If you don't have a usb lan adapter you can easily turn an android smartphone into a WiFi access point. And then turn a WiFi router (or AP) into a WiFi repeater. Also there's a double band routers manufactured by Mikrotik where you can for example make 2.4GHz w-lan as uplink and 5GHz w-lan as WiFi AP. As a bonus it's possible to correct TTL there if 4G provider forbids using smartphone for sharing Internet.

Thanks for adding actual captions for the Deaf - this is a helpful video as sometimes out internet connection will drop and if a phone is connected to router it makes it easier to quickly get a back up connection online.

Thanks for the tip, I did it and it worked. But I needed the connection to be active 24 hours a day and I tested using a USB hub with a power supply to keep the phone always charged, but it happens that the cell phone's internet connection is immediately interrupted as soon as the cell phone is powered by an external source. The usb to rj45 adapter only receives data from the phone when the phone is directly feeding this adapter and the cell phone necessarily needs to be downloading to the adapter or it never works. The Redmi Note 9 cell phone has a button that activates the RJ45 type adapter and is not the USB Tethering function itself. If the phone is connected to the computer it will always remain charged and the USB Tethering function works, but this way the USB to RJ 45 adapter is not recognized by the cell phone and the modem does not receive data (the adapter is connected to a USB hub next to the telephone)

I actually use USB tethering 4G connection on PC, internet tethering will be good for hotspot extension instead

Isn't there a limit on hotpot? Verizon limits to only 20GB Tethering.

I believe iPhone does not support this function. I tested it via lightning to RJ45 adapter and it did not work. Good news is that I can connect my iPhone to my ASUS router via USB port and it works.

What version of phone did you work with? I have an cheap coolpad I bought a couple of years ago for $50 that runs Android, but I don't see the option in the settings you mentioned. And what version of the Android it is?

Do you have a solution for the battery drain during the tethering? I normally use tethering with my pc and it charges simulatenously while tethering with a usb connection.

I was looking at c to audio and came across split units that provide power to the phone through the the c port while using the audio adapter. I believe the same can be done with lightning. Don't know about pc, except mine does have a c port. Do routers have capability to use wifi from a phone?

Does this count as using my phone as hotspot or is using the actual mobile data. Reason being my data plan is unlimited at 10Mbps but my carrier restricts hotspot usage to 5GB.

The hotspot can be bypassed by using a hotshare connection with a repeater. Once you run out of data, of course.

Results will be terrible. Speed will go down way too much. Much better option buying 4g router. I know, been there, done that.

Can you briefly explain why? I've been using tethering directly to my pc and so far I haven't had any issues regarding speed. Even for gaming I'm having stable 40-50 ping latency. Is what you're saying related to the usb-ethernet cable conversion?
