Thumbs up - I’m not hating on your work . Yes I’m am a roofer I always like to do things right . That home owner will still get 30 years out of the shingle. There’s times I do want to give Custermer s a perfect job I always recommend take old Roof off and start fresh . One layer . But sometimes and most of the time they just don’t have the funds to do a rip off. If that’s the case cause I know I run into that a lot where Custermer cannot afford for me to do a rip off . My years on warranty on labor will be less . I won’t warranty a job if I don’t take it all off . I will but not for long . So when I re roof . I re paper entire Roof then go over it . Sometime I can’t even do that cause they don’t have a lot of money for the extra materials. Lol. So u did it looks good there’s no leaks and they happy you got paid clean up job sight that’s all that matters . No one know s the situation why you did it that way . People just want to study your nail placement . No one is on the roof watching any roofer . Every ones nail every roofer out there I’m sure every shingle nail placement is not perfect . Unless you gonna use a tape measure. For each shingle place the nail exactly where on the instructions of each bundles says to put the nail . 1inch 1-1/2 from the ends and 11-5/8 in . But who follows instructions. Nice job enjoys the vid.

Everybody siding with this " roofers " video speaking about building codes being different in different areas are obviously not educated journeyman in this trade , this installation will not be accepted for warranty from the manufacturer due to improper installation which does not vary from state to state , the ONLT interstate variances in install are nailing pattern for high wind areas , then the use of ice & water shield , everything else stays the same . #1 defect , starter shingle is 100% wrong , if using 3 tabs for starters the tabs are supposed to be trimmed off so the " tar line " of the starter shingle meets the drip line of the drip edge metal , that way the gutter edge shingle is secured at the leading edge by the tar strip , leaving the tabs on & flipping the shingle puts the tar line of the starter shingle away from the edge which leaves the 1st course of shingles unattached at the edge . #2 defect is again starter shingle , industry standard is that starter shingle be used around ALL PERIMITER EDGES , even the rake or gable edges need starter strips , the rake starter shingle is supposed to be installed the same as the drip starter shingle , all 3 tabs cut away & the tar line of the rake starter meeting up with the outer edge of the drip metal , the rake starter is to secure the rake edge of shingles to a continuous tar strip to avoid wind uplift , most shingle applicators skip the rake starter all together , because most don't even know it's needed but needed it is , the missing rake starter strip is the cause of most "blow offs " where home owners insurance will not pay for repairs . #3 possible defect , missing ice & water shield at perimeter , if this home gets snow on its roof then ice shield at gutter edge is a must for all snow zones , the lack of ice shield will allow water from ice dams to flow uphill , then into the homes outer wall , ice shield should be a minimum of 12 inches into the heated interior of the home , with the entire unheated exterior roof deck covered 100% , ice & water shield codes only apply in states where it snows regularly & are not open to exclusion , many shingle installers skip installing ice shield because it's material cost is over $50 a square for cheap material & will only leak with ice dams . The missing rake edge starter strip is mandatory nationwide , the improperly installed gutter edge starter strip is mandatory nationwide , it's bullshit that " shingle applicators " pull this kind of scrappy workmanship because it giver real ROOFERS a bad name , should this home owner apply for the manufacturer 20-30 yr warranty he'd find out his roof is not eligible for the manufacturer warranty because of faulty installation , and missing components , what I just wrote is not personal opinion , nor does it vary from state to state , I posted factual industry guidelines for nation wide installation in all climate zones

On a roof over consider NESTING the new second layer when going over the 3 tab.. Way better results all around its how certainteed and most manufactures suggest. itstead of flopping them anywhere you want, NESTING has every shingle of the roof over laying smooth with no voids in-between the two layers. look that shit up and do it. its faster too. butt the top of your new shingle to the bottom of the three tab. boom boom boom. its takes a lil bit of prep on the first three course. once you try it you'll see and never do it any other way. its better period. good luck.

Roofing not easy do it just about every week . Gives your body a beating. I love doing it . He's doing a good job I would had love to see on a re roof paper down over old shingles but depends on Custermer and how much they are looking to spend not always up to roofer we all know there's a right way and or we may need to leave certain step out . If if has to do costing extra and if Custer doesn't want to pay fo additional steps . Then they get what they pay for or labor warranty will be shorten as far as leaks . But yes for me to guarantee a perfect job 100 per I need to take entire old roof off down to plywood. But sometimes Custermer s cannot afford it . But if gonna do a re roof protect yourself out paper over old shingle s as of it was plywood same way drip edges if possible and ice shield in valley s .

This is one crazy video. I am not sure why he had not taken it off of here. There are so many negative comments. I agree that he skipped some nails, put some to close together and seemed to more concerned about speed. I drive public transit and it drives me up the wall when people brag about the big vehicles, forklifts, ect. they can drive. When I have watched them, they are fooling themselves. This seem like a guy that tells how fast he can lay them, yet without the correct professional abilities. I would not hire him at all.

