Just a correction: On the second end it's not a type-B connector, but a type A receptacle. The type B is the square one you often find in printers and other large devices. Nice video regardless

Incorrect. Type A is the printer.

Wow this is very useful for stuff which has a super short cable and for beginners and also since you made the ground and the 5v+ with two wires together it's super strong and works perfectly, thank you so much my friend, and could you please make a video about almost the same thing but with the other end use a micro plug (exactly a great DIY USB charging cable) cause a lot of people tried and failed cause they only connected the ground and the 5v+ they didn't soldier the data +and- together during their work, and thank you anyways you don't have to do it but thank you both ways my friend I literally IN LOVE with such stuff anything electric or electronic so I love your channel you make anything looks so simple thanks man also i love your soldiering gun (it's not a gun shaped I know but...... 😂I don't know what its called, ironer or something like that i don't know however I love it) Aw and please please could you make an another video about how to make a DIY small ironer tip from a piece of copper wire or the best material you've worked with, cause most of soldiering guns or ironers comes with a big ceramic tips and they're not fit to work with mobile's boards and not the best, we want one which can work with complicated electronics and narrow soldiering spaces so yeah i will be super thankful if you make it and also thank you anyways & sorry for this long comment 😅

you know what's even better? scrap shielded pair!. you can attach the shield to the USB shell and this way you'll get lower interference. cheap USB cables usually have no shielding at all where a good ones have
@RonMattino
@RonMattino 11 ай бұрын
Exactly. You can use FTP instead of UTP and it'll work even better.

You can also use a dab of hot glue on the end of the type a (7:27) cable. When you want to remove it you can use a little bit of isopropyl alcohol. Great video!
@ibendiben
@ibendiben 2 ай бұрын
Yep, especially the other end seemed vulnerable to shorting after prolonged (ab)use. Thanks for the tip on removal haha, didn't know this before. It will come in damn handy in the future.

@@ibendiben yeah hot glue is near impossible to remove without isopropyl alcohol. It just gives up when it's drunk lol.

is there an advantage to use TWO twisted pairs for data? so that the data line will have bigger overall copper area and less voltage drop? im talking devices that are notoriously hard to connect with long leads for example webcam set to max datarate etc. thx for the video btw
@RonMattino
@RonMattino 17 күн бұрын
I think it's mostly about passing high frequency, not voltage drop. If you need an extra long line, you should use a cable with better shielding, e.g. FTP cat 6 cable.

@RonMattino I made something similar back in the day when iphone wasn't even out yet. I found that because of the long cord, the resistance went way up and it would charge slow as. :( Will this slow down data transfers or have much of an affect on new phones?
@RonMattino
@RonMattino 11 ай бұрын
Not really. If it can detect the USB device, it will work as it should. If device is not detected, it won't work at all. There isn't a 3rd option here. Did you use twisted pair in your cable that you mention?

Can this method be used to connect a xbox one/ps4 controller in a 15m run from said xbox one/ps4 to another room?. Ive ran a 15m hdmi run in the same direction for satellite tv. Thought why not try using my roll of ethernet creating a usb run to control my Xbox or ps4 connected to that HDMI run. Thanks
@RonMattino

For 15m I would use CAT6 FTP cable.

If you do as you do, using USB 3.0 will be more reasonable because you only need to solder 8 pins to connect 3.0 (remove the GND_DRAIN pin). Of course it is backward compatible with 2.0

How about a usb speed test. Can this be done with USB 3.0, or does that require more wires?
@RonMattino
@RonMattino 11 ай бұрын
Yes, USB 3.0 has more wires, actually two more twisted pairs. But 90% devices today still use the 2.0 standard.

USB and Ethernet share the same twisted cable transmission standard because USB can tether hotspot data using the Ethernet protocol.
@RonMattino

All I can say, so far it won't work for USB3, unless you want to use the Type-C connection for USB2.0.

Isn't it bad to use twisted pairs for current? Won't it act as a coil and consume energy?
@RonMattino
@RonMattino 4 ай бұрын
It's DC, so it won't act as a coil.

I purchased a USB extender set of adapters (which turn male USB into RJ45 interface so I can use up to 150ft of cat5/6/7 cable and on the other end rj45 interface back to USB female) which didn't work at all for me. Doing what you've shown here worked PERFECTLY!!!!!!! I''m thanking Father GOD and His Father, Jesus Christ for your excellent solution of a video!!!!!! Thank you so much!!!!! There is a video screen which I have to center content on and it was extremely difficult but this allows me to walk outside with a keyboard and your usb extender cable and easily center the content from there... a shame I don't know of a way to do this so the screen stays permanently where I put it but I've yet to find software that allows for this...
