Glad you are back. Getting up that driveway in an ice or snow storm is going to be a nightmare. They might not be able to get up that driveway.

They won't get up the driveway with a 2-wheel drive car for sure. Even an AWD car will have trouble. I know as about a 40-section of my own drive is this steep - a 25% grade - and my wife has not been able to make it up. I've never had an issue with my 4x4 Ford Super Duty truck. The key is to use a snow blower not a snow plow. Then in icy conditions, you just have to spread about 5 gallons of sand on that steep part and all is well, even for a 2-wheel-drive car.

I have conversations with people about why they are not putting ice/water shield all the way to the top of the roof,the response I have gotten is that it doesn't need to go all the way up because its only ment for ice dams ...Im at a loss why you wouldn't cover the whole of your roof with ice/shield. In my opinion totally worth doing the whole roof.

Because ice dams can happen ANYWHERE on a roof. I've had huge ones on my own roof where my snow rake can't reach to the ridge. Where the rake stops and exposed shingles that get well below freezing, the melting snow from above immediately starts to create a dam 18 feet up from the eave.

That's very nice of you to say. But understand I used to do a tiny amount of hazing with new helpers. When it was time for lunch, I'd just keep working. After 10 or 15 minutes the helper would say, "Are we stopping to eat lunch?" I'd look at her/him puzzled and reply, "Did you eat lunch yesterday?" The helper always answered, "Of course I did." "Well, lunch is just a recommendation. It's *recommended* that you eat lunch but not required." I'd then go back to work. The helper would have his mouth wide open with no response. After another two minutes that must have seemed like an eternity, I'd say, "Time to eat." :-)

are you going to start the live streams up come winter? or no
@askthebuilder
@askthebuilder Жыл бұрын
I've decided to shelf the live streams for now. I couldn't get any traction for the time invested. The most viewers on any stream was under 50. I used keyword-rich titles hoping to get lots of after-live traffic once the streams were curated on KZfaq. That traffic never materialized. I'd rather invest the time completing a few projects for my kids and finishing a few short books that I know will create long-term revenue. I think I need to recognize that my day in the sun happened years ago. :-)

If the tape on the seams were rolled with the Zip roller that imbeds a z on the tape. Also when the tape is rolled it wets the adhesive and creates a chemical bond that will not break. If you don’t roll the taped seams zip system warranty is void.
@askthebuilder
@askthebuilder Жыл бұрын
"...will not fail." Is that like the warranty given by the treated lumber industry in the 1970s that said you'd NEVER have rot? Or like the 30-year warranty on IKO asphalt shingles and they all went bad in 8 years? I suggest you dust off your high school physics book and re-read the part about expansion/contraction cycling. I'll end with this: Zip assumes that the sheathing is clean, dry, dust-free, etc. when you put the tape on. What percentage of the sheathing on jobs is in this state when the tape is applied? 5%, 10%, maybe 20%????
