can be putting on quiet music and stretching, or drawing, or cooking, or painting, or journaling. The idea is that your mind is present on what you're doing. Don't stress yourself about the activities you don't like and try activities that you do like

today I had a cheese, tomato panini and tomatoes soup for dinner. it was intimating and i didnt want to eat it, but utterly worth it (my child self loved this dinner). I'm proud of you, and of anyone else who eats and lives as they deserves. I hope for the best for everyone who sees these videos because you deserve it :)

I was SO glad about the rain coming again in the UK after that heat wave! I'm in Scotland and was DYING so I can't imagine what England was like because you's had even higher temperatures! As usual you're absolutely smashing recovery and kicking anorexias butt, you're voice is so soothing as well I could watch and listen to you all day! 💗💗💗

Ro, I was super knackered every morning and struggled to get outta bed, but when I got on top of taking iron tablets it got waaaaay better. Would recommend checking your iron levels and take iron tablets.

Starting my first ed treatment program tomorrow and tbh I'm really fucking scared. Watching your videos and your recovery progress has been extremely motivational and has helped me realize I don't want to be ruled by this illness anymore. My snack while watching was extra crispy corn chips with salt and lime seasoning on them and a lime soda water. Watching this and having a quick snack before making chicken, white rice, and grilled veg for dinner with korean bbq sauce. Thanks for the share! Love joining you for meal times 🙂

Thank for the reminder to eat with you! I have been struggling with eating my snacks, and your reminder gave me the push I needed to go grap a snack. I made myself a cappuccino and took some Milka chocolate and almonds. That's a UGE step for me !! ❤️🫶🏻

I’m so glad you posted, I’ve been struggling lately. With digestive issues so it’s hard to continue to nourish my body. And, I had this gluten free pretzel bun thing, with choc spread, banana, and on the other side a egg. And my sister looked at me and said, “how r u healthy if you eat chocolate so much” I literally almost didn’t eat it. But I pushed through

Honestly it was so so lovely to see you feeling good, and relatively calm, especially at your parents and in the morning when it rained. The progress you’ve made is so inspiring and it just lifted my spirits to see you so smiley! But I have to say it was equally as inspiring to see you share how the day didn’t go so well, and to be honest about that. I know exactly what you mean about being frustrated that a “good day” was “ruined” by feeling worse again, it made me feel very seen and understood. Thank you for always being so honest about what it’s really like to have a mental illness, while still being such a safe space!! Big love xx

Hey Ro. Thank you once again for filming this video and including the reality of living with CPTSD I'm sorry the day started so well but ended in a way that was so traumatic for you. Well done for trying to go to IKEA on the bus despite already being dissociated. As opposed to meditation I sometimes find that having a special place within my home helpful. A designated room, corner, bean bag etc to go to where I feel safe. I also like to use a weighted blanket or weighted lap cushion (I have one that you can also wrap around your shoulders which feels like a hug and is quite soothing and grounding)I either listen to an audio book (usually something light-hearted, a favourite childhood book for example or watch a favourite Disney DVD ) also a hot bath can sometimes bring me out of it or the opposite of this and eating or drinking something ice cold. Jason Stephenson on KZfaq does some good guided meditations though if that's what you prefer to try. Also those sleep stories you can find on KZfaq. A walk outside in nature can help. Breathing in the fresh air and focusing on what is going on around you. Looking at flowers, listening to the birdsong, water (if near a stream/waterfall) or if in a more urban area, counting how many lampposts you can see, how many red cars, how many litter bins. ANYTHING to bring you back to the present and your surroundings. At least now you recognise the spaced out feelings as being dissociation which is a step forward. As you say, recovery isn't linear but keep going sweetie and keep challenging yourself. As with the anorexia, recovery from CPTSD will be easier some days than others but try not to cast judgement on it and compassionately accept that despite your best efforts, some days will just be a bit 💩 but that's ok. One day at a time. Think of how far you've come in so many ways and in so many areas of your life. You can and will overcome these hurdles. I have faith in you. Some different mindful practices that I like are (1) body scans! I liked the nighttime guided ones on headspace, but now I do them on my own. And (2) writing about my surroundings, just describing what I’m sensing and leading myself to simply notice. :)

as someone who also suffers with my mental health and has been challenging public transport lately (especially buses) I totally understand having a meltdown on the bus. anxiety is shit and makes us feel like the world is ending when it isn't, however, people around us don't understand because they're not feeling the same way which can make it 100x worse. i hope that made sense and i'm sorry that you also have to go through that

I was like you when I was 14-18 with CAMHS but I’ve started doing it again and obviously it’s not a cure all but it can really help. I prefer random mindfulness like when you go on a walk, I also do music mindfulness where you just completely focus on the music (instrumental music ) and also saying a positive mantra to yourself constantly until you feel completely calm, that one really clears my head

I think definitely try mindfulness again! Like you, whenever camhs/doctors/therapists would tell me to do mindfulness it didn’t work and it felt like it was just a cop out for them so it just made me angry. However, recently I’ve been doing various short meditations on Spotify (years later) and it really does work. It feels much better when it’s on your own terms! 💕 Ps I find 10 minutes a good length

As someone who spent a year in a residential DBT based therapeutic community, I definitely have several thoughts on mindfulness. I used to hate it too, I hate meditation, I hate sitting with my thoughts. But what I learnt is that mindfulness is about being in the present moment. And how that can be achieved is different for everyone. Sometimes it’s about doing the cleaning but being really aware of everything you are doing and seeing. Sometimes it’s about being in the moment in a sport or physical activity (for me it’s roller skating), sometimes it is about lying in the garden and looking at clouds. Sometimes it’s about doing one task and not multitasking. Basically it’s about being in the moment, not meditation!
