Look at Estelle on the right, how great she looks, how she moves, that gorgeous hair!! Estelle was never the same after the Ronettes broke up. She was quiet, but she loved the life...she loved dressing up, and she always read Vogue and Glamour for ideas for their dresses. When the Ronettes split up in late 1966 Estelle realized that the excitement went out of her life. She fought emotional and physical health issues the rest of her life...and for her to die in her apartment...it is so sad.

@@thedlmreview7631 the supremes were quite different. i LOVE the ronettes but in the supremes they were a very unique trio..mary wilson was gorgeous, florence was soulful and diana was cute and had a catchy voice..so thats why they were unique. ronnie spector had a strong voice and she was certainly one in a million.

No voice overs or slip syncing this is pure music at it's purest form, the acoustis are phenominal, why you can hear it when they are clapping. Phil did a great job in his productions with them, his genius & talent with productions, engineering, an his famous wall of sound is remarkable legacy. On the other hand his personal affairs were strange to say the least including his marriage to Veronica (Ronnie) Bennett. This song is timeless and shall be with us for years to come regardless of how it came forth I am truly grateful for it as many of you are. Peace 2 ya who remember to days of good music one could dance to or just listen, close your eyes, and enjoy.

It is so sad about Estelle...I think that she looked just beautiful in this video.. She always had the best, longest hair and could really do things with it! And she is trim in this video, although constantly fighting her weight. Estelle was the quietest Ronette and often seen reading Glamour and Vogue for fashion ideas. Nedra says that guys found Estelle super-sexy because she carried herself in a quiet but sophisticated way. To think about Estelle dying all alone is devastating to me.

Saw her at the Hoboken music festival - she still has it. This video is a classic acopella, just listen, you can even hear them clapping as Ronnie sings the echo Nedra is a Knockout. The Choreography is sensual at the 1:28 with the little "Shimmy" was a little enticing for that time period, but these city gals put it all together. Rare footage...Thank you for Posting.

You're right but since The Supremes were the Biggest Girl Group in the World at that time, it was hard for them to get newer hits. Another bad thing that they did was that they were the Queens of The "Baby" Songs. Be My Baby, Baby I Love You, You Baby etc. I have the Phil Spector Wall Of Sound Box Set and it's a Masterpiece. It's no wonder that Brian Wilson of The Beach Boys was obsessed by him and even The Producer of Abba was influenced by him as well.

Ronnie's voice here is the epitome of it's uniqueness! Her accent, her speech, and the way she pronounces her words! Aaagh! OAN: It's so strange how much I can hear Phil speaking through these lyrics. He had her sing what it was that he felt about her. The song is saying how he was hopelessly in love with her and didn't want to lose her.

A couple of years ago before she died, Estelle Bennett did a UK Documentary called "I'm In A Girl Group". They interviewed members from US Groups like Mary Wilson of The Supremes as well members of The Pussycat Dolls as the members of Sister Sledge. Most who were interviewed were from UK Groups like The Saturdays, The Nolan Sisters, Girls Aloud. The UK do some amazing documentaries.

Dear "oldflagship"... I hadn't thought about it, but you are quite right. Back in the day, the Ronettes moving like they did on "You Baby" probably had the censors giving a close look! The girls were hot, and that '60's eye make-up and teased hair still looks great. The girls knew how to sell themselves, that's for sure! And who could blame Phil Spector for having a crush on Ronnie?! (I personally fantasize about Nedra!) I sure wish there were more of the old Ronettes' videos around!
@sauquoit134567 жыл бұрын
On this day in 1965 {April 27th} the Ronettes featuring Veronica performed "Is This What I Get For Loving You?" on the NBC-TV weekly program 'Hullabaloo! {the above video is from this episode of the show}'.. Just under a month later on May 23rd the song entered Billboard's Hot Top 100 chart at position #88; the following week it moved to #79, and on it's third and fourth week on the chart it peaked at #75, then it fell off the Top 100... Between 1963 and 1966 the trio had eight Top 100 records; one made the Top 10, "Be My Baby", it peaked at #2* for 3 weeks in 1963... * The three weeks that "Be My Baby" was at #2, the #1 record for those three weeks was "Sugar Shack" by Jimmy Gilmer and the Fireballs...

I get a little sad watching this- this was their last chart song- I know "I Can Hear Music" got in at #100 but I think only Ronnie sings on that. This is the only one of the Phillies singles that's sad- on the others Ronnie is happily in love. In retrospect they're saying Goodbye.

I loved this song when it first came out and love it now. Ronnie doesn't always sound so well when doing a live performance without the studio to back her up, but here she does well. Note the song is a little different here than the record. It was such a downer that this release only reached number 75 on the charts...I think it should have been a major hit but the Ronettes were up against the "British Invasion" and also Motown by this time

The opening lines of this song knock me sideways me every time I hear them - "There's been a lot of talk around That you've been seen with a certain party" Ronnie is so hurt she can't even say her name - an by saying 'certain party' she shows she's full of contempt. Brilliant. And those shoulder shakes at the end .... wooo hoo, go girls !

In order to sing over Spector's wall of sound he needed a belter such as Darlene Love, Tina Turner and in this case Ronnie Spector. This performance was live and raw! I'm in my mid 20's and for some reason I'm captivated by the 60's. This performance is an example of why :-)

Ronnie s book had the subtitle HOW I SURVIVED MINI SKIRTS but here, at the end of their hit making era, the hemline was below the knee. I bought this record when it came out and WMCA radio in NY gave it some airplay. We didn t have the Internet in those days or an uncensored press. The truth about rock stars was hard to come by. Mercury records had a Jewish Lesbian, Lesley Gore, doing choir practise and singing about boys. I didn t know about the prison record of The Four Seasons until Jersey Boys. I don t blame Ronnie for going after Phil Spector although he was married. But the truth was not reported back then if it clashed with a goody goody bio. You would never hear the Beatles manager Brian Epstein was Gay and that John Lennon took a private vacation to Spain with him in order to put the group on the map. Today, maybe we have too much celeb gossip but in the 1960s images were built on lies
