Ronda Rousey was a pioneer for Women's MMA, the first ever Women's champ, a title that she would defend 6 times, a record that stands to this day. Along the way she would produce some of the fastest sumbmissions the UFC has ever seen. But her career would spiral out of control after the fans turned against her personality, in particular the way she refused to be humble after defeat. But is all the critism leveled at this UFC Champ fair? Lets take a closer look.
Thanks for waiting out on this one guys!

It really defines who a person actually is... I don't know any fighter, myself include (years ago - street and on mats / rings who has NEVER lost, or have had someone get the better of anyone on their rise in training and experience... Ronda is one of the most pathetic losers I've seen male or female.. I was absolutely disgusted by both Forrest and DC when they ran out of the ring after they got smashed.. Those two I DO respect for who they are outside of that.. I don't see redeeming qualities in Ronda.. Getting hated while not intentionally being a heel in pro wrestling.. That had to have stung far worse than Amanda treating her like a jello bag..

She humiliated herself not by losing but by not accepting the losses. We've all been there girl, we've all lost, we've all felt terrible about it. Pretending it didn't happen, going into hiding, and refusing to properly acknowledge and accept it just makes you look silly to the audience and allows the loss to continue to eat you alive... Well people were telling her she was the best ever. Joe rogan was saying she could beat up floyd mayweather and even small male mma fighters. She couldn't do either. World class egotist + over exaggerated skills = Delusional, sore loser Rhonda. As you poingantly stated, all she had to do was admit that better fighters beat her because they were more skilled, better prepared, and executed better. However, Rhonda clearly has a weak character, and could not look in the mirror and say, "Self, you're just not as good as you thought you were". She couldn't say it to herself, she sure as hell couldn't say it in a mass media interview.

@@ProtectionAgent I feel sorry for those of you who fall for the lie of religion. Please don’t be deceived! Ask God the show you the truth about the Bible and the teachings of the church. God loves you. I wasn’t worshipping money like you assumed. My comment was sort of snotty toward those who think she’s trash. You need to be careful when you judge others because it’s a huge possibility you’re misreading the context. I’ll close in saying this; The Bible warns us to be careful that we don’t become “So heavenly minded that we are no earthly good” When you jump out of the gate with an incorrect judgement, use an insult, and then claim the name of the lord, it just turns people off and then no one wants to hear what you’re saying. In that case, you actually hurt the lord by driving his children away by your behavior. If you’re going to rep Christianity, BE NICE! Don’t be the reason people turn away from God. You will be held responsible! This is no coincidence that we ran into each other here. I’m in constant contact with the lord, so I have no doubt whatsoever that he orchestrated this convo because he wanted me to tell you this stuff. If you’ve read this far, I thank you! Please please accept my honesty right now that I’m not in your face or trying to take you down a notch. I just feel a sense of panic when I see snotty comments that use religion (or my father God) to drive their point home. I care about you. So does god. I hope you don’t feel slapped or insulted in any way.

she's the product of her mother raising her alone. When Amanda punched her out of MMA, her mother said "let her have it, we're better than getting punched in the face for a paycheck". Now she goes to podcasts saying she was concussed and fighting with a torn ACL against Holly lol. Imagine that, she's the best female fighter ever, but fights injured and loses. Fine, it happens. First thing she would do, if the crap she's been saying was real, she would heal, train and ask for an immediate rematch with Holly, but she never did that, she didn't want any of that heat. Then she took a year off, came back and was destroyed, retired and now says "her mind wasn't there anymore". So annoying. No humility nor respect for much more accomplished fighters. Amanda lost to Peña on a fluke win, didn't say a thing, came back and dominated her completely to reclaim what's her. That's what a true champion do, not retire from the sport pretending that now you're too good for it as Ronda did.

It's a cold line, but like many lines and words, it doesn't match reality. We know Ronda's wins play over and over and over again in her head because they are the only distraction from her losses. Circulating them helps her maintain the illusion she is still "undefeated." The woman she said those words to would indeed have to think about her all the time if she didn't disappear from the sport in infamy, could never face her fans or the media after 2 losses, and isn't now being lampooned for a tell all where she blames everyone else. Many of the women she defeated would go on to have far more respectable careers in the sport, and can walk into a venue without fear of being booed. She's the one stuck on her glory days and afraid to even come to a UFC event.

@@exspiravit6920 TBF Ali came back - if anything his defeats elevated his triumphs even further. Ali is just beyond comparison to Rousey in so many ways. Even in terms of a life story, the people who truly despised him then, now look back on their hatred as a relic of an era because the man was willing to sacrifice to prove that he was more than shallow bravado. Put it this way, the man who challenged the American government and society came to be seen by America as one of THE truly great Americans. Rousey was just shallow bravado and there was no strength of character to help her recover from being brought down, and I think that is what folks are getting at. Had she possessed spiritual strength and moral courage to bolster her talent then that combination could have elevated her past the adversity she faced, either helping her be competitive again or just helped her cement her career accomplishments instead of blemishing them in a cloud of disgrace. What is crazy is how her example is perfect at explaining how important those factors are, and also, I should stress that what is meant by "spiritual" and "moral" is not referring necessarily to religious faith or any particular ethics but building yourself mentally into an in dominatable person ready to confront anything - including a loss, so that failure or losing DOES NOT defeat you. To borrow the definitions from the military; Spiritual fortitude is to make meaning of experiences and be resilient when faced with adversity to create inner strength. Moral courage is the willingness to stand firm on your values, principles, and convictions-even when threatened.