I thought he did great, also the fact he had to hammer one nail in let's me know he didn't have air too high to avoid blow throughs. I will tell you what I know about re-roofing though. You're supposed to cut the second and first or just second row (I forget) off or else you're gonna have a noticeable hump on the bottom, also though not necessary we would yank the old drop edge off the sides and trim the old shingles to the facial, slap some new drip edge on then roof it. This makes it look torn off. A good re-roofing job should look like a one layer roof from the ground.

I love how everyone is a critic! The Roofing over another roof is okay it's what the customer pays for we are aloud 2 layers. the pitch is okay it is a 4 pitch, rubber is for a flat roof we are aloud to put shingles on a roof as little as a 2 pitch. the nail pattern is fine also.

+J Alvizo I just did a 300 sq ft section of my roof. I learned from reading the shingle manufacturer's instructions, the California roofing code and from watching hundreds of videos on KZfaq. Almost every KZfaq video has serious errors in it. Even this video is pretty bad. In general, roofers are pretty sloppy. This guy's nailing is sloppy. But if they get little wind up there, then it won't matter much. I laid laminate shingles just like this guy. It cost me $400 in parts and saved me about $1300 by not hiring roofers. I got two estimates. I ended up doing a much better job than any professionals, but it was hard work. I'm in my late 50's and tearing off a 50 year old tar and gravel roof by my lonesome self was hard work. Watching this guy makes me feel for his back and legs. He's in good shape to be able to be bent over for that long. It's hard work, and you have to do everything right, but it's not rocket science. Just understand how to do a valley properly and take your time to do it right. I'm very happy with the results I got. It was a challenge for me to do my own roof. There were so many things I had to learn and figure out, because almost every roofer has his own ways of doing things, and even the manufacturers have some bad ideas about how to install a roof. Especially when it comes to valleys. A 4 foot steel ruler was my most used tool. Use synthetic paper instead of felt. It's so much better than felt. Do not use 3 tabs. Use laminates. They are so much better than 3 tabs. A closed cut valley is $50 to $100 cheaper than an open cut valley. Be sure not to nail through the sheathing on the overhangs. The key to shingles not blowing off is not really the nails, but the glue. Wrap the paper over the edges over the roof and cover with drip edge. The sheathing is most vulnerable at the edges. Felt can't wrap over the edges. But paper synthetic paper can. It makes for far better protection. Never walk in the valleys or on the ridges. These are fragile parts of a roof. I primed and painted the sheathing around the edges of the roof because the sheathing was 50 years old. When the drip edge is off is a great time to repaint the fascia boards. Might as well do some of the sheathing as well! This area is just very vulnerable to water damage, so seal it all up as well as you can. Hand nail your nails. It's slow, but it's a far better method than a gun. I don't know. I didn't see my roof as just a chore. I saw it as a challenge. And the end result is extremely rewarding. I can't stop looking at my roof and marveling at what I was able to accomplish all on my own. It's beautiful and I feel confident that it's done well.

Not really, nails should be distributed throughout the shingle to ensure even grip. But since you're a savant on shingling I'm guessing you know that. Also, who the fuck brings a paper cutter to a roof? When a hook blade can be more effective without added weight. Not impressed

So many haters. Lol. Nice work bro! No doubt you've been roofing for some time. Not sure what all the nailing fuss is all about. Looks efficient and clean to me.

The Chef you’ve a 6 nail pattern in Florida to New York, he’s doing the old 5 nail pattern, nothing wrong with it, it’s not the new regulations. Especially on a re roof, especially one going directly over the old shingles, the granulated shingle won’t soak the new shingle down in the underlayment.

At 6:28 you can see crocked shingles. And the nailing is terrible. I guarantee a leak in a year

Throw the wrapper off the roof, lol. What ever you do, don't trim the tree so it's off the deck.

you wouldn't want your nail within 6 inches of the seam, so he leaves a space of 14 inches or so! I get what he is doing good style

This guy may be fast putting shingles down but he doesn't nail worth a damn. At best, only 3/4 of the shingle is getting nailed. That would void any warranty if the shingle manufacturer inspected the roof.

to the worker.....? would rather have your roof done profeshnal or just assuming that the shingles are strait. like leaving gaps in between a shingle. It not about doin it fast it about getting it done right Unless if you are good at it.

I just don't know what to say...except home owners beware of hacks calling themselves roofers. I personally can say after 10 years of roofing in the Midwest thru snow and sun. It's a hard job that very few people have the where for all to make a career. When I here a guy call himself a roofer it's because they put on a roof or 2. Dude ur not a roofer. Wake up everyday after a 12 hour day 6-7 days a week during the summer for a whole summer then maybe ur a shingler at best. It takes 3-5 years of consistent work with knowledge of chimney flashings, EPDM tie ins, fuck there's so much. Point is skilled labor isn't cheap and cheap labor isn't skilled. Just a reminder to anyone looking to get a roof installed.
