Dude you saved my life :-). The CCC in my E92 (2006) has the same layout. Before I did a try in the oven with around 150 °C without success, more than 20 °C outside forced the CCC into reboot loop again. Then I just followed your video. I used nearly the same SMD station and infrared thermometer but a different flux, all cheap stuff from Amazon. What can I say... after months and more than 30 °C outside in the last weeks... the CCC is still working perfectly. Great tutorial and video, thanks from Germany!

I felt i needed to let you know that i followed your instructions and it worked, my CCC radio is alive again, no more constant reboots. I am so pleased and great full that you taught me how to do this. I will remember your generosity for many years to come. Thank you I used... Soldering flux Liquid SMD/RMA No Clean RF800. Tilted the board and let the flux run through. Hot air paint stripping Heat Gun set to 400℃. Warmed the chip then up to 170℃. Infrared Thermometer Digital Temperature Gun. Constantly monitored the temp on the chip.

2023 . You are a legend. I just did a reflow today on the unit and it fixed my totally non-responsive navigation. I broke the fiber socket but nothing that cannot be "solvered" with some silicone heat gun. The temperature I used was ~ 400 degrees Celsius as lower values would not make the flex to "popcorn". Special care must be taken for the components near the uC. I hope this hold for a couple of years but I will come back with this information (hopefully not) ! Thank you again !

Mister, like others here I'd like to thank you for taking the time to make that video. Thank you The first attempt for me was not a success but the second attempt worked!!! Here's what I did : -I used the same flux that you used in the video, ordered on amazon. I believe it's a important point here to remember. -BEFORE heating the board up, I tilted it so I could see the flux entering on one side and coming out on the other. -150 degree C max, constantly monitored with a laser thermometer. - I cleaned the fiber optic the rubbing alcohol, the right connector had glue on it and I could see crap on the lens. The rest is exactly as described in the video ! Thanks again,

This actually works. I am a novice when it comes to electronics but I managed to get it working. I couldn't take the optical cables out so I just wrapped them in tin foil when heating the flux. Bought a $40 reflow station from ebay beats buying a used CCC unit which still needs to be recoded. becareful with the ribbon cable retaining clips I broke a few but it still works.

Nice to see Werner Herzog doing DYI tutorials. A week after spending good money on body work and a detail job to make it look brand new, my '06 iDrive screen went blank with the white flash every half minute. I can't tell you how excited I just got finding this video. While I've resurrected a dead MacBook Pro and LG TV by "baking" their logic boards in my oven, I don't have flux, a heat gun, your vice grip, or a contactless thermometer (I do have a hair dryer), to attempt this. What are your thoughts on placing the logic board on cardboard and baking it in the oven at 350F for about 10 minutes? Thank you in advanced!

Hi there, great video. I have a 2006 530i and the CCC tries to boot up, then the screen flickers white for 1 second, then goes black. It continues to do this without starting. The idrive control spins freely, and I’ve lost audible sounds from parking sensors. I’m going to try the fix, but I have a question. Can the fibre optic cable be the problem too? Can it be repaired? I’m in Canada and don’t know if any local stores sell the same flux you used, and also would like a recommendation on the heat gun type Thanks

Hello, thank you for having such a great video, I’m currently in process of repairing mine, and I noticed that from the 6 smaller chips, two closer to the centere of the board are missing (just two empty slots where they’re supposed to be), do you know the reason? Or if that’s normal?
@PSICompanyPerformance
@PSICompanyPerformance 3 жыл бұрын
Its normal because these radios are like a computer and even emergency vehicles have these radios with other fuctions. If you notice there is also a slot for a hard disk between the top and bottom part of the radio. I have seen one with all of that in there and it was an police e60... But i believe same high spec 7 series also had the hard disk in there, so you can storage data in the radio itself.

@@PSICompanyPerformance thank you for such quick reply, I’m amazed that I haven’t even finished cleaning off my flux by the time you’ve replied I’m glad that it supposed to be like that, did you reheat those six chips just because they were on the other side, and possibly separated when you were reheating the main processor? Because by your explanation on how the big processor is upside down is the reason why it separates when heated, then the chips on the other side would follow the same logic and not separate inside the vehicle, since gravity will hold them down? Also what are those 6 chips for, if you know? Sorry for all the questions, it’s my first time working with circuit boards and I’m very exited and want to know everything

Hello watching this video I have noticed that my board is slightly different from the one you are currently working on. I have an 07 335xi with the CCC unit but doesn't have the ram chip that you took off the board towards the start of the video and it doesnt have the chip that you first reflowed. Plus when you flip the board over to reflow the 6 chips on the back my isn't in that lay out. My car was one of the first ones off the floor in 07 so the BMW may have used a different one. Is there any way you could point me in the direction which ones to reflow? I'm boot looping with lines on the left hand side of the screen sometimes. So pretty sure reflowing will do the trick just need to know witch ones to reflow. Thanks, Justin, McGee