I did not know what the UFC was until Rhonda came along and then Connor. Loved her and followed her. After her first loss, I was stunned. Had no idea of her horrible attitude and excuses. When she took the year off, I thought it was stupid and I realized her arrogance and blaming crap. When she came back, I hated her attitude, but I wrote it off as her acting like she was not there to talk. She is there to commit murder. I heard bad things and wondered if she was really all there, but I hoped she was ready and would win back everything she lost. She got destroyed and I was a bit angry that she turned out to be a selfish unprepared a**hole. And I didn't even know the half of it until recently when all this shit came out. It is too bad. I wish her well and now everyone is trying to destroy her past and her legacy and that's not fair. She earned her belts, and she was great until it was over. And just because you have grown to dislike the person, doesn't mean she didn't earn her fame. Like her or not, she paved the way for every female after her. During her reign, she made the sport what it has become for woman. Without Rhonda, who knows if it would ever have become what it is today.

Early Women's MMA was seemingly all about just putting conventionally attractive women together to fight whenever possible. Misha probably was feeling a bit shown up, but it did show a lack of self-awareness about what was happening in the sport at the time (or maybe it was a subtle call out). It's fucked, but promotions seemed to sometimes treat female fighters like more glorified ring girls given the material that was released surrounding them.

I think too much gets made of fighters that Ronda previously beat that went on to become champions and her fans wear that as a feather in their cap. Ronda beat them when they were new to the UFC and they just weren't very good. A fighter has the right to improve. When Miesha Tate got beaten by Ronda, she was sloppy as hell, looked terrible in that fight, and was nothing like the fighter that beat Holly Holm for the bantamweight championship 3 years later. That's how it went for most of the fighters in that division. They trained, got good coaching, and got better while Ronda sat back and let it ride. When Ronda beat Tate in 2013, I remember Dana White talking some real trash about Miesha, saying that she's a has-been and needs to retire. He was actually right, it was her 3rd loss in 4 fights and she looked like total garbage in her loss to Ronda. To Miesha's credit, she went to work, trained harder, went on a 5-fight win streak, and capped it off by beating Holy Holm for the bantamweight championship. Now contrast Ronda's 1st loss. She did the exact opposite. She crumbled like an Oreo cookie and hid from the media in her house for a year. Talk is talk. Miesha turned it around and showed it in the ring. Ronda just gave up.

You have to love how onlookers judge real brave and determined people, while they themselves sit comfortably munching. Loss, when you sacrifice so much and you can't even reason why you did it. To have your ego and reputation bolstered, to betray your own sense to make yourself believe for the sake of survival that you can't be beaten... and then have the entire world see how that was a lie and that you played yourself... that's not just humbling. It's shattering. You can say you stand for morals, for a code. But all that can go out the window in a second when what matters is just survival. And you haven't been tested if you haven't really walked in the hero's shoes. Don't ask for it either, because you may not like how you see yourself when in their circumstances while under judgement.

Man, I forgot all she had was judo and the arm bar lol. I mean she had fame, which brought Dana money, but she had zero skills overall, no variety, and just fought a bunch of scrubs who couldn't defend the most basic submission. The second she fought anyone who knew some basics, it was over and she gave up instantly. This is what happens when you spend your time trying to be an influencer or model instead of a fighter.

To be fair it is really hard to deal with a black belt olympic judo person. If they get a hold of you it is really difficult to not get submitted. In Judo rules you have to get a submission fast or you are stood up. The speed of which they submit you isnt something you are used to training against.

For the first 31 minutes and 51 seconds I was just eagerly waiting for that infamous “she can try to kick me in the head, but it’s not gunna go like that!” line. Gotta love when a cocky, narcissistic, egomaniac of a fighter perfectly predicts their own downfall (or when they perfectly predict how they will defeat their opponent, except it happens to them, like we saw with bethe correida earlier).

@yuhyuhtheindigo7085 I dont like Ronda... but I feel like people take it too far. Athletes are supposed to be confident. She's far from the greatest wmma fighter but she still was an Olympic Medalist and defended the belt a couple times and was the most famous one of them all. She's pretty much the conor of wmma.

Something happened in 2013-2014 season. Prior to this her game plan remained the same game that she developed over decades of Olympic training: grab opponent, throw opponent on to the ground, submit opponent with joint lock. During the 2013-2014 season she migrated away from this approach to one that incorporated more distance play and striking. We may never know why the change happened but it did and this is the only real talking point here. Rousey had decades of one style of combat and it was abandoned to focus on another that only had perhaps a couple years. Hindsight is 20-20 but I'm surprised her corner didn't lean harder on her experience.

Ronda basically was the Hulk Hogan of UFC in that she exploded on to the scene and became a star and a house hold name quick. She had a booming career, tons of endorsements, was deeply beloved. Then almost over night through her own choices and words ruined her name and reputation and now tries to lie and say whatever she can to remain relevant though the industry has moved on. 😮

Cracked me up that Rhonda went to WWE and had an issue with doing jobs and losing matches by tapout. She was like "my mom would never forgive me", but your making millions of dollars doing it. She could never put her ego aside and it drove a wedge between her and WWE management and a majority of the talent. Brock got a pass by being in WWE first, showing his dominance in UFC, to then return to WWE as a marquee top star and the last boss for a wrestler to overcome to win the title. Rhonda is legit sure, but she fed into the lies her team told her to hype her up
