That was Fusion Jazz in the 70s. Smooth Jazz did not come until the 80s.

I love Ronnie Laws music and especially the orig. Friends and Strangers back in the day I remember Ronnie made a remake of F &S that had a more 90s smooth jazz like feel like here in this video all the smooth jazz stations back then but for some reason I can't even find it even on KZfaq save for a 2 minute clip from The Weather Channel.
